Living all alone was a masterpiece of an Album. The emotion she evoked. Phyllis Hyman knew how to hook her audience. I bought the CD then & still play it to this day! RIP beautiful lady.
The world just isn't the same without the incomparable Phyllis Hyman. Authentic, beautiful, witty, graceful, funny, and ridiculously vocally gifted. I feel privileged to have been exposed to her music at such a young age.
I'm only 28 so I didn't really know her. In fact, I just found out about her today by watching this video, but my gosh!!!! What a beautiful woman! Wish I had the chance to meet her, and was a bit older too. R.I.P
Many of us was of age to enjoy this beautiful songstress. Nobody could match her vocals then or today. Voices of today can learn a lot from the late great Phyllis Hyman. RIP 🙏 Singers sang back then!
Amazingly beautiful woman she is! I remember hearing her voicr when my mother used to play her records and I would just be in complete aw!!! Beautiful woman!
It seems it was a dig at Clive Davis. We all know Davis wanted her to do pop songs with a soulful flare and she did not want to do that. It’s crazy because even though Clive made Whitney a huge star, Whitney got criticized for singing pop songs with soul. Phyllis was a force to be recokened with
Why do so many black stars die at such early age.. this happens to no other race of celebrity..not at the same rate. Not to mention being artistically and commercially ripped off through and beyond their careers. It's somewhat better today. Still, of the majority of truly great legendary black figures, see their outcomes. It saddens me...
Because our Black artists are the artists and not many out on the corporate or management side so there’s a lot of trauma in that relationship. You’re constantly working to get others paid. It can be heavy. Sometimes the weight of it makes artists turn to drugs, emotional issues, depression, and other sinister things. The music industry is very toxic. They’re performers and it can be taxing mentally. Fame is a drug and just the industry itself is detrimental if you’re not careful. Also, a lot of our Black artists die suspiciously or by “drugs”...Whitney, while she was deceased upstairs they partied downstairs. Once they’re done with you, they’re done with you. It’s a sad truth.
And also racism. That’s huge in the industry. We go through a lot as Black ppl. We’re the most innovative and intelligent group of people, we make the world go around, but due to skin color, they have put certain tactics in place to make it harder.
