Well he did say that there were work arounds to possibly make the game somewhat enjoyable. But even then he said that your pretty much better off playing any other X game
God who else remembers growing up with this dude. Man it’s been a long journey I remember watching this video over and over again when I was a kid. Man how times have changed.
Yep, long hours of procrastinating on my homework in middle school and highschool were spent watching John and Clement. Crazy to think now I'm done with college and here I am still watching his stuff lol
Wow, my Dad did the EXACT SAME to me in 1996, he traded in all of my SNES games and the SNES itself to get me the PS1- without telling me. Its insane how we both had the exact same parental experience, lol. I have so many memories with this system, I was only 6 years old when I got it, for the next Christmas, my uncle bought me Resident Evil, the original. Wow man, that game gave me nightmares, it scared the shit out of my 6-7 year old brain, I'd never been this scared in my life but regardless, I just kept on playing, I continued to torture myself due to intrigue, and thus, my life long obsession with everything horror was born. This is just one memory, its crazy looking back, thinking how much the PS1 molded me into the person I am today... wow.
I see my favorite TH-camrs (including you) just about everywhere I go. I guess I have good taste in channels. But yeah, PS1 just has too many good classics (FF IX is the stuff).
All the people I'm subscribed to are subscribed to other people I'm subscribed to. Or, you know, could have just come in and watch the latest vid, happens sometimes.
The juxtaposition between that shot and all the other ones stunned me. When you said "I know what you're thinking", I thought you were gonna bring that up, not ANYTHING about Crash. In fact, I didn't even notice the PC background-change.
Kinda like how the Nostalgia Critic begged his mom to take him to go watch The Garbage Pail Kids movie when it released in 1987 but his mom wouldn't yield. He's grateful (and thankful) that his mom never took him to see it.
***** that's ok the ps2 sound used to scare me...than i loved cit almost as much as the ps1's sound, sadly the ps3 doesn't make a cool sound like the other two :(
Crash series , Spyro series, Tomba 2 and Front Mission 3. That was my childhood on ps1. As even if I had more games, those were my personal favourites.
Personally I think Johnny needs more videos like this. Instead of focusing on one game and describing every detail , he should focus on several games and just say his thoughts.
Idk why, but this may be my favorite somecallmejohnny video. Not because it's the funniest, but because for some reason it just makes me feel this sort of magical feeling, not nostalgia since I didn't grow up with it, I can't quite explain it. Anyone else feel this way?
This video brought back so many memories! No girl problems, no money problems just playing awesome games with my friends on my PS1! I miss those days....sigh..
Crash, Spyro, and Tekken 3 were my main Playstation 1 games back in the day, that and Final Fantasy 9 which I still own the discs to but yay PSN release.
I was finally able to experience IX thanks to getting a physical copy at an anime convention. Though I still need to find time to play it, and try and connect my PS2 to my tv...even though it will make it look more pixelated.
SomecallmeJohnny I felt the same way, it was kinda like a stab. Crazy how we can get so invested in something we like that when others say things like that it feels so personal. I only wish I could change your mind so you could play the second one and see what all the fuss is about.
The PS1 was my very first console. The intro is just nostalgia to my ears. While I didn't own most of the popular games on the system like Crash Bandicoot, Symphony of the Nights, Final Fantasy VII, and Spyro the Dragon, I still had a blast with the years I owned it. Sadly it didn't last very long, and it's long dead by this point, but it's oh so nostalgic.
Still the best playstation review on youtube. I never get tired of watching it. I would love more Johnny Vs videos like this, dedicated to a specific console, it’s games and his memories of playing them
I find it funny how when he said he had a copy of Chrono Cross that he never played I was like WHAT THE FUCK?! right before the angry sound effects came on lol
A lot of games in my early days as a gamer were rentals. I mean it's sad and all but damn the SNES and PS1 had some of the best games ever, with the PS2 imo somehow managing to outdo both. Johnny you just made my day. 'in the hunt' is a game I remember playing when I was younger but I thought it was super Nintendo so I wasn't sure if I imagined it or not. I need to find it online, for a decent price now. Thank you!!!
Playstation was the best thing back in the good old days...Johnny you forgot about Resident Evil...or do you have plans for that? FF7 was the first RPG for me but FF9 is my all time favorite..plus thank to my dad I got my hands on some other RPGS like " wild arms" " Beyond the Beyond" I was hook to those games.
Fantastic video, Johnny! I would love it if you did more console reviews like this! Like the SNES, Sega Genesis, Dreamcast, and maybe even some of the more modern systems! Keep it up!
This is an amazing video, even to those without nostalgia. But I love watching these types of video to see what the hype was about, and the good games to get. In my country the N64 was much more popular that I didn´t even knew PS1 existed(everyone owned a N64). Even though I was not exposed to RPGs super young until pokemon, I love them know and enjoy the trip through time. It is similar to how Johnny experienced the N64 later in its life, except mine was much later for me.
