This truly was the best time for gaming. I had a GameCube growing up and my friend had the PS2 so we would always visit each other to play the games we were missing out on
I'm expecting a rerelease on the PS10 with a few adjustments in the future. Unless we actually get GTA 6 and Rockstar starts milking that until its reduced to an anemic cow.
I’ve been following you for 10 years Johnny. You’re the first TH-camr I started following. Crazy to think some of these games were barely 5 years old when this channel started. Thanks for all the nostalgia through the years.
I was always mesmerized by the PS2 opening. I didn’t own a PS2 myself, but one of my friends in the neighborhood did. Being down in his basement on weekends, the two of us playing the original Star Wars Battlefront 2 with a big bowl of popcorn brought down by his mom. Man, does were the days.
@@VonFirflirch Hey, nothing wrong with watching someone else play a game. I experienced the likes of Luigi's Mansion and Resident Evil 4 by watching my sister play them, after all. Of course, the best thing about experiencing a video game is when YOU end up unlocking someone. I still recall the first time I unlocked Marth and Mewtwo in Melee via Vs. Mode. I was just playing some matches against my family as Kirby, so imagine my surprise when I was chosen by the game to fight this blue-haired pretty boy swordsman and the villain of the first Pokemon movie.
Wait there was an og battlefront 2? Remember the days when online wasnt that well known and online marketplaces (and therefore dlc and mtx) didnt exist
2:41 Shit, seeing that building takes me back. The smell of butter popcorn as you step in the door, the TVs all playing info on the latest releases at the time, DAMN I'm old. Who here remembers GameFly?
"I wouldn't look at all the mainline games in a row, that's not the smart thing to do" I see what you did there John. I commend Clement for sticking with it though.
You know I don't know if that's what his intention was in saying that, but I really liked their rivalry in older videos and anytime clements on Brainscratchcomms so I'm going to choose to believe he was referencing Clements retrospective.
You ever have that feeling when you already had a good day, and then you get a notification from your favorite TH-camr? Johnny, the smiles and laughs in this video (and just your videos in general) are something I will not forget at all. I legit kid you not, I was watching this and I, out loud, went “YES!” during two moments: when you touched upon Grand Theft Auto (esp. Vice City, I was SO pumped to hear about a game from my own childhood), and when you talked and mentioned a FINAL FANTASY MARATHON! And when the music from the FF7 Remake Prelude came on, and it showed all the games on your shelf, to say I was overjoyed would be a vast understatement. (BTW, I understand that a marathon of FF games seems daunting, so take as much time as you need to on reviewing them! I would love to hear your thoughts about FF7 and hear about other FF games I want to try out, but I think I can speak for others when I say that we would hate to see you burnt out if you did them all in a row.) Man, it may seem like a small thing to a lot of people. But hearing that your favorite Internet personality was going to touch on games and series that you know, or a series that you want to know more of (in my case, Final Fantasy, considering I’ve only played and beaten 7, both the original and Remake), it just... it’s such a special feeling, you know? My man, I’ve been watching your videos for years, and to be able to go through the evolution of the channel and hearing you talk about different series that I would have NEVER given the time and day, only to now LOVE them, like Metal Gear and Resident Evil? I seriously mean this from the bottom of my heart, but thank you, Johnny. Thanks for reading this if you did make it this far, and I cannot wait to see what’s in store for the future. Please take care, John, and here’s to many more outstanding videos and laughs and smiles. :) Sincerely, Gabe
I’m sure this isn’t really “appropriate “ to bring up, but outside of its own games, among my biggest PS2 memories include getting some disced emulators of various retro consoles and getting to experience many old classics for the first time. Spending a whole summer with a fat PS2 in a relative’s home in another city was a big treat. And man, the animated save file icons were su fun to watch (Under 30 seconds squad presenting)
Johnny talks about final fantasy Me: yes Johnny shows a panning shot of final fantasy games Me: YES Johnny says he'll need time to think about it Me: ....
I mean, what I got out of it is that he wants to figure out how he's gonna tackle the games. All mainline games is too much, especially for the viewers who don't care about FF. So like, "classic" FF first? Or only the games that he's had some personal history first? That kinda stuff. With him going "I wanna talk Final Fantasy", and the dedicated scene showing off the games, I REALLY wanna believe that it's coming soon, after he figures out which games to go through.
Me and my brother had to share our PS2 Slim as I had games like Jak and Daxter, Rachet and Clank, Sly Cooper, SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle For Bikini Bottom, Sonic Mega Collection Plus, Sonic Gems Collection (since we had it on PS2 in the UK), Crash Twinsanity and Spyro: A Hero's Tale whilest my brother had Need For Speed and FIFA 05.
I remember having HEATED discussions at recess about wich game was better: Devil May Cry 3 or God of War 2. Oh, the good days... Obviously, the right answer is Devil May Cry 3.
I agree. You're forced to use more combos. God of War only requires more technical combos on highest difficulty, and then you usually pick the same ones.
Funny Story on how I got my ps2 , a friend of mine was being bad so their mom decided to throw it out , which lead to my mother taking it for me , and I have had it ever since 2012 , just hope he doesn't want it back.
I love Johnny's retrospectives on consoles and such, such a different take on his familiar style of videos but still nails the comedy and the review side of things.
The line “Feel the power of my maaaagic” was a line me and my friends over used in D&D and regular life in our early college years, so it made me smile so much to see you use the clip
The PlayStation 2 was the reason I got into video games, got it for my birthday in 2002 when I was just 4. Still have the same fat model console to this day and it STILL works...barely but it works. Funny enough I can only seem to get Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy running on it, my favorite PS2 game of all time. I have a silver slim model that works with everything so it's all good. Jak, Ratchet, Sly, Shadow of the Colossus, Spongebob, Crash, Spyro, Ty. Simpsons, GTA, Castlevania, Gran Turismo, Guitar Hero, Namco Museum, my God there really was something for everyone!
Here's Johnny with the nostalgia trip i need, i don't care about PS5 at the minute and i'm getting sick of the next gen talk, so i'm glad you're taking a look back at PS2 (Sony's best console and a major part of my childhood, still love Tekken 4 to this day, remember when me and my father would play it all the time when i was younger, good times)

