I Got SCAMMED Buying an Engine on EBAY!

- In this video I am reminding you to always verify you are getting what you purchased, I paid $2400 and received an engine worth $500. And I can't do anything about it. A simple check on delivery would have saved me thousands!
When you buy a motor, have the seller send a picture of the motor and also the motor serial #. I was on the opposite end of this story- I sold a motor to a guy and he claimed it was defective and went through Ebay for a refund. I asked him to send a picture of the motor serial # and it was not the same number that I had sent him. He was trying to send back his old blown up motor for a refund. He hadn't noticed that I had put the motor serial # in my ad- Ebay denied his claim.
Shifty be careful all crooks
Oh man. I feel you're pain my friend. Thank you for the information. I'll steer away from that company.
Thanks for watching! I Appreciate it!
@@JovaniDanteGriego I've been watching most of your builds and videos. You have allot of information. I'm just getting into LS engines and debating what engine I'm going to put into my 73 Camaro. Kinda "Gun shy!" into putting an LS in there.
That absolutely sucks. I hate it when I'm partially at fault. I loose sleep over stuff like that. I hope it goes smoother for you.
Yea I stressed about it for a bit, but I'll probably.just rebuild the engine in the avalanche my self, which I should've just done. And maybe I'll have an excuse for another project
I wouldn't let them get away with it do anything u can who cares how long it takes. Revenge is best eaten cold
Restocking fees should be criminal. How in the hell does it cost 35% to shelf a product back? It's just a way to sway people from even returning a product & to simply be forced to keep for many years before finally throwing it away. Even attempting to resell something in Offer Up, Craigs list, or even Ebay is a pain on the ass...bunch of pathetic people grinding you down to almost nothing. So I either give it for free or throw it. But even attempting to give something for free is a pain on the ass simply because people are pathetic.
Yea restocking fees are bullshit especially considering I'd be paying shipping already, and they got the engine from another junkyard to begin with
Wow.. I've been very hesitant on doing a purchase on eBay for a LS. Thanks for the info and advise
Same here bro last week I was going to buy on eBay, Ending up finding a 2003 Escalade 6.0 lq9 clean looking suv but the motor is healthy
I have successfully purchased an lq4 and an lq9 from ebay. Luckily they were both positive experiences.
@@rhoady35 do you have the eBay seller info??
DON'T DO IT!!! see MY FORD mustang grande part 2
$2400 for an LM7? Yikes!
Damn shame!! Sorry to hear that. Great info, I almost made a similar mistake.
Yea. I've definitely had better luck with other sellers. You win some and you lose some
Makes me just want to buy a brand new LS engine instead of used.
Now another pointer when you are going to buy a used engine only buy it if you can see what vehicle it came out of. Reason for that is you run the vehicle vin with car fax you can verify mileage -view last oil changes ect. Obviously not everything will be documented for service if they did their own work like me and many others but it will show the last odometer reading from recent inspection . I just looked at 25 different engines only 2 of them were legit or close to legit . Some advertised as 103k miles so I ran vin and they were 381k miles. All the older Chevy-gmc Yukons tahoes silverados you can swap instrument clusters from vehicle to vehicle and it works. So you can buy a brand new cluster online with zero miles plug it in and you will show zero miles on odometer. That’s how those guys are selling Yukons with 125k but really have 350k on them . Many crooks out there
I just got screwed on a Yukon xl I bought off eBay. Came off the hauler with low oil pressure. When I dropped the oil pan hood amount of metal -new pick up tube oring and oil pump already installed . Seller swears it wasn’t like that when it left so the truck driver hauling it must of been bored and decided to put new oil pump -oring and gasket in lol. I’ve proved to seller with video and photo evidence then I have less then 15 miles on vehicle and evidence of engine damage and that somebody already in there trying to fix oil pressure issues. He offered to give me $250 return and then another $250 after I left good review. I choose to leave bad review instead
You should of bought the right engine again from him off ebay and then when it came and was double checked file a return with ebay and send him the wrong one back. Ebay always sides with the buyer if the time frame is met. And never say it didnt fit because ebay wont side with you so always say not as described when asking to return. Sorry dude. You seem like a nice guy and that company did you wrong.
What are the best and reliable websites for ordering engines?
