Not many can make a 90.000 capacity Wembley Stadium feel like an intimate little gig. Uncle Dave is one.
he is a horrible singer live ...his pitch is all over the place. overrated to the max.
@@sixslinger9951 How many times has your band sold out Wembley Stadium? At least it's raw and real, not backtracked and auto tuned like the garbage all the pop "stars" put out today.
@@sixslinger9951Oh, no! Vocalists have pitch issues?! The humanity! I’ve seen the Foo’s a handful of times and Dave has had excellent pitch and energy. A lot of vocalists go through pitch issues. It happens.
@@sixslinger9951 I'll take Dave over perfect pitch any day of the week. He earned those cracks though years naw decades of touring and yelling.
@@sixslinger9951 Good thing 'feeling' is more important then being perfect.
One of the saddest stories in music: as a drummer Dave lost his frontman, and as a frontman, Dave lost his drummer.
Check Pat's history
Damn, I never thought about it that way. ❤️❤️❤️😭😭😭
“Breathe out so I can breathe you in.”
One of the best lines the man has ever written.
The studio version of this song is much faster but this performance was special.
The solo version he does on an acoustic guitar and explains the backstory of the song is quite special.
The studio version is faster in the first part, but when Dave joins the band at the end of this live performance, it's a lot faster than the studio recording.
This is the one I'm talking about

"You can sing a song to 85,000 people and they'll sing it back for 85,000 different reasons." -Dave Grohl
It's still haunting to me that Dave Grohl recorded the first Foo Fighters album virtually alone, in the same studio Nirvana recorded their last song...carrying the torch...Everlong. RIP Kurt Cobain and Taylor Hawkins.
Dave is awesome, seems like a down to earth guy who could care less about the fame and BS.
i do it all the time.
Please do check out the studio version of this, it is very different.
Agreed, or a more conventional live version. It might be their best song and this is very much a different arrangement. Very cool, but probably hard to fully appreciate if you aren't familiar with the song first.
I should note that my favorite live version of this is actually the one they played for David Letterman's last show.
That last bit is the way the original studio version sounds. Either way, its an extraordinary song, and definitely one of, if not THE best song they ever did.
I much prefer full throttle versions of the song in the vein of the studio (with none of the lower octave choruses we see in some live versions), to the slowed down variants. The energy is completely lost for me.
@@evenbetterthantherealthing92 Same. It's the same objection I have to people reacting to the various MTV Unplugged performances. They're cool, but they don't accurately represent the energy of the bands.
This presentation was a gift for everyone who knows the original song. You can see that at all times the whole audience is just waiting for the song to "start". There is tension, and there is awe. Usually singers will start a song like that, and then after a verse or two, will fall into the original song. Dave had the insight of teasing everyone during the whole song, and just "release it" at the end, for the finishing chorus.
It does not have the same impact for a first time listener of the song, the hook is different (it can still be a strong hook, but different nonetheless).
One thing you can say about Dave; his main goal on the stage is to have fun. He knows that if he's having fun, everybody is having fun. Great rendition of his own song.
True. As great as the performance is on it own, I think it's more special if you know the regular/full band version.
Great insights. I too was thinking he was just edging them the whole time.
very well said.
My first time hearing it was the last show by Dave Letterman … I was totally hooked by the end of it. It apparently meant a lot to Letterman (the heart surgery thing and all). And I can understand why. In some way, to me at least, that version is the definitive one … with the collage video from all Letterman shows and all.
Great song. Cheers 🍺
If he wasn't a legend before, the night he fell off a stage in Sweden, told the crowd not to leave and he'd be back, went to the hospital, got the brake set and casted, and came back and finished the show from a chair cemented it.
he didn't go to the hospital, he asked a doctor to hold his leg for the rest of the show. He played sitting down, with the doctor just grabbing his leg. He went to the hospital after the show. The dude is a monster. You can search for "Dave reunion with doctor" and you see the interview where he explains the whole thing. Amazing times.
I saw him on the broken leg tour! He had an awesome throne lol
He IS the 90s grunge sound. Literally. RIP Taylor. ❤
RIP Taylor.
they are not grunge
@@markvanderstelt8999 It's post-grunge, but also probably the main influence that transitioned grunge into post-grunge in the mainstream so pretty fair to just say "they're grunge" and leave it at that. Both genres have been dormant for decades now, why are we still gatekeeping terms?
@@TheSquareOnes they are a good Rock Band just Because you think you are a Expert and want Everyone to Agree With You Sorry I Beg To Differ .
@@markvanderstelt8999 What?
Legends say, Dave Grohl is chewing the same gum since 1991 :)
4:08 That's Dave's thing. Just straight good rock and roll, no special effects, no messing with anything, he's not concerned about perfection as he believes rock should be imperfect, he even records/makes everything on an old analog music board from the 70's. He's just all about pure rock and roll. As a side note the first Foo Fighters album there was no band, Dave recorded the vocals and played all the instruments himself and recorded them separately and mixed them together. Not many have done this and it was a huge album he put together the band afterwards, I know Prince did this as well and Prince loved the Foo Fighters and one of Dave's life highlights he said was when Prince called him and asked if he could play a Foo Fighters song during Princes Super Bowl half time show. Prince also allowed Foo Fighters to cover his song Darling Nikki which is rare for Prince to allow anyone to cover his songs.