Heh, yeah, a Final Fantasy marathon would be a massive undertaking, and you'd have to do it in segments. I'm sure you're aware of Clement's project on that. His goal of having one game done a month was way too lofty by the time he got to the PS1 games.
My introduction to the PS2 was SMT nocturne which was also my first introduction to RPGs in general.......... you can imagine the terror I had as a kid.
Unsubscribe from my channel I couldn’t even get that far cause I kept getting my ass handed to me by Matador, and the entire conception idea traumatized poor 5 year old me.
Did you see that copy of SMT: Nocturne in the shelf? I gave him that game during his time at Too Many Games 2019 although it was through Ryan from Brainscratch Commentaries and I said to him that that game was for Johnny. It was also the same game that I gave Caddicarus during his time at Too Many Games 2018.
“One night while visiting my uncle’s late in the year, he shows me this new title from squaresoft” Man I wish my family was that cool no one other than me knows what a video game is
The PS2 is tied with the SNES as my favorite console of all time. In my eyes, the PS2 perfected 3D the way the SNES perfected 2D. Ratchet, Jak, Sly, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry, the Team ICO games, the Dragon Ball games (excluding Sagas, of course), I could go on. As much as I love the GameCube, there's no competition on which console was the best of the 6th generation. There are still so many classics I haven't gotten to yet in my never ending journey through gaming history, it's just such a good console. Just goes to prove that the power in the console doesn't mean nearly as much as the games that back it, and the PS2 had the games in droves.
@@Gruntvc 6th gen and late 5th gen, was peak gaming at its finest. More specifically between 98-05. The hardware limitations for 3D game development were almost gone and there were no trends so devs had the creative freedom to try it all. You'll find a lot of games with crazy and creative ideas from this generation. Plus, all 4 consoles had at least a few hundred exclusives each. It was also the last generation to hold ALL content on physical discs and have inbuilt cheat codes. Before paid online, online multiplayer focus, dlcs, microtransactions and patches. My only complaint from this generation would be the region lock, otherwise, it was perfect in my book.
The ps2 had so much support, and the gcn had more power and a bunch of exclusives. Yes, the ps2 has my favorite game of all time, but the gamecube has better versions of 3rd party games and had quite a few good exclusives.
I have binge watched your entire Johnny vs playlist. This video has to be my favourite episode you have ever done. It's the first time I have ever watched it and have watched 3 times within and hour and half.
The PS2 was the first console I remember playing. I recall playing the hell out of: Battle for Bikini Bottom The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie Lego Star Wars Star Wars Battlefront 1 (didn’t get 2 until much later) NASCAR Heat Sonic Mega Collection Plus I owe it all to this one console. Now if only I could find some authentic controllers to play the games again, all I find these days are cheap, knockoff controllers.
@@Phanthief95 For me it was kingdom hearts 2, shadow of the colossus, and the one i spent the most time with: Dragon quest 8. Love that game and series.

