    I held off getting a pocket pen until recently, but finally gave in and got a Kaweco Sport. I love the "transformer" element, of something you carry easily in your pocket but magically changes into a comfortable writer.
    Pelikan 4001 Royal Blue is one of my favourite and most used inks - I've always got it in at least one pen.

    Glowing praise for this pen! I have one coming shortly and I am excited! (I went copper.) This pen looks like it might supplant my DeLike as my EDC pocket pen. 🙂 I am looking forward to your review of his delrin pen. Side note: My Pilot Petit 1 is one of the few pens I own that always writes immediately every time I open it. It's inexpensive too!

    I got a real gravitas pocket pen a month ago. I love it, writes smoothly, well made. I had trouble getting the cap to stay posted so I keep a wee little piece of scotch tape on the barrel and it never slips off now. I am going to start saving for another one!

    A splendid pocket pen. Particularly for the smaller pockets on my clergy shirts. Even with no clip, I could dig it out without too much loss of dignitas and gravitas. ... It occurs to me that the dispensing end of cartridges are generally of the same material as that of cartridge-converters; so the converters aren't all that much better, except that one hopes that they take a lot longer to get to the landfill. But, as a young person in the 1980s, I used a syringe and cartridges for bottled ink, and was thrilled to discover, in the '90s, that one could source cartridge-converters that didn't come with a pen. ... Still, if I had a Pilot E95s (Burgundy), it would be my favorite pocket EDC (to work, not on camping trips). As it is, that honor goes to my Skrikss 419. Looks good in a black shirt, too! 😉

    Think this’ll be my first big pen purchase. Flex nib is a major selling point for me. If a fude nib or copper option ever becomes available, I would melt in happiness. After shipping and currency conversion, it’ll be $92. I really wanted a copper Kaweco Liliput but it’s too small to fit a converter cartridge.

    Keeping a fountain pen pointing down so the ink is always at the nib keeps the pen working longer. A flat ended cap would make this easy to do - more practical. Pens that sit on my desk have a drop of water in the cap, this prevents them from drying out, I have a few fountain pens in my study and I pick and choose which one to use as my fancy takes me. They are all kept vertical, not laying down.

    I really was impressed with the design of Gravitas pens and the fact that they were available in solid copper caused me to order one almost immediately. However that being said, I never got the pleasure of owning one.
    I had a terrible experience with Ben in attempting to obtain a copper Gravitas Sentry from him. The "wrong" pen arrived in good time.
    I contacted Ben and he blamed the error on a technology glitch in the fulfillment process and it was agreed that I would mail the incorrect pen back and in compensation he would include an extra nib with my order. Immediately I placed the pen in the mail an sent an email to Ben containing an image of the postage receipt with all pertinent tracking info. I informed him by email as soon as the package arrived in Dublin. When it did not move from there I contacted Ben advising him that he should check on it. Over the next weeks I sent repeated communications suggesting that he check with the postal authorities about the status of the package.
    Since I assumed that the correct replacement pen with the additional nib would have been dispatched shortly after I had sent confirmation of my return; I was elated when after not having any communication with Ben for some time, a familiar package arrived to my mailbox. Immediately as I held it in my hand I realized it was the same package I had mailed weeks earlier having made a complete round trip.
    I paid another $17.50 to return it "again", with the assurance that the pen I ordered was on it's way, repeating all of the above ending again in Dublin, and after months waiting for what I had hoped would end in a satisfying writing experience and possibly my pen-of-the-year; in reality ended up being the return of the price I paid, less the $35 in return postal fees and a remark from Ben about the difficulty in dealing with The U S Postal Service (which by the way got the package from overseas to my box twice)and that I could have saved us both a lot of trouble if I had let him know at the outset that I just wanted my money back.
    No, Ben, at the outset I wanted the correct item I ordered; only after months of hassle and expense with no gratification did I request a refund.
    All messages and emails confirming that the above is accurate are on file.

    Unfortunately, the lack of a clip is a real deal breaker for me. I carry my pens in my shirt pocket. My pants pockets are already too full of "stuff" to add something else. Apart from that, I think the pen looks great! I think it would feel great in the hand, being a solid metal pen that has some heft to it. But with so many pens out there to choose from, this one just comes in pretty far down on my want list.
    Still a great review though!

    • @gregs.2679

      This bothers me too, not because I would clip such a short and heavy pen to a shirt pocket that's deeper than the closed pen is long, which would make the pocket and possibly the whole shirt sag, but because clips help prevent your pen from rolling onto the floor. Fortunately, aftermarket clips are available in all sorts of sizes. Early fountain pens tended not to have clips regardless of size, and Penkala, the famous Croatian writing instrument company founded by Slavoljub Penkala, actually sold more aftermarket clips for other manufacturers' pens than their own pens and pencils.

      That’s understandable. It’s interesting to see how many different ways we all use our pens and require/prefer different things of them. Like I can get why you need a clip, and why so many adore pocket pens in general, whereas I can care less for clips and pocket pens in general, and I prefer to take my gaudiest pens along so that they attract attention and generate some more fountain pen enthusiasm. I carry them in a purse that already weighs 50 pounds so it’s not like I’ll notice a bulky pen in there lol. Im just watching because im a channel fan, and really wanting a gravitas pen of some kind because I hear they’re great.
      For me, the main attraction of this model is that unsheathing noise lol. Pens with sound effects should be a hot pen trend in 2023-at least that’s my dream. 😁

    I am surprised you didn't mention the natural patina of brass. This pen will look different quickly, and its cap and barrel with look different, too, as time passes and sections are handled. It was visible even in your review. Not saying that is a bad thing, but it is a significant aesthetic aspect.

    The metal-on-metal sound you associate with swords being drawn from their sheaths is a Hollywood invention. Historically, a sheath would be made from leather, wood or other soft material that would not damage the edge. Metal sheaths exist but they're inadvertently lined with something soft.

    I was curious whether the section is made of the same brass as the rest of the pen, or aluminum, or something else. Aluminum would probably be easier to get the black powder coating to stick to, but one way Ben could make the section even better would be to make it of a metal that's already black like tungsten carbide (if that isn't what he's already using) so there's no possibility of a powder coating eventually wearing away. I read somewhere that adding a little bit of nickel to tungsten carbide alloys makes them very oxidation resistant, so these would be interesting materials for a company that seems to be hooked on making continual improvements to experiment with.

    My pocket pen is a Traveler's Brass. But I'll have to check out the Gravitas, just because of the extra girth. But is extra girth a good thing in a pocket pen?

    • @JG3Reviews
      @JG3Reviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that depends on the user. I give extra points to a pocket pen that forgets it's a pocket pen once posted and writing. To me, that makes it a more versatile pen because it can be more useful in longer writing. Just depends on preferences and uses.

    "Raw" brass? Didn't know boiled or baked brass was a thing...🤣
    As for the pen, love the material. But I am not enthusiastic about "pocket" pens in general. A regular size pen is small enough to carry, no need for miniaturisation imo. Don't find such tiny pens comfortable.

    • @JG3Reviews
      @JG3Reviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      😆 This one isn't tiny when posted, that's part of it's advantage. Raw refers to unfinished, without any coating so that it develops a natural patina.

      @@JG3Reviews stil a weird choice of term for a metal.
      Anyway, pocket pen size is of course a matter of taste/preference. Don't like their tinyness never will, even when they get a bit longer when posted. To me there are only disadvantages. Easier to lose, holds less ink or smaller type cartridges, don't care for thelooks .
      As I said for me a regualar size is more than small enough to carry, so I'll never get me a pocket size one.