Theirs not many machine shops in business anymore so it’s getting harder to rebuild your own engine so I get my engines from City motors in Dallas already built ready to go good warranty
Damn bro that’s really unfortunate. Sorry that happened, but you live and you learn. Keep your head up
Thanks man! Maybe I'll just use the engine on another project
@@JovaniDanteGriego fingers crossed it’s good. Just last weekend I returned a motor to a salvage yard after I swapped it into my Sierra because it had zero oil pressure and a crazy knock
It's getting harder to find good engines
I bought an eBay motor little 4.3 been running good for over a year now. I am going to get a 5.3 next no worries here.
Appreciate you Sir… thanks for sharing… 🇺🇸🦅
No problem! Thanks for watching!
Wow sorry to hear that.. My 05 tahoe runs on electronic throttle body.. Not cable..thanks for the information about ebay
No problem it's definitely not all all of ebay. Just have to be careful
I’ve been contemplating this myself (buying from eBay) Good to know ✊🏼 thanks for the video
You got scammed ….buyer beware as with anything used ….this can happen in person too blaming the platform …idk can’t fully support that
That sucks bro fingers cross that they contact you back so they can work something up with you keep you head up 👍🏼👍🏼💯
Thanks man! Thanks for watching!
You say your only one state away,,if I was you I would be driving that one state to get some self satisfaction,,2400 hundred dollars is a good amount of money,, make that trip
Damn that sucks man! Hope you’re able to find some resolution if not putting that in another project would be good too.
Yea maybe it's just an excuse for another project!
You might be able to run through your creditor and get them involved, isn't illegal to send the incorrect product as a company and not amend it?
It is on ebay, especially with paypal
That's what I was thinking
I'm going to give ebay another call. If anything just to report the seller as a potential issue
@@JovaniDanteGriego set aside 4 hour's for the call. 2 for ebay, 2 for PayPal
That’s f***ed up & thank you for your advice, im doing my 1st ls swap & im looking on eBay 💯💪🏻
“Haven’t really worked on it but it’s there” Well that sums up both of my project cars😂
😂 the realest thing I've ever said
Makes me scared to buy an engine for my CR-V on eBay.
Saw this video says its one year ago...you probably have figured it out by now what your going to do or done. From watching this, I would say rebuild your original engine and find out what happen.
I know this might sound crazy.. its a state away load it up take it back yourself few hours of your time .. I'd say worth it .. I know skum bags but when you show up you just might get what you want ..
Time to go EV lil sir. EV swap doesn't look too bad, check it out. Thinking about converting the Infiniti.
I'd like to do one for fun one day
Thank he got screwed its not right it happened to me before on fleabay with item I sold so the guy got item for free and his money-back so buyers beware and sellers
Dam that's fucked up!! Hopefully you'll get it resolved.
I'll make it work!
Oh hell no. For $2400 and the wrong engine I would put it in my truck, drive to Texas, and show up at their door step in person. And if they give you shit tell them that they can fix it or face Federal Business Fraud charges because that shit crossed state line.
I've considered it 😂
@@JovaniDanteGriego You wont do it... NO BALLS.... and film it too. I wanna see it go down.
Federal trade commission
That’s the good thing about a bank because thy will go after them & give u yo money back u will get yo money back
Should have put the company name in the video so ppl searching for feedback would see it.
@@59Gretsch I didn't make it too obvious but I think I did
Finally someone else who's area is ridiculous with LS stuff. Some used parts counter person found TH-cam and decided oh well sell em for 2500, then every other place was like well shit If they're doing it, we will do it, and we won't let people pull their own engines
Yep. Only self pull yard we have is U pull and pay, and that's if it hasn't already been pulled the first hour it was there.
I bought one fairly local from a private seller on marketplace. It was 2,000 for the engine with 78,000 since the dod delete, Brian Toolie cam were done. But he said if I paid full price he would throw in the speed engendering headers and stainless less exhaust with flow master 40 series. So hopefully I came out ahead. He also threw in the cold air intake from speed engendering 14:01 and plug wires for the header Instal so they don’t melt the stock ones
Did the seller put their little "seals" on the engine. The metal things they use to mark it... They generally stick them on the side of the block and the back if the heads. Wouldn't that be proof that it came from them?
Also your credit card company should he able to help you out. Just dispute the charge.
I didn't see any, but I called my card company and they won't do it since it's past 90 days
@@JovaniDanteGriego Bummer, sorry to hear it man. Thanks for sharing your experience though!
Damn bro sorry you went through this!
It's all good man!