@@DaiGato420 Personally with the number of times he's brought up FF14 and how many hours he's apparently poured into it, I think that video would be one juggernaut onto itself. Possibly something to even rival the sonic 06 review.
Glad you made this video. I got a PS2 for Christmas 2019. I got with Ratchet and Clank, Metal Gear Solid 3, Garfield Lasagna World Tour, God Of War, and Ty The Tasmania Tiger. I've been playing it a lot over this year, even more so after quarantine. My PS2 collection is pretty good. I've got a couple more games like Persona 4, Simpsons Hit and Run, Spongebob Battle For Bikini Bottom, and more. I love the PS2.
I have theme song that plays when you duel against the Lancastrians. Would say that's the Yorkist theme or theirs? I prefer Yorkists, cause I prefer that ending. The direct confirmation that you're being sent back to your time.
More like Remake so we can get some legacy support added in and maybe make the game a bit longer. Nothing super crazy. Just plain more content in addition to cleaner graphics and animations.
Corrupted Data that can't be deleted is a bad sign. I remember having a 3rd party Memory Card that had a big block of undeleteable corrupted data that would cause trying to save games like RE4 and MGS3 to always fail. Despite that I was using that card for many other games that didn't have problems with the block (I had another one; it's just the 3rd party one is larger). In the years of using the card however, it eventually corrupted altogether and games asked to format the card, which they couldn't and I lost all the data from that corrupted card. So yeah I would recommend anyone with memory cards that have those problems to copy good saves to another memory card in case they have to be formatted or just get corrupted altogether.
The Playstation 2 is such a great system, one of my favorites. So many great memories and games! Kingdom Hearts, the Jak series, the Ratchet and Clank series, Final Fantasy X, Tales of the Abyss, god there so many great games!
Please play Okami if you haven't. It was originally on the PS2 and you can get it on the PS4 now. It is my favorite game, and it still looks good today on the PS4 despite it being an older generation title.
9:15 Johnny this is why we love you. Not just because listening to you is just somehow soothing, we learn stuff, etc., but these types of visual gags just make me laugh so much, and it shouldn't be that... "Funny". It's just the fact you did it at the same time when I was kind of focusing on the reflection of the mic.
The first PS2 game I really remember playing in my early childhood was *DBZ Budokai 1.* This was before I was even introduced to the anime of Dragon Ball Z, or even knew what "anime" actually was. All I knew was that it was about a bunch of huge, muscular, spiky haired guys who could shoot ki blasts and punch people through mountains and that was good enough for me! I had a lot of fun playing it.
It reads CDs better when standing vertical. There are sometimes some problems with reading blue disks, which are CDs not DVDs. Using tape on the CDs or putting the console vertical solves that problem.
I vaguely remember my PS2... Sonic Unleashed is the one that really sticks out to me. I remember getting up the Dark Gaia fight, failed a few times because I was young and bad, decided to leave it a week or two and play something else (Probably one of the Spongebob games, I loved those) and then my save data vanished. I have absolutely no idea what happened (I'm going to assume my brother was futzing about with my save) but at the same time the controller's shoulder buttons fell apart and I could no longer get past the tutorial because I couldn't quick step. And with that I went right back to my Xbox. That is until my xbox literally snapped my copy of Sonic Heroes in half. I've never forgiven it for that.
Huh, I suppose you're right. Even several years down the line, my PS3 bugs out when playing Generations. Last time I tried playing it, I couldn't go past Green Hill Act 2 because the final stretch of land just refused to load. My consoles are haunted by the Tails Doll, I swear.
@@crazyshark1016 Oh my god, I WAS KIDDING! Your consoles actually have a vendetta against Sonic. And I thought Wally West was the one the universe was conspiring against by denying folks like me the chance to buy comics featuring him. Long story short, I tried getting Rebirth Titans Vol. 1, Rebirth Red Hood & The Outlaws Vol. 1, and DCeased: Unkillables a few days ago, but the card machine at the bookstore wouldn't accept any card, so I had to use my actual cash to buy one comic. Given how DCeased is one of the few things DC is doing right now that I'm invested in, you better believe that was taking priority, but that was just plain bullshit what happened.
@@raidoukuzonoha883 I could give less of a fuck if he cheated on her or not. The fact that he sent nudes to a teenager is the much bigger sticking point for me-NO ONE who causes or lets children come to harm or trauma like that earns a view or cent of support from me. Not now. Not ever.
Ikari Metal Slugger Glad to see some love for Downpour. That game was unjustly overlooked and hated, it’s the only modern SH that matches the originals in terms of atmosphere IMO.
