I find it interesting that 2 university trained architects, who also teach this type of building, would have to redesign so much in order to complete their project. Especially considering straw building is popular in colder climes of Europe and has been for many years

After 3 weeks thankfully it was time to return to the US. I cannot imagine building a home next to tracks like this.

I think its nice to have imagination and try new ideas, theory is one thing, practice is something else. They sometimes behaved like teenagers, I think they should have had a responsible adult watching over them.
I think I'll build an experimental house. The floors will be dried dung. The roof will be cotton candy with toothpicks. And I'll build the walls out of little round marbles picked up at thrift shops. I'll pull the wiring out of old slot cars. Any ideas for plumbing?

In my experience, as a builder, the architects that I've had contact with were arsetects! They're great at drawing pretty pictures, and ''making statements'' but dont have a f'ing clue about building. One had designed FOUR steel columns (instead of rsj's) with a total weight of one and a half TONNES, for a roof extension. (The loading on the Victorian brickwork would have been impossible.) Two were in the apex of the roof, doing NOTHING! I deleted all of them, replaced with just one RSJ, weighing about 100 Kg. and did the calculations to keep the building inspector happy. There were more, many more.

I used to know 2 architects, husband and wife. They both became teachers at a university. They told me is was too hard to practice as an architects. I found out, that all the teachers in this big faculty only one was practicing. So now we have architects teaching students how to be architects that have never been practicing architects. That is why, it becomes apparent that this couple have no idea what there doing. You summed it up. I have a feeling after this they went right back to teaching and lecturing around the world to bright eyed and bushy tailed students.
They were experimenting with their own money, not building something for a client. I think it's one of the ugliest houses I've seen on this kind of shows, but I get that it's just them playing and testing boundaries. It's not meant to be practical, it's the architectural equivalent of the weird clothes you can see on a high fashion runway
02/07/21 - Only hearing audio on the left. (headphones) Tested other videos from the series, and from other sources and works fine. This issue caused me to read down through some other comments. Seeing one that reads the house is NOT finished by the end has caused me to just abandon this episode. Wasted time to me, to not see a finished product.
Kevin is too kind with his evaluation. I would not hire these two to build a dog house. No plan, new age crap, no budget, and to think they design for others is scary. Why do all the construction workers do it all by hand? Must be union stuff. I haven't seen this many hand saws since 1950.

Way too new age to be practical, but looks good in the academic world where theory is much more important than function or practicality.