This is a 250 dollar engine at any pick and pull lol
Oh for sure lol I know
you could of rebuilt the engine for less than that and save you some cash
Bummer.
Are there any yards close by like The Driveway Engineer uses??
No mine only ever get older 80s and 90s cara
Should have just bought a ls crate
Thanks for the advice. I'm looking for a 2007 yukon denali engine and I check so many pages o links , so on the future I go buy for powertrain products Inc in the page they give you 7 years of guaranteed of engines , transmission , so many products good prices and they've TH-cam videos how to test each engine and what they send you, what parts and whatever you want... what are your thing??
How much was it?
That’s fucked up. You should have driven down there and got either all your money back or your motor. I’m from Oakland ca and we don’t play that shit out here.somebody would have had to pay for that .so sorry that happened to you bro
Thanks man it's all good
I know we're not to go for used Auto parts. Thanks
So at the end of the day lesson learned, and check your packages especially a 2500 dollar one 😮😮😮😅😅😅
Ooooh yea 😂
Thats a lifter, rod knock is twice that fast.
This is exactly what im worried abt ordering a motor
Just do alot of research on who you order from. And don't be afraid to refuse it for any reason
It cost around 150 to ship an engine
I’ve got the exact motor you need bro. Out of a 2007 Yukon. 8th digit is 0
How much and where at?
14:02 Man I'm buying a engine now I have not seen it not payed off yet I think I will ask to see it next payment time😢
Yea do not buy one without seeing it, also take a 22mm socket and wrench and turn it over
i’m late but you could of just pulled your engine and rebuilt it for all that 🤣
I know right!
Yeah, I tend to verify by the pictures on the listing. That's pretty sketchy that they put up pictures and stats of one engine and then have another junk yard drop ship a completely different engine.
No matter how much benefit of the doubt you give, that seems like bad practice... If it were a freak accident one off, they'd be more eager to make it right...
That's my thoughts as well. But unfortunately my card won't charge back after 90 days. The only route I have now would be a legal one but I don't really want to deal with it. I'll make my money back with the engine somehow
I don’t want to be that guy but you should have checked it when it first got delivered
I acknowledged that
Damm sorry bro that sucks..I would have had the engine installed before the return policy expired. Cant believe you didnt even look at it
shout these moochers out !
Dam that sucks all the way
Believe me I know exactly where you're coming from Dude. You trust people enough to comfortably know that you've got what you want 'secured', safely at your home, and you can then work on it at your leisure, ONLY to find...
Hey bro just ran across your video and I wouldn’t say you messed up. That company you bought the engine from is totally the blame.
Thanks man. I just learned my lesson to reject freight and inspect it while the driver is still here.
@@JovaniDanteGriego I’ve subscribed to your channel and I have plans of doing my first LS swap this summer in my 76 shortwide c10
@@Demastrmind hell yea man good luck with it!
Get the BBB involve.
Live and learn.
Gen 1 or 2 LS has cable throttle body thats a bummer, even 03 has electronic throttle body.
There is no gen 1 or 2 you have gen 3 and 4 and 5(LT) dbc was until around 02 on most LS engines then only a few vans and commerical vehicles kept it past that
@@JovaniDanteGriego yep you are right i just googled it gen 3 was 99-07, i had a 2000 silverado with a 4.8 vortec same platform "LS" it had a cable TB, then i had an 03 6.0 with electronic TB also turns out to be Gen 3, so gen 3 apparently had both cable and then later electronic TB's
Best advice I give my customers when they want engines or parts for swaps is buy a whole car. Junk or not, high Mile whatever. Grab a crashed vehicle.
I thought about buying a turbo 350 or a turbo 400 from Ebay . I am afraid to get bamboozled .
Try to find one local of possible, or at least within a few hours drive, some ebay sellers allow local pickup
@@JovaniDanteGriego ok cool thanks for your help. I too also live in New Mexico.
I bought a used LM7 from a guy up in Lone Butte off of EBay Marketplace. Went out and looked at it and paid for it. The guy dropped it off at my house the next day, and when I got around to looking at it I found out that it was a different engine and one cylinder is full of water. He won't respond to phone calls or emails anymore. So I feel your pain. I'm in Santa Fe, if you still have, and want to get rid of that LM7 let me know as I might be in the market for one to continue the swap into a '65 El Camino.
