Siouxsie HAS SOME GREAT vocalizations. Robert Smith did double duty for a bit being in both SIouxdie and the Banshees and the Cure. You should try Last Beat of My Heart, she is absolutely lovely, wonderful vocals.
@@Kamil-w7l John McGeoch was definitely on the studio version but not this performance. This is from Nocturne which was after McGeoch left the banshees and Robert Smith joined them for touring. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nocturne_(Siouxsie_and_the_Banshees_album)
She chose the introduction music deliberately -- a section of Stravinsky's "The Rite Of Spring" which when premiered in 1913 caused European audiences to riot at performances because they were so appalled at what they heard. God Bless Siouxsie!

Interesting that they kick off with The Rite Of Spring (which caused riots when first performed). I like it when present day musicians are aware of past 'alternative ' composers; my ears pricked up when P J Harvey was being interviewed on a tour bus while Bartok's wonderfully creepy Music for Strings, Percussion, and Celesta was playing in the background.

Siouxsie and the Banshees 4eva..!! Israel is a song for people who escaped the Nazis, living with the pain of the Holocaust and loss of families.. yet determined to make a new life, dreaming of their own land, their own freedom, hoping for a new start away from persecution, hopeful to build a new life in their own country.. it's a song for all people who have had their human rights violated.. ..and yet, the dream has become a nightmare, the oppressed have become the oppressors.. End Genocide. Free Palestine. 💀🔥
it never made any sense. germany did the crime they could've carved out a region as a safe haven, not kicked out people who lived there for generations having nothing to do with the holocaust. eastern europeans mostly who had no ties to the land kicking out the people who ironically probably more closely related to the original semitic tribes. zionism is a cult. has nothing to do with being jewish.
Siouxsie Sioux was fascinated by the middle east and at a time in the late 70s when that world was becoming very fractious. The song is about oppression and the strength of the Zionist movement. Look were we are today the world is still full hate. Matt the Siouxsie fan
For me I think the verse 1 and 3 sum it up, starting off With Little Orpahns in the snow, then later with vers 3 Waiting for a sign To turn blood into wine The sweet taste in your mouth Turned bitter in its glass. For me is was a signe of hope after the holcuast and what Isreal could have been, but it turned bitter.........I will leve it there before I get a warning
I've always really liked this song as one of my fave Siouxsie songs. I never knew it was titled "Israel"! I sort of have mixed feelings since I'm wondering what the actual meaning is. Is she a zionist?! Regardless it's a banger, and I love seeing the live performance with the godmother and godfather of goth playing together! (Siouxsie and Robert Smith of the Cure)

It’s fun watching a young black dude reacting to Siouxsie and the Banshees.

Thanks for reacting to The Banshees! 💯 What an interesting and influential band. Pioneers of both post-punk and early "goth: rock.".💙

Red and green reflects the scene
Of a long forgotten dream
There were princes and there were kings
Now hidden in disguise, cheap wrappings of lies
Keep your hearts alive with a song from inside
Even though we're all alone
We are never on our own when we're singing, singing
Home, home
There's a man who's looking in
And he smiles a toothless grin
Because he's singing, singing
See some people shine with glee
But their song is jealousy
Their hate is clanging, maddening
In Israel, will they sing Happy Noel

Must watch their "Spellbound" video too. They were a good postpunk Goth rock band. Also get into Xmal Deutschland, another band that is like them.

Yeah, it's like having a song entitled "Nazi Germany". Is it in support or protest?
@@craigroaring It's poetry. There's not necessarily only one correct interpretation.
@@timmiller1954 True, but sometimes the artist might actually have an opinion.
You should have Googled and read the lyrics afterwards, then gave your impressions of what the song was about.
