So I built my first LS, I'm looking to put it in my 81 firebird but first I want to start it on a stand. How do I get the starter to start if both of those wires go on the same post
Get a cheap lawn mower or universal ignition switch, wire it correctly to battery, than run a wire from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid. It works the same way in a car
The reason they did not use the same power wire to feed the ignition relay and fuel pump is because you should have a fused power source for the fuel pump
Real quick note - On the fuel pump relay, you mentioned that the ECU probably sends about 5v to the relay on the green wire so that the relay will send the full 12v out to the fuel pump on the red wire. The idea here is correct but instead of different volts it is amps that are different. The relay's electro-magnet draws a small amp load of current to operate so the green 12v wire is a smaller gauge since it is only handling the small amp load; however, the fuel pump pulls a much larger amp load of 12v power when it is running. Because of this, the 12v red feed wire to the pump must be a larger gauge to handle the larger 12v amp load. Being able to control devices that draw a lot of current through the use of small gauge switch wires is one of the main uses for relays.

Thanks for the great video Jovani, I have the China CNCH-3250 harness for my LQ4 swap and it works 100%, but there's something that I can't wrap my head around. Everyone mentions connecting both positive lugs onto the + starter terminal. My harness came with a large and small ring lug in the lead that goes to the starter, so I connected the large ring to the starter positive (batt+) and the smaller ring to starter solenoid trigger. That small ring is wired directly to the starter relay in the CNCH fusebox that came with the harness (I traced it back), so it makes sense that you are supposed to connect your old starter wire from your key to that relay, and then that triggers the starter, or am I missing something here?
I think typically in older vehicles there is a wire going from the key switch directly to the starter. I can't remember now but I believe both should go to the positive side of the starter. That one going to the solenoid would only get power when it's cranking. But maybe they changed the wiring on it. I've heard some of the newer ones just don't work so it could be a manufacturing thing

@@JovaniDanteGriego yes, i did put back the old harness and it works fine, dont know what the problem could be
@@RICARDOlOPEZ-hj8oc check your grounds. The stock harness is very well built with good strand wire. The cheaper one obviously isn't as high quality. So a ground issue may not be as prevalent using the stock harness. But can show using the cheaper wiring. If that doesn't work send it back. Alot of people aren't having as good of luck they may be getting made in a different factory, etc. LSX specialties is a place to get good quality harness for not too much more. Tell them I sent you
i got same harness installed but my starter is not engaging
This harness doesn't use a starter wire. That should be coming from your vehicle harness
Do you know if the 4l80 and 4l60 connectors are the same? And is there anything I would have to do in the ecu when switch to 4l80 with an ecu that came on a 4l60 truck?
I'm pretty sure they are the same plugs but the pinning of the wires is different on the plug. If you do a search on 4l60 to 4l80 swap you should get some info there's also some programming in the ecu but not sure exactly since I haven't done one yet
@@JovaniDanteGriego thanks for the info I need a 4l80 to adapt to my np205. But I got a truck with a 5.3 and 4l60 for a price I couldn’t say no to. I will definitely look into it more.

Hey man I been wanting to swap my 2016 Silverado to the gen 4 5.3 it’s a 4.3 v6 so I was wondering what all I needed to change I’ve learning a lot from you but im just unsure what all I need to do
I honestly think the harnesses and ecus are identical but don't quote me. You would just have to reprogram the ecu with a 5.3 flash
@@JovaniDanteGriego good to know if so that’ll save me a lot of time 😳
What about the oil pressure sensor? Mine doesn't have a plug for it?
Not needed
I just bought one off eBay for my 06 Impala SS I hope this is compatible
Hmm. Well this is a standalone harness. Yours is a factory harness. So it's not going to tie into the factory fuse box at all
@@JovaniDanteGriegooh ok should I cancel this order and look up factory harnesses?
I have no idea what you are trying to do. But this harness probably ain't it
Wow!
This was great! Thank you
Thanks for watching!
Can post a link to which harness you ordered? I have a 5.3 drive by wire with a 4l60 but not sure which harness to order.
Are you going to stay drive by wire?
@@JovaniDanteGriego yes I am.

Great vid man this helped so much!
Thanks glad it helped!
What can u say about the quality on the actual wires of the harness?
They are average. About 18 gauge. Nothing fancy
I have a similar engine ls3, I did the electrics as you have in the video. We programmed the computer and turned off the "vats system". Unfortunately, the engine did not start. High voltage comes to the spark plugs, but no impulse comes to the injectors. Maybe you can advise me what could be the reason. Diagnostics shows me the error P0315. The sensor is working. Thank you very much in advance
Which harness are you using? Can you test continuity from the crank sensor to the corresponding ecu pins
Question??? What about o2 sensors....? I bought new o2 sensors and it throwing "no o2 sensors activity".. is that short in eBay harness or something else? ..any info is helping....thxs

Where can I contact you I am having issues figuring out the fuel pump relay stuff
Thanks so much this is a blessing
So I purchased one of these harnesses myself, all grounds are good, connections etc, it seems like the passenger side is only running, the header gets hot but driver side doesn’t, and it’s letting out an extreme backfire through the driver side. Did a compression test, all cylinders were in range, I’m getting fuel and fire but it’s just so strange.
Check power to your coil connector the big white one
Or if you want, return the harness and speak to Andy at lsxspecialties. They are a big more but high quality. Tell him I sent you

@@MrGto05 hey man! That's what I'm here for!
I mention you in my last video. Hope that’s ok. :)
any help on obd port not reading?
Power ground and data. Verify power and ground on the plug. And then verify your data is going to the proper pin on your ECU
have constant power to pin 16, grounds to 4&5, and signal to pin 58

I’m using a standalone harness for an ls1 and I can’t get spark. I have rpm signal, injector signal but no spark to start the engine. Anyone had an issue like this? Also, there is ground and positive at the coil harness as well as constant 12v on the pink wire on the coil harness. I’m at a loss right now. Any help is appreciated!
@@javfernandez4695 I'd say check grounds, once I had to rewire the ground in a cheap harness, there's differences in some setups for o2 sensors and it can effect the way things are grounded. Sometimes it's best to add your own ground
The big ground near the cam sensor is in and so is the one for the ecu, the two red wires with the ring terminals are on battery posititive. I can get the engine to turn over, activate fuel pump and make the injectors spray but I can’t for the life of me get any spark.
@javfernandez4695 you have vats deleted right?
@@JovaniDanteGriegoyes, idk if it would cut spark though if it was activated. I always thought it would cut injectors from firing if it wasn’t.

My eBay harness didn’t come with the oil pressure sensor or the evap sensor, what can I do?
You don't use those on a swap. Or at least most people don't. Evap gets deleted usually. Also do you mean oil level sensor? The one on the oil pan?
@@JovaniDanteGriego thanks for the reply! Good to know, and about the oil pressure sensor it’s behind the intake manifold. The oil level sensor on the pan didn’t come with the kit either, I’m guessing it’s also not needed?