Lots of good memories of playing tons of games AND movies on my own PS2. Such a massive and yet quality library of awesome games. Great retrospective, it was fun to see some else's experience with the console! Also, looking forward to those Onimusha, Mortal Kombat and Final Fantasy retrospectives!!!
Just a fun fact. It took a really long time to perfect the blue LED. That's why in older tech it's always a red LED. It was also important because blue light has a faster wave length which led to us being able to make blue lasers to read and write data faster like in Blu-ray.
I still remember my first PS2 game, Yugioh Capsule Monster Colosseum. I was still a big fan of the card game and show at the time and I wanted me some free cards so I got that and Duelists of the Roses. Thankfully the rest of my library was filled out by my exposure to G4 (can't wait for it to come back BTW) and friends. It was taken up by Sly Cooper, Tak and the power of Juju, Ratchet and Clank, Okami, Kingdom Hearts, the Dragonball Z Budokai games, God of War my first M rated game, the Mega Man X anniversary collection, Persona 4. DANM THIS CONSOLE HAD SOME TOP TIER GAMES!
I was 6 when I first started playing games. Like Johnny's uncle mine had a ps2 and he introduced me to many franchises that I still play like Kingdom Hearts and Medal if Honor. Bless gaming uncles. Wouldn't know where we'd be without them.
The corrupted file is probably God of War 2, the series had big file sizes for the time because I think it also stored a screenshot of where you were when you saved, and multiple saves would make the file larger. Also, I think the second game had a rather common save file bug.
28:28 That name is actually a Queen reference, of all things (Sol's real name in the lore is Fredrick Bulsura, which was Freddie Mercury's real name, and "Mr. Badguy" was Freddie's solo album)
Wait, seriously? That's cool. Queen were one of the best bands of all time. As much as I like the GG series, and as cool as that is to know, I prefer BlazBlue. Mainly because Ragna The Bloodedge is a cooler character, but Sol Badguy is still my favorite Guilty Gear character. I'd just love to see a Guilty Gear/BlazBlue crossover. Like Capcom Vs. SNK. Maybe call it Guilty Gear Vs. BlazBlue?
"some of the system's biggest entries" >drakengard man I grew up through so much of my life with that game being such an obscure underground title. it's wild how much I hear everyone talk about it now that NieR Automata came out.
The best era! KH was just getting started and there weren't like a million games yet. Ratchet and Clank, Sly, Jak and Daxter pushed the platforming genre into a new direction. RPG's were solid. Gamecube was underrated, but was dropping some pretty solid titles. The xbox was just getting started. Only downside was there were no patches so if your game was a buggy mess (ex. Dragon Ball Sagas) or a fighting game character was op you just had to deal with it (ex. Budokai/Tenkaichi games, CVS2.) but it was usually pretty funny if you had good friends. Music was good as hell. Also, guides and manuals still existed. I'm sure people could list more reasons why this gen was so good.
See, this is the kinda video I like. I've been searching TH-cam for Playstation 2 videos, and there's so many copy and paste "Top 10" or "Must have" list videos. It's ridiculous. I love hearing about people's actual experiences playing the games growing up, or hearing about lesser-known or lesser-discussed games. Like, some of my favorite games on PS2 are Freekstyle, Airblade, Colin McRae Rally 3, and Downhill Domination. But I never hear anyone talk about them outside maybe one video out of a hundred (and it's usually by someone that actually cares about discussing PS2, and not just in it for the views). I know emulation isn't everyone's thing. I had a PS2 growing up, and still do somewhere in storage. But I don't have the room to hook it up, or the money to buy a whole collection of games. So I emulate. My emulator currently has around 240 or so games. And personally, I consider every single one of those 240 games to be at least decent, most being closer to "good" or "great". Yet I always hear about the same like 20-30 games, over and over again, and it gets old. Just for the hell of it, here's a short taste of some of the games on my emulator for anyone looking to try some stuff out: 18 Wheeler American Pro Trucker Ace Combat 4, 5, and Zero Airblade Amplitude Armored Core Nine Breaker Cold Fear Colin McRae Rally 3 Dawn of Mana Destruction Derby Arenas Dirge of Cerberus FF7 Downhill Domination Dynasty Warriors 3 and 4 Enter the Matrix Evil Dead Regeneration Evil Twin Fatal Frame 1, 2, and 3 Fifa Street 2 Firefighter FD 18 Forbidden Siren 2 Freekstyle Frequency Genji Dawn of the Samurai Ghosthunter Godfather Grandia 2 and 3 Gun GunGrave Haunting Ground Hot Shots Golf 3 and 'four!' This vid is a really good one man. I didn't grow up with the console (gamecube household over here), but this was a fun nostalgic look back at the early 2000s.
PS2 was a JRPG machine and then some however my fondest memory was when I got destroyed in the first Monster Hunter game by wild boars known as Bullfangos... :D Now I'm looking forward to a major free title update for Monster Hunter World: Iceborne (perhaps the last one for this game) on my PS4-Pro and enjoying how much of a global success the franchise has become (the distinct lack of Bullfango's helps too).

