      @@chibiskyrc Hm almost looks like the stock battery pack has a dead battery cell actually so it's running like 6v instead of 7.2
      Do you have anything too measure the voltage with when it's removed from the charger too verify its not having a dead cell ?

    great and detailed review! How many times have they been used or how many batteries have been used in the car? Is it a good long term car? How about the stock electronics and gears? have you replaced anything? greetings friend

    I think I'd rather have the plastic spur gear just to have a sacrificial part in the driveline, otherwise these don't look like bad trucks. They definitely seem to handle better than a Stampede and 4wd means better off-roadability.

    just purchased my volcano epx and saw your video. thank you for the points you brought up regarding the bearings and the suspension issues. Will be inquiring as to which ones to get from Redcat or some other source? Unless you can specify. Redcat suggests these 10*15*4mm ball bearing (6pcs)?

    I just recommend this to a friend, I have a shredder. It is good for entry like I thought but the motor cuts out if you have any resistance is this by design so you don’t break the gears, or is something wrong this theirs? Like if I put it against the wall and hit full speed it pulsates.

    Just put an order for this truck as a gift for my son. Hope to get it by the end of the week. Being our first hobby car. Can anyone comment on the process of correcting the suspension issue as mentioned in the video? Tools needed how-to, tips etc.. would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

    • @chibiskyrc
      @chibiskyrc  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tools needed are a Phillips head screw driver, 7 mm socket wrench, and a 1.5 mm hex wrench. The car should come with the last two in the box.

      There a lot of parts available on Amazon for this truck. You can make the whole car aluminum, make it a drift car, rally car, buggy, whatever you want. It's only a matter of how deep your pockets are and how much time you have.

      I'd suggest the EPX pro due to actual wheel bearings (not bushings) and brushless motor and spur gear... We broke something on this every time we took it out and were not abusing it so.... plan on upgrading the plastic steering knuckles to aluminum and the axles&dogbones to stainless at the very least. Changing the suspension setup can result in less breakage of driveline parts, I have seen on other channels, but I am still waiting for parts after using this truck literally 2X

    • @chibiskyrc

    I have to ask someone who would be able to provide their experienced opinion. I would like to get an inexpensive RC truck/car. I have been looking at either the Redcat Volcano or Redcat Blackout EPX (both are around 150 bucks but the Blackout has a lower turn 550 motor) or one of the 2WD Traxxas vehicles that don't include batteries for a little bit more (Bandit, Rustler, Slash or Stampede). I have been looking moreso at the Stampede to run on grass. I have an older 7cell Venom with universal connectors hump pack NiMH from when I used to play with my old aquacraft rio 27 (I've been out of RC for a couple years) but Ive never gotten into RC trucks/cars (hobby grade). It just seems like they all have their faults and people recommend this mod or that mod or fix this or that before you use it. I just want something that I can bash around without worrying about replacements or mods after the first few runs. I don't think anyone wants to waste their money and end up just making something worse but trying to "fix" or "modify" something without the experience or knowledge of how things work and affect how one of these may operate.

    • @chibiskyrc
      @chibiskyrc  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you are looking to run in the grass, I would recommend the buggy version of the Volcano (Redcat Tornado/Exceed RC Sunfire). The 4WD will help you plow through grass and the buggy version won't have the suspension issues I mentioned in this video. The Blackout may also be a good car but I can't confidently make a recommendation on it since I don't have experience with it. The Stampede 2WD is definitely a good car too (even though I'm personally boycotting them). With the Stampede I would watch out for the motor, especially on grass. I've been through about 5 motors on mine and I even ran it on lower gearing.

    • @danszulc45
      @danszulc45 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chibiskyrc Thank you for your reply. I wonder if the buggy would be too low to the ground for grass and the Redcat Tornado is about 80 dollars more than the other options I listed in my initial comment. Any reason why the motors would burn out on the Traxxas 1/10s and is there a reason why you are boycotting them?

    • @chibiskyrc
      @chibiskyrc  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@danszulc45 The Titan 12T motors had a very common issue especially on the larger tire Stampede where it would burn out from overheating. This will especially be a problem if you are looking to drive primarily on grass. I am boycotting Traxxas because they were being toxic to the hobby with lawsuits, being very proprietary, and being very open about wanting the RC hobby to be a Traxxas hobby. I started with a Traxxas Stampede and they make some amazing models but I personally put the well-being of the industry overall first.

    • @chibiskyrc
      @chibiskyrc  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danszulc45 The Volcano will do well for your application it seems. Its low price and Redcat customer service is great. Especially with the brushed version, durability is great too. It will do great through grass and if you are going to jump it a lot, the video shows a very quick and easy adjustment to fix its only issue. No extra parts to get and improves it greatly.

      @@chibiskyrc Thank you for your input and advice on this. Btw will a 7 cell hump pack fit in the Volcano or would it take a 7 cell flat pack?
