    in 2001 I bought a gerber Yari with kydex sheed and lately I passed it on to my son ,after seeing this knife I fell in love again it's an exact copy of the gerber but with a thicker spine and much tuffer. I find myself very compelled to by this beauty

    I know this video is a couple years old now, but first edge has these on sale currently for $180 Black on Black only, but you can pick serrated section or full straight.
    I already bought one, then found this video. Nice work, I'm even happier I bought a one piece Elmax.

      Do you know what the factory edge angels are? while mine came pretty sharp, I resharpened mine to 25° per side and it seemed like the factory edge was 30° per side.

  • @JunkyardFox

    just curious, howeasy or difficult is it to sharpen elmax steel back up?

    • @Wingman115
      @Wingman115  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It wasn't that bad.. I used my new Work Sharp bench model with the different sharpening diamond stones and it worked like a charm. Then just stropped it and it was good to go. The real test was on the 5050 and cutting the can with it.. The edge held up really well. On the FirstEdge facebook page they cut rebar with the 5050...

    To anyone that's planning to reprofile this edge to 15° on the Wicked Edge.... Good luck!!!😂
    If you have the 80 grit stones, it'll prob work better. I used 100 grit. 5 hours later, I was still sharpening trying to find my burr😩.. Alas, I reached my desired 17°'s, and I am happy that the hard work is done. I'm happy I sharpened this blade to its highest potential.
    Also like to say I researched this class of fixed blades for weeks. Ended up sending back the Benchmade Arvensis mostly bc I think ELMAX is prob a better choice over 154CM (imo).
    I'm very happy with this blade, I chose this 5150 over the other model bc it's like 5oz lighter. I really liked the "pointed" striking pummel, but didn't think the extra weight was worth it. This is the best blade for the money imo

    • @Wingman115

      ELMAX is tough...

  • @ryanc5681
    @ryanc5681 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't know how I feel about this knife. It has great quality materials and blade but the edge did not impress me, maybe it was the oak i dont know, depending on the price would be a big factor if I buy, Elmax is still so new to the knife world, I hear good things but it's so new and doesn't have enough experience yet, not sure. But great video. If the price is right I'll deff buy one just to add to collection

    Great review! I am thinking of purchasing either the 5050 or 5150, would love to have your input on which one is more suitable for a 175 cm/75 kg person. Or a comparison on which blade would be more suitable for what purpose would be great. Thanks!

    Good review, new fan of yours and really like this knife. I have a few questions for you if you don't mind answering them. I'm wondering what would be the best course of action for sharpening this knife on the go? Could you possibly refer me to a tool/stone that would be able to keep the 5150 sharp? I'd just seen someone use the top part of their car window to sharpen a weaker grade steel, wondering if something like that would work for this knife in particular. Thank you for the review, and keep it up

    • @johnkennedy9078
      @johnkennedy9078 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would get the smaller one bc it's roughly 25% lighter. The larger one has the spike pummel, which is nice imo. It's really up to too u if you would want the extra weight. You're lucky in that you are considering this blade bc it's possibly the best bang for your buck in this class of knife.
      There's so many other custom fixed blade knife makers out there (Spartan) that sell their knives for hundreds of dollars more WITH less quality of steel.

  • @ryanc5681
    @ryanc5681 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Just saw the price hahah 270! I can get bark river 1.50 with burl handles and cpm3v steel or any other 3 choices steel for that.... A lot of other options for that money. This knife may be worth that but I don't know it's steep to me. Great video tho👍 keep em coming

    Gideonstactical just reviewed which was very impressive. It comes with an awesome sheath and a great price point.
