    I’m having trouble understanding how you get the pump off before you file the tab. Also doesn’t this create a lot of metal shavings in your crankcase?

    Thanks for making the video. By chance did you make a video on how to take that one bolt out?? It seems impossible to do without dropping the pan.

      Did u figure it out?

    • @TheBucktowncrazy

      @masonorlando1747 I honestly had to drop the oil pan. It really didn't take that long to drop the pan. I was hesitant to drop it, but Im glad that I did do it. By dropping the pan, I also replaced the oil pick-up tube.
      They have videos on TH-cam showing how to do it without dropping the pan, but you need a few things to go your way. Like you need to be a smaller person to fit between the engine and radiator. You need to be careful not to drop the bolt in the pan when removing it or installing it back.
      I did watch one video where after the bolt was removed the guy making the video drilled a hole through the bolt and fed wire through the bolt and through the oil pump which allowed him to start threading the bolt vertically in the pickup tube into the oil pump.
      With that said, I found that dropping the pan made everything a lot easier. I suggest putting the vehicle up on jacks to give you room to drop the pan. From the time I jacked it up, dropped the pan, then replaced the oil pickup tube and oil pump, it probably took me 3 and half to 4 hours. And that's with cleaning the oil pan. Im glad i did it. Now i have a new gasket on the oil pan.
      In order to remove the pan, you do have to un bolt the crossmember and drop the 2 bolts for the steering.
      I have a 2007 gmc yukon xl 5.3

      @@TheBucktowncrazy see now I have a 01 1500 with the lm7 I rlly don’t want to drop the pan like I rlly rlly don’t want to at all not to mention the time I have on my hands I just don’t know , do you know if the pickup tube has any play in it? Say I didn’t drop the pan and I managed to get the bolts out of the tube and the oil pump was free , does the pickup tube have enough play to pop it out of the oil pump and slide it off vise versa

    Isn't there a few different style pickup oil tubes? I'm just wondering what style you have? I think some tabs were loose and some were solid, but very good idea, thanks for your video

    • @augustautollc3800
      @augustautollc3800 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, unfortunately mine (06 Envoy 5.3 4x4) is welded and can't be spun.

    • @nickvicious13
      @nickvicious13 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or you have braces further down the pickup tube that are bolted to the bottom of the crankcase divider or whatever you call it (the metal pan between the crank and oil pan itself) like I do then you may as well just do it right and get it off and cleaned out just make sure you have a decent jack with a wide base pref an adjustable trans jack to hold the front axle and diff so you dont need to drop the whole thing completely to the ground. And can manuever it right back into place fairly easy

    • @jacobhargiss9909
      @jacobhargiss9909 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nickvicious13those other brakets dont matter, all he's talking about is the tab that bolts to the pump, nothing else about the position of the tube changes.

  • @simpleman2004

    So you took a grinder to that pickup tube with the oilpan open like that? You live too close to the edge for my liking.

    Unless u have a 4x4 just drop the pan. 6 bolts for the Crossmember and 2 bolts to loosen the steering rack

    Makes alot of sense thanks

  • @nickvicious13
    @nickvicious13 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    This wont work unless you have an anomaly of a pickup tube that is ONLY held on by this single bolt by the inlet or there was some half ass job done before you and they didnt put the bolt back on but if youre like me theres always some problem and i have braces further back on the tube that required dropping the front end partially anyway but ALMOST a decent idea and most likely you should clean all the crud out of the screen and bottom of the oil pan anyway SO WHAT ID DO UNBOLT THE CROSSMEMBER AND TRANFER CASE MOUNT BOLTS AND PASSENGER SIDE OF THE AXLE MARKING THE POSITION OF IT so it will allow enough freedumb to be lowered the 2 or 3 inches required to get the pan down but thats all it really needs and you can get it out i mean unless you absolutely know for CERTAIN that your pan is spotless you should drain it and stick an inspection camera in there to see the bottom of the pan and pickup tube to see if doing this is realistic but maybe its just my luck having to do things the hard way..
