  • Skilfully gathered fabric gives many textiles an enchanting look. High quality accessories are needed to make the result look even and accurate. In this video tutorial you will learn about the BERNINA gathering foot no. 16 in both variations - narrow and wide. Using the BERNINA gathering foot no. 16 and your BERNINA sewing machine you can gather a variety of fabrics and even sew on a smooth backing fabric in the same process. Our video shows how easy it is and what a charming effect you can create using this creative accessory.
    The beginning of the video illustrates how you can ruffle individual layers of fabric using the no. 16 gathering foot and how you can regulate the tightness of the gather. A working example will then show you how two overlaid layers of fabric can be sewn, where the top is gathered and simultaneously sewn to the bottom layer.
    You can find other accessories to make your ideal designs on www.bernina.com - we look forward to your visit!

    Could this video be updated with a non-flat piece to join such as a full bodice that has seams and darts? I would like to know how to work those thicker areas through the slot. Thank you.

      Hi Mia, the height of the slot is not adjustable. If you have pieces with darts, these would cause problems. We therefore recommend that you use the ruffler instead, please see th-cam.com/video/UdFI84PL7x8/w-d-xo.html

    So… how do i know how dense my ruffles gonna be? If i do the string pulling method at least ive got control over that

      Hi troebelliewoep, thanks for your feedback. There is no hard and fast rule, because the result depends on many factors, including fabric and stitch length, but also how tightly the fabric is held back during sewing. Therefore, we recommend sewing a pattern first, perhaps 30 to 50 cm long. It's best to leave the part which you want to ruffle a bit longer because this will give you a bit of margin. When you get the hang of it, the gathering foot really is a great helper, especially when working with light fabrics. Of course, there's nothing to be said against the conventional, manual string-pulling approach! Please also note our video on the ruffler #86: th-cam.com/video/UdFI84PL7x8/w-d-xo.html

    can someone explain to me what is the difference between foot no. 16 and foot no. 17? what is meant by wide/narrow foot?

      @BerninaInternational  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dear Freidy, there is no foot no. 17. Foot 16 is offered in two versions - for machines with 5.5 mm stitch width and for machines with 9 mm stitch width.
