This is one of my favorite houses in this series. It is attractive, sits well in its site and is constructed with sterling materials. I am surprised by the Swedish window manufacturers, I thought they were more efficient than that, but the problem lay in the communication to them by the timber builders. They seemed to be the weak link in the chain. I thought the long and full consideration by Peter of his materials, sourcing and design was audible. Great job!
If I was going to build a "Grand Design" the last thing I would want is Kevin McGloom hovering around like a dark cloud trying his best to pump up cinematic interest. If there is a flaw in the design, schedule, or any detail he will harp on it until all of a sudden the job is done in spite of him and he has nothing to do but rave about the final result. When you binge watch it gets to be too much.
Everybody builds their own home in Holland?? No, that is very rare. Most new houses are part of a property development plan. In Belgium it is more common to build your own house.
@@TheVincent0268 Sorry, yes, it's the other way around. Metropolitan area the past 10 years has been the highest percentage, while countryside less so. However, this also has to do with simple numbers. Rural areas have lots of plots for sale where people build their own home, but cities have been building high rise buildings per governments request. So it might not digger that much. But all in all, highest number has been 38%off all builds, but generally it's around 20%.
I think the "everyone build their own home" is coming from the fact that in most places renting is less common and much more people own the building or flat they live in, compared to other countries.
Such a pity that people cannot work together..everyone looking at how God would want us to care about each other and work together ....but the World works on power and money
In Holland builds everyone his own home? hahahahaha. Guess you mistake us with Belgium. Holland is known for his awfull streets of massproduced buildings all the same.. everywhere.
Not true that many Dutchies build their own homes! Actually not many individual houses are being built in NL. Only big buildings... With more than 500 inhabitants per km square, big water surface...there is simply too little place!
I don’t know that I’d ever DO “Grand Designs” , I love watching all these different people create their homes but this HOST is soo negative + even just watching him go on + on pointing out problems, some before they happen so he can be “right” when they do... I might punch him in the nose! I don’t like him at all.
I love looking back at these older episodes. This episode is definitely an eye opener

It's great that we have come to realize since this aired originally that globally sourced is not very eco friendly.

It just depends on where you plan to live. Rural area, yes. Urban, rarely.
@@QnA22 On average in The Netherlands: no.

I don't agree with the idea that no one understood the needs of the window spec. That was a serious mistake.

This program is uot of date
We know
Out of date, or do you mean outdated? Out of date it can't be, buildings have a rather large lifespan.
It is not out of date. Actually, there is much to learn from an episode originally aired in 2005.
What is British?
Answer - Grand Designs, Top Gear, Comedy, Attenborough and Football
Mark my words, him being Dutch he’ll build a huge ugly fence around the property. The Dutch are known for their walls around the world 🤢