That sucks to hear man. I sold that engine I had for a loss. But live and learn right
Yessir! I finally got it up and on a stand and found out it turns over. It’s a “drive-by-wire” and I don’t know what year it is. Could you sometime do a video about how to tell what year and what engine you might have? I used a bore scope, and it does have dishes pistons, so I know it’s a 5.3, but not much else.
@@markmiller1857 it's going to be a 2002-2006
That sucks!
Thanks bro
Sorry u got screwed 😢
I'm definitely gonna inspect unit upon arrival
Dam i hate that and you make it work awmd get a blessing
Thank you!
I understand that this comment is late but before anything strip off the plastic while the delivery guy is still there waiting for a signature look it over and say no its not correct take it back.
You have to pull the ticking engine anyways. Not sure why you paid $2500 for a new one. Could have rebuilt the old one like new for half that.
Because sometimes it's easier to drop a know good running engine in. It's called a core and shops do it all the time. Plus I needed up rebuilding it blmyself because there are enough good shops in my area and that takes a lot of time
sorry bro i got screwed on ebay too seller said shoes was new i wore once soles fell off they wouldnt even let me leave negative feedback
Some ppl are truly pathetic arn't they? 😂 Glad the truth prevailed lol
had a similr prblem pull va;ve cover ,sounds like pushrod hammered the rocker
call them again an tell them you goint to bring the engine your sef if you really want that engine or take them to court
Hey Bubba, what i hear is a collapsed lifter, its a 2 hour fix.
It was definitely rod knock. I've done plenty of afm deletes
@@JovaniDanteGriego Did ya check? virtually every dod engine i see has that same knock. not trying to be a know it all. just hate to see guys get hosed like that is all man. good luck Brother.
Yea, I ended up rebuilding this engine instead of buying a used one. Crank was thrashed. Had to buy a crank
WOW!!!! What a bunch of shit!!!! Sorry man!! I would put out their name for all of your subscribers to boycott these guys. If they were a GOOD COMPANY, they should have manned up and taken care of it to make it RIGHT. Thanks for the heads up...
No problem man. Thanks for watching!
Thanks brother, for the heads up. There's no joke in the fact that there are predaters out there.
Wouldn't it be great if even 1/2 of people out there just decided to do the right thing.
I'm 2k into a Jeep it spun a rod bearing.
Now trying to decide what's what.
PLEASE DP YOUR HOMEWORK WITH ALL LS SWAPS. AND ANY MOTOR SWAP.

Quien no checa su engine right away🤭☺
Cuz I'm a stupido 😂
Keep the engine use the shipping price instead and buy a engine from a yard around you
Never buy ebay just get one built saves troubles
Never ever buy an engine from Ebay , period
This guys has some nerv to say he does this all the time but cant make sure it’s the right vin number before dropping 2500 on an engine
I think the company has a lot of nerve sending me a 1999 engine when i paid $2500 for a engine that was listed as being from a 2008 CHEVY TAHOE. I have way more knowledge than the average joe, and they would've also been fucked in the same way. once the delivery truck leaves theres not much you can do. A good company would have worked to fix the issue if they gave a damn about their reputation
dam bro sucks......but i see Legacy
🤘 getting parts for it as we speak
@@JovaniDanteGriego BAD ASS BRO

The lesson is.....NEVER BUY SOMETHING ON E BAY...PERIOD!...PROBLEM SOLVED.
That's not true. I buy 90% of my parts on ebay. Maybe something this expensive be more wary and be sure to be within the return period
@@JovaniDanteGriego i mean primarily used stuff...but you know ive never been taken buying used anything on line...why?...because i dont do it.

Its ok. I ended up selling the engine for 1000 just to recoup some cash. Hopefully this video will hurt them more than a few thousands dollars would in the long run
Yeah the LS world can be a bit different with all the trends behind it and people just trying to make a buck with these engines.

id just file a credit card dispute to put that shit on hold lol
Tried. The bank wouldn't
collapsed lifter swap em and send it
Yea I'm going to yank it out and just do bearings and all that. I should've done it from the start.
Wouldn't you be able to sue them for selling you a counterfeit item?
Heres a definition from a website. Counterfeit merchandise involves manufacturing goods, usually inferior to the original, and selling them using the brand name without the owner’s permission to defraud and deceive.
I've talked to a lawyer but the hassle might not be worth it
@@JovaniDanteGriego man that’s rough.. we’ll I hope your able to make the most of it then. And hey thank you for the video