It really saddens me to hear that you didn't enjoy Abe's Oddysey. I'd say it's one of the very best games on the console and one of the best games ever, along with its sequel. I will say, watching this reminds me of a lot of very good games that I'd forgotten about. I loved Vigilante 8 but could never get into Twisted Metal. I'd say the PS 1 is probably the best games console ever. Mostly because it just focused purely on the games.
I remember playing the hell out of Motor Toon back in the day and to be fair, the "less cartoony" bonus version of it, which you unlock by finishing the championship in 1st place on expert mode, looked pretty impressive for its time. The tank mini game as well as battleships were fun as well.
I remember the dark days, of when I stopped watching your videos for a bit, but then one fate full day, I saww you upload vs playstation, my initial thoughts, "one man can not take on an entire console". This video, is gravy. "
I would have rather grown up with PS1. It had way more variety in genre and mascots, loads of third party supporters, and some games that are expensive as shit like Klonoa, Tomba, and Suikoden 2, which would have been awesome to buy at retail price. The N64 has much less variety. Very few fighting games or RPGs, literally not a single classic 2D game, and they are relatively cheap, money wise. Even some of the more expensive games don't reach several hundred dollars like a whole bunch of PS1 games do.
***** I just got all 108 stars of destiny in the first two a little less than a month ago, so I agree completely, and have 3, 4, and tactics lined up to play next.
This console was my childhood. The PlayStation 2 came out the same year I was born (2000), but mom couldn't afford a PS2 (I don't think, anyway. Maybe she just didn't see the need to upgrade), so we had a PSX instead, and I loved it. However, because we couldn't bring anything with us when we skipped town the very day before Katrina hit (except the clothes on our back, obviously), the PlayStation, like our family dog, had to suffer through the hurricane and following flood. Yet whereas our dog survived both of those things (he was later found and taken to New York for a time, until we got him back), the PlayStation was destroyed. I got a new one years later (sometime in 2014), but I haven't been able to find the all the wires and games for it ever since our most recent move.
THAT GAME'S BEAUTIFUL!!!! T_T, IT'S ONE OF MY FAVOURITE GAMES OF ALL TIME, and the first game that made me cry T_T , i'll never forget the feelings that i had with that ending :')
How I was was introduced to Playstation, it was commercials of Final Fantasy VII, Crash Bandicoot and Parapa the Rapper. My main priority was Final Fantasy VII at the time.
I prefer nintendo systems but playstation really knows how to make systems and games ( well their development studios make them for them but still). The exclusives are amazing and the hardware is always good. They messed up on the ps3 and vita when they both started out but they got picked up down the road and are great
Memories of the PlayStation were sweet and heartwarming to me and my family. I remember seeing my dad before he lost his mind, playing Twisted Metal 2 and my brother William playing my favorite, Final Fantasy VII. To me my most favorite PlayStation game will always forever be, Final Fantasy IX. So I am happy that my family showed me the PlayStation.
Drinking game for this video: Take a shot every time Johnny says "The likes of..." Dude, seriously, I love your videos but I'm sure you can find other phrases to say instead.
The likes of this comment will help me construct future reviews. :D I guess I went a little overboard this time, I'll just make sure I have my coffee before I begin writing the next review.
Will you do PS2? I fell like I'm the only one who grew up with this console. And dang, I played Rayman Revolution like there's no tomorrow. :3. Good Times.
I grew up with the ps2 as much as the ps1! I love it so much. I was born in 99 so I had the ps1 and ps2, I still can't pick a favorite. Your not alone.
AH! So much nostalgia! It's great to find another TH-camr that grew up with the PS1.
Caddy! How's that Spyro retrospective coming along?
couldn't keep a straight face when i read this
Caddy + Johnny = EPIC CROSSOVER OF EPIC PROPORTIONS!
CADDICARUS!! I LUVS YOU!!
Caddicarus watching Johnny.
Good to know my 2 most favourite reviewers watch each other.
"Megaman X6 is not that bad"
This aged wonderfully!
XD
Well he did say that there were work arounds to possibly make the game somewhat enjoyable. But even then he said that your pretty much better off playing any other X game
"BUT THAT'S A DISCUSSION FOR ANOTHER DAY....."
That PlayStation startup sound is what you hear when you ascend into heaven
+brokenSCART While the PS2 "No Disc" sound was the decent to hell.
and the PS4 startup sound is the sound you hear right before you fall asleep.
And the second PS3 startup is when u wake up after u manage to have a good sleep
You're probably right...
You can never forget that sound.
Johnny then: “mega man X6 is not that bad”
Johnny now: “this game cheats, so I cheat back”
This game cheats so i cheat back, fuck it.
Yep, now we’re watching his videos over and over again as adults…
yeah, i am rewatching his old videos right now at 2am. No idea why but i'm addicted