Astro. I will always have an soft spot for the Gamecube and it does do some things better than the PS2 in terms of the more polished framerates & better design console. But I prefer the PS2 more due to more license, better library of games, more storage data, backward capability and u can play movies on it.
Onimusha: Warlords was my first game on this thing. After that? MGS2. That Christmas was magical to me. Also, a Final Fantasy Marathon? Gonna have to break that up in sections somehow, else you're gonna burn out.

I lived with my cousins growing up and for Christmas '03, my dad got me the GameCube, and my uncle bought my cousins the PS2. All my experience with the Playstation 2 was with my cousins, and this video reminded me of all those memories we had. Hard to believe so many years went by. So many Games.
Funny that Johnny mentions Ratchet and Clank when the uncut demo of Rift Apart was showed today at Gamescon , not sure if that was a coincidence or not.
@Alezander2002 it’s an internet expression basically meaning, “but ok.” Sorry if it came off as rude, I just get a bit frustrated when people don’t get my jokes
No joke, I bought Final Fantasy 10 on the switch day *ONE* and in one year, I spent 575 hours on the game, and as of now… 705 hours! That should tell you that this game is something special!
HandheldGamer1991 No, it’s just from replaying it and doing a bunch of insane stuff. A normal play through clocks in about 40-60 hours. Double that if you want to experience the entire postgame and everything else.
This was such a fun video. Yeah the PS2 era was definitely one heck of a time. I know that the PS1 era was considered the Golden Age but I feel like that Golden age further extended with the PS2 because the atmosphere was still one of experimentation and not afraid to take risks. So many great games came out on the system that still have held the test of time. Watching this, it made me realize that as much as I loved the PS2 era, I really missed out on a lot of games back in the day that yeah, I ended up playing much later in my life but still, it makes me wish that I explored more of what the PS2 had to offer outside of the games that I was already hooked on at the time. Anyway, nice retrospective, the nostalgia was just too much haha.

