The Smoke Jumper fixed blade was designed with the user in mind. By definition a Smoke Jumper is a wild land firefighter who parachutes into a remote area to combat wildfires. The 1/4" thick 1095 high carbon steel blade is perfect for splitting, batoning and prying if the job calls for it. The handle is black linen Micarta with extended pommel for lanyard attachment. The Smoke Jumper includes a Kydex sheath with rotating steel spring clip.

I love this knife, I've owned it at least 5 or 6 years now...tougher than nails literally. Prying, cutting, feathering and light chopping it's awesome.

I was so impressed with your information of this model by Tops blades.. In fact i had a model in mind but after watching you take this knife through it's paces , i bought one , it took 2 days from the supplier , first walk out into the forest where i live, i was so impressed with the Smoke Jumper , i have never had a knife in my hands that impressed me more on what it will do.. Or as laid out as well to a variety of different tasks... Wonderful tool... You did an excellent review... thanks

I just bought a smoke jumper a few weeks ago great knife but I coukdnt find many reviews of it online. thats why I waited so long to pull the trigger. glad to see the spotlight on an older design like this. great review
Yeah the knife I was referring has a similar top but centered, and I luv that.
Well I was thinking about the Prather war bowie. However after seeing this video on the tops smoke jumper. The smoke jumper is the one I'll be getting now!

I freaking love TOPS KNIVES. I wish they would ditch the nylon sheaths and blade billboarding, but these knife designs aren’t as far out as they look.
The guys at TOPS are masters at building ultra-efficient task specific tools.

I got one several years ago but I gave it to a friend's brother, a Ranger (air Borne) who was deploying to Iraq. On the occasional air mobile operation, a jump qualified knife would have been handy. He served three tours without a scratch. I want to back that guy in a crap game. All the way!

That scene where you pound the blade into a log and stand on the handle makes me cringe. But helped me decide. hahaha

Say Heah John, I like it so much and I compared this knife to my top favorites like my Rodent 7 Swamp Rat, my Sarge 7 (Busse Combat) , my Green American Flag AH-1 Mag Busse Combat, and my Steel Heart Ergo Busse Combat, my BK-7, 9 Ka-Bar my O. K. C Gene SP-51 and 54, my Fox Hiram Golok and my Bark River Golok, as you can see John, I regard it high for a 6 1/2" blade. Although because some of the knives are larger, Their prolly much better, But for a 6 1/2 "blade this looks like a winner. I would match it to my Mode Rodent 6 that I had thinned down from. 265" thickness to less than a 1/4" and I had the top gaurd taken off. Now it looks like a beefy Ratmandu on steroids. That's a high compliment, John.
I have yet to see anyone test the Apache knife from tops. would that be a review you would be interested in doing? Glad to see this knife finally reviewed!

That is one stout blade, a lot of power for a compact design.

Thanks for the great review! Have you removed the handle? I am interested to know if they have skeletonized the back of the blade or if it is intact like those of the Mission Team 21 and the Apache Dawn Rockies, where the metal is more or less removed only for the fasteners (screws, etc.). Nice blade! I really like TOPS knives, like the steel, love the Micarta and Kydex sheaths but I just don't like those spring clips. I wish TOPS would just put some holes in the sheath and leave it so I (or we) can attach whatever we want to use, I personally like MOLLE loks.

Great video as usual. I must have missed it last year. I'm not a fan of the steel clip either, but my thing is that I think it makes the knife stick out too far from the body. I would prefer a built in kydex loop, or something a bit more snug.

Nice blade man, love the video dude. I have not used a tops, the handles always look like they are square and not very comfortable over time. tho i have no clue, one day i'll get to play with one and check it out. Loved your story and the story behind the knife :)

hey John I am a long time subscriber to your channel I love the info the tests you do are to the point and shows what your getting when u buy that product.john I want a knife for survival outdoors camping and the two I am looking at is this one the tops smoke jumper and the tops outpost command I don't know if you have ever used the outpost command John but there both great looking knifes I was wanting your opinion for I pull the trigger on one thanks John much respect from prince Edward Island Canada.
Al thanks for the comment. I've held both blades and if I had to pick one for the list you gave it would be the Smoke Jumper. The reason is simple no false edge on the spine of the blade so if you baton with the knife the Smoke jumper is less likely to tear up the baton.
I don't know, with all the other hand tools and wood 'processing' tools on the fire line, and with pack weight being a big deal, carrying a large knife seems a bit pointless to me. Having said that, if you were to carry one, that would be a good one to have and it might be a good thing if you needed to extract yourself from a mangled fuselage. I think a built in emergency strap/cord cutter might be a good thing to go along with the theme.

154CM is a great steel but the price would be out of this world..
I dunno, John, I just got a Benchmade Arvensis 119 in it and it's around $170.00 So figure alittle more ? But it would be TiT's. ,, .

Hi John!. I'm going to be deployed to Mali really soon. What do you think about useing this Smoke Jumper as a tactical knife?. I think that my Tahoma is too big for that 😔

Say Heah John, If only it came with atleast a 1095 CroVan but withva Deferentially Tempered Cryo. or atleast a 154 CM, I know Top's is using the 154 CM I really like the knife, I really do But if it was in CroVan, I would even buy two. That's how much I like it. But for a Smike Jumper a low maintenance I think is what he would need.,,.

I love the design of this knife all but 2 things that make it a deal breaker. 1 the top edge looks like it would make it difficult to baton and #2 the gimping on the handle looks uncomfortable. I like the seax barong hybrid blade profile and the handle mines the stupid fucking gimping. Tops was really on to something with this knife and then failed trying to over do it.
Just make it into a dangler