Same. It's not just nostalgia, the PS1 had games that stuck with ya because of how good or influential they were.
All the people I'm subscribed to are subscribed to other people I'm subscribed to. Or, you know, could have just come in and watch the latest vid, happens sometimes.
SomecallmeJohnny Metal Gear Solid is the best PS1 game in my opinion. It's stuck with me for a while.
I agree. I grew up on the ps2 but I've played some of the famous classics and now I use an emulator for games I can't afford.
omg duuude i remmebr having one lying around and gave it to my friend for pokemon yellow.
While Pokemon yellow is awesome.
WHY
Sincerely, you should do more console reviews.

+Miserable Masquerade He meant he wishes Johny reviewed more consoles. Not console games.
+Gwyn, Lord of Cinder agreed
He did, and his take on the PS2 is out riiiiight....now.

A lot of People Including Me, Probably played Crash and Spyro for the PS1 the most xDD
So many good memories of the PS1. So many memories... :'(
My first introduction into 3D gaming! The first game I played for it was the original Crash Bandicoot!!
Crash series , Spyro series, Tomba 2 and Front Mission 3. That was my childhood on ps1. As even if I had more games, those were my personal favourites.
I LOVED the rugrats game it was so cool getting reptar in the end
The game can be fun, but the controls are AWFUL
Rugrats Studio Tour was better.
Personally I think Johnny needs more videos like this. Instead of focusing on one game and describing every detail , he should focus on several games and just say his thoughts.
Yes! A Crash Bandicoot marathon! I've been thinking about giving these games a shot, so I'm curious to see what you think of them, John!
you must play the first "Spyro The Dragon"
hours of fun right there
***** All 3....for funzies and such
Man, Johnny should do more reviews like this. Id love to see him reviewing the SNES or the PS2, for example!
Ah, I love Toy Story 2 and Gex 2.
This is my favourite Caddicarus episode.
That intro literally makes my day each and every time I hear it (meaning I replayed it 25 times before getting on to the actual video)
0:00 RIGHT IN THE CHILDHOOD, it felt good

I have that feeling too. It isn't my favorite episode though, but it's high up there.
I think it's funny that you didn't mention Spyro, and I bet now you are getting one helluva backlash.
He didn't grow up playing Spyro. (See BrainScratchComms Spyro commentary)
Because I totally follow his let's play channel? :|
***** I was just telling you why he didn't mention Spyro. I didn't say you had to follow the LP channel. :/
BladeBlur I nearly reported you on accident. Lol. Weird coincidence because I love the spyro games
The good old days when ANYTHING that had the Squaresoft logo was a gem. Look at the mess that is Square-Enix now... man...
I got it! He always played Sonic the Hedgehog on the PlayStation 1! That explains his Crash Bandicoot Wallpaper on his desktop!
This video brought back so many memories! No girl problems, no money problems just playing awesome games with my friends on my PS1! I miss those days....sigh..
"You won't know the meaning of this message until later." Barely caught that at 14:40

And the First Xbox right?

...Caddicarus will be pissed. Yep.
WarioJim Well Caddicarus also doesn't like Final Fantasy VII!!!

I love the PS1's Dualshock controller. That thing is bitching.
Spyro's next, holy balls! No, wait...

"and I immediately regretted that purchase."

+Jərımıąhısąıąh Yep.
And thus, 10 years later, we finally got that review of Brave Fencer Musashi.

What's with parents and selling old games behind the backs of their children?
heroshadow42 90s parents didn't fuck around

Hint Hint Crash Bandicoot
we pretty much could have seen that on his monitor of his desktop in the background XD
Hiita Firecharmer he could've trolled us

I hope we don't have to wait another 7 years for the PS3 or Gamecube video.

Drinking game for this video: Take a shot every time Johnny says "The likes of..."
Dude, seriously, I love your videos but I'm sure you can find other phrases to say instead.
The likes of this comment will help me construct future reviews. :D
I guess I went a little overboard this time, I'll just make sure I have my coffee before I begin writing the next review.
No Tony Hawk 1 and 2 mention?
Will you do PS2? I fell like I'm the only one who grew up with this console. And dang, I played Rayman Revolution like there's no tomorrow. :3. Good Times.