Might be a unpopular opinion, but i prefer Unleashed for the PS2/Wii over XB360/PS3's version.
This truly was the best time for gaming. I had a GameCube growing up and my friend had the PS2 so we would always visit each other to play the games we were missing out on
Now that's the face of someone who knows he's not getting a new game in years.
Poor Mega Man.
There was an oversaturation of mega man games during that period.
@@Carsonj13 I think he's talking about Classic Mega Man
When a retrospective of various games on the PS2 is still shorter than a Sonic 06 review...
LMFAO! XD
I think Johnny has probably made a secret pact to himself that he'll never make a video that excessive and gargantuan ever again lol
Captain VaNNNNN As long as we don’t count the review of SGB as a whole.
Fun fact: while you mention Vendetta, Def Jam: Fight for NY features a special thanks credit from Masahiro Sakurai. Yes, *that* Masahiro Sakurai.
Huh, I just learned of those games because of an old video.

I'm expecting a rerelease on the PS10 with a few adjustments in the future.
Unless we actually get GTA 6 and Rockstar starts milking that until its reduced to an anemic cow.
Been watching Johnny since about 2010 and I gotta say, when I heard him say “I wanna talk about final fantasy” my heart skipped a beat
Imagine: Johnny vs. Sega Genesis
I'm kinda surprised that hasn't happened yet.

I’ve been following you for 10 years Johnny. You’re the first TH-camr I started following. Crazy to think some of these games were barely 5 years old when this channel started. Thanks for all the nostalgia through the years.
What I love so much about the PS2 is that, with so many great games, people can have entirely different experiences and histories with the console!
Looking forward to Johnny vs. the GameCube.
If he fought a Gamecube, he wouldn't be able to scratch it.
But he already made a video on Melee

I was always mesmerized by the PS2 opening. I didn’t own a PS2 myself, but one of my friends in the neighborhood did.
Being down in his basement on weekends, the two of us playing the original Star Wars Battlefront 2 with a big bowl of popcorn brought down by his mom. Man, does were the days.
Except when the game didn't work and it went to the console menu system. Or worse, a disc error was shown.
That was my special signal as a kid.
"Quick! My brother is playing something, let's awkwardly go watch it!" xD
New battlefront seems kinda lame
I was wondering if there's a chance he's going to do more Johnny vs. with consoles, and here we are.

I see what you did there John.
I would love to hear your thoughts about FF7 and hear about other FF games I want to try out, but I think I can speak for others when I say that we would hate to see you burnt out if you did them all in a row.)
Man, it may seem like a small thing to a lot of people.
Sincerely, Gabe
I appreciate you watching and listening. The eventual marathon is gonna be one of my most heartfelt.

How’s that “Inappropriate” really?
Dude, SNES Station and P-Gen were my jam, I love these emulators to death and they're responsible for some of my best memories with the PS2
Inappropriate is watching porn on someone else's computer, not this.
I loved the snes emulator and the sega genesis one on the ps2, specially the music on the snes one.

We need a Final Fantasy marathon.
Mario9919 That’s probably gonna take a lot of time to do the series (including the spinoffs)
You and me both lol
Ya, I'm getting balls like a Smurf here.

Agreed.
PS2, Xbox, GameCube, and pc were all excellent during that time.
Can't say the same for today's gaming options.
I still like Dreamcast more.

You’re the best John!

Tape really?
Damn...your consoles have a vendetta against Sonic.

Just a fun fact. It took a really long time to perfect the blue LED. That's why in older tech it's always a red LED. It was also important because blue light has a faster wave length which led to us being able to make blue lasers to read and write data faster like in Blu-ray.

And I have more, obviously that's not 240 games. But I tried to avoid the obvious stuff like God of War, GTA, Gran Turismo, Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter, etc.
Glad to see someone else who also knows Ace Combat and Klonoa 2
This vid is a really good one man. I didn't grow up with the console (gamecube household over here), but this was a fun nostalgic look back at the early 2000s.
PS2 was a JRPG machine and then some however my fondest memory was when I got destroyed in the first Monster Hunter game by wild boars known as Bullfangos... :D
Now I'm looking forward to a major free title update for Monster Hunter World: Iceborne (perhaps the last one for this game) on my PS4-Pro and enjoying how much of a global success the franchise has become (the distinct lack of Bullfango's helps too).
It's pretty pointless but I wish we could get a monster hunter collection with open servers again. I'd like to play 1,2 and portable 3rd.
A JRPG machine, and yet I didn't play a single one of them. Instead, I got my fix with the best version of Namco Museum ever produced.
A fellow hunter! I'll see you at the guild! XD
it was definitely a JRPG machine. I mean series like SMT alone were pumping out games constantly
No dlc or patches so if your game was a buggy mess (ex. Dragon Ball Sagas) or a fighting game character was op you just had to deal with it (ex. Budokai/Tenkaichi games, CVS2.) Music was good as hell. Also, guides and manuals still existed. I'm sure people could list more reasons why this gen was so good.
And TimeSplitters games. Mostly Future Perfect
Kh has lost its flare:(
PS2 just might be one of my favorite consoles of all time next to the SNES.
As much as I loved my PS2 growing up, I thi k I'd have had more fun with a GameCube back in the day. PS2 was still fantastic and I am grateful to have had it
Astro. I will always have an soft spot for the Gamecube and it does do some things better than the PS2 in terms of the more polished framerates & better design console. But I prefer the PS2 more due to more license, better library of games, more storage data, backward capability and u can play movies on it.
Really enjoyed this unique vs. series! I'd love to see Johnny cover a vs. for Dreamcast or maybe Playstation 3 :D
One of my favourite vids of yours. I’d love to see you cover other consoles you grew up with in a video like this
The fact that you used music from Budokai 2 alone has made me a subscriber. I am a fan for sure now!
Onimusha: Warlords was my first game on this thing. After that? MGS2. That Christmas was magical to me.
Also, a Final Fantasy Marathon? Gonna have to break that up in sections somehow, else you're gonna burn out.
For real. Trying to get them all done at once would take a literal decade with how long each entry is and the sheer number of titles in the series. :P
Seeing Johnny talk about the PS2 Is kinda surreal if you grew up with the PS2. Nonetheless, im not complaining ^^
First game i ever bought with my own money i got with my first part time job back in 02
"It's been a while since I've did that personal look back video on the playstation, that was back in what..."
Oh, I remember that video, came out 2 or 3 years ago I think
"...2014 I think?"
WHAT
I feel like a fucking fossil
I’m not even a big ff fan and would LOVE a final fantasy retrospective I’ve been waiting for you to cover those since i became a fan in 2016
I lived with my cousins growing up and for Christmas '03, my dad got me the GameCube, and my uncle bought my cousins the PS2. All my experience with the Playstation 2 was with my cousins, and this video reminded me of all those memories we had. Hard to believe so many years went by. So many Games.
If you loved Def Jam Vendetta, you're gonna be hooked on the sequel, Def Jam: Fight For NY! It's better than Vendetta in every single aspect!
I was waiting for him to mention that. Spent HOURS on that
Andre Davila just don’t play icon
Wrestling with rappers by AKI? Shit yeah. The best part was the move names. "Thugged Around"
The Def Jam series basically is to rap what Super Smash Bros. is to Nintendo.
@@Astolfo2001 Yeah. Too bad it all crashed and burned when Def Jam Icon came out.
Funny that Johnny mentions Ratchet and Clank when the uncut demo of Rift Apart was showed today at Gamescon , not sure if that was a coincidence or not.
*I Think NOT*
@Alezander2002 And I was joking, but go off I guess
@Alezander2002 it’s an internet expression basically meaning, “but ok.” Sorry if it came off as rude, I just get a bit frustrated when people don’t get my jokes
No joke, I bought Final Fantasy 10 on the switch day *ONE* and in one year, I spent 575 hours on the game, and as of now…
705 hours!
That should tell you that this game is something special!
Does it take that long to complete it or what?
HandheldGamer1991
No, it’s just from replaying it and doing a bunch of insane stuff.
35:29 - 35:46 : I feel your pain, Johnny. In fact, this is precisely why I'm always so hesitant to learn how to play a song that I'm familiar with and love on the piano.