I love their Darling Nikki cover. Part of the reason Dave isn't the greatest live singer is all the energy he uses while playing. All that jumping while singing makes it kinda hard.
Not trying to be pedantic, just historically correct. The band recorded the first album. Dave didn't like the product so he re-did it all himself.
I really enjoy your reactions.
Dave Grohl is a national treasure. A talented musician with an incredible career…and awesome stories to go with it. Having to deal with not 1, but 2 intense band tragedies and survive in the music business. I’ve listened to his audio book several times!
A father of 3 girls (each of whom you can tell he adores although I’m sure they don’t appreciate his coolness) and still tours with his mom. He is also quite charitable, often cooking in public (BBQ) and giving food away. A true music ambassador and all-around great person..
Times Like These (a few, good emotional, live versions around), The Pretender, Monkey wrench, Learn To Fly, etc… He also does a mean Baker Street cover!
I cried when I heard/saw this the first time. It's such a warm hug to the fans.
For those who haven't experienced a Foo Fighters show in person, please do! You will never regret it! Dave is a fan of music first and going to gigs growing up was meant to be enjoyed for the band and audiences as one. He still brings the same youthful energy to everything he does. There is a reason he is known among his peers as one of the nicest people in the industry.
Dave "honours" his audience. He understands the meaning these songs have to each member of that crowd. That is what is so special about the Foo Fighters. The vibe at those concerts is like you have a friend playing a local gig and you can't imagine not going and supporting them. Never felt anything like it outside of actual local punk and metal bands. Its like everyone knows them...
For sure. You can tell that if he wasn't the front man of the band on stage, he'd be in the crowd screaming himself hoarse. He's such a fan and it influences how he performs his shows.
growing up without giant piles of money also made up very thankful and appreciative that his audience fronts up the hundreds of dosh for tickets to see Him and the fellers do what they love. he understands people sacrifice to see his act.
You’re 100% right. Never been to a show like foo fighters. 3-4 hours of hit after hit, and it all is there for you, the audience. Hope to see them again some day.
This moment at Wembley might be "peak Foo". They were at the height of the band and it's so well captured in this video. Dave is definitely a restless and creative intellect -- it seems like he starts a new project in wildly different areas every couple of weeks.
I enjoy this live version as much as the recording, because you get an extended song that shows the musicianship of Dave and the band, which is great to see!
I feel like the electric and acousic versions of this song are so different and yet the same at the same time! this combines them so well.
Foo Fighter starter kit ...Learning to Fly video, The Pretender video, My Hero live tribute to Taylor Hawkins
Times Like These is my favorite Foo Fighters' song. The acoustic version is spectacular.
+1
I was at that show. It was awesome. I saw them 2 weeks ago at Villa park also, both shows were excellent!
Dave is a cherished relic of that era. He is master of playing in any era though. Love the enthusiasm you have for him!!! He rocks...…check out more from him.
And he's an even better drummer. Dave Grohl is so talented and emotionally able to connect with people, it's crazy. If you watch any old Nirvana videos, he looks like a little kid on drums. Amazing how far he has come.
The Foo Fighters performing “Times Like These” on SNL was epic.
He just wasn't in foo fighters, he is FOO FIGHTERS, he basically did played all the instruments and did the vocals when foo fighters was created
Absolute must is the official video for “Learn To Fly” with a couple of special guest cameos 😁
Other great Foo’s songs to check out include: Times Like These, The Pretender, Come Back & Walk
Times Like These is my favorite song hands down. Check out Glastonbury 2017. 🎶🤗🎵
I never want it to end either! Fortunate enough to see Foo Fighters twice, and I really had a blast! I knew every song they sang, and they also did a lot of covers, which were also great. At the end the audience kept cheering, trying to get the band to return for aother encore, for well over 30 minutes. I listened to all my Foo Fighters music for weeks before coming off that high, that rush, the feeling of emotion they carried the entire audience through. I've been going to concerts since I was 13, and I am now 60. I used to work as a local stagehand for major tours, also concert security, as well as just working for local bands early on in life. Easily top 3 of any concert I have ever seen. Dave Grohl is so great, talented, gets involved with so many other artists and bands, too many to list. Never a dull moment. Its like they set out to make each show the best show you will ever see, and make it so much better than the last.
Dave Grohl once accidently fell off stage, broke his leg, and got the crew to get him setup to finish playing a concert in Gottenburg, Sweden. Sheer will power to overcome the pain he must have been going through. He went back after he recovered and did another show for them.
Saw them twice, and both were phenomenal shows! “Aurora” and “Walking After You” are particularly awesome
🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥🔥🔥 I love this version of the Foo Fighters Everlong,, great, great choice, wonderful reaction,,, gave me goosebumps as well🤘🏼🔥🤘🏼
Saw them live last month and they were amazing. Your next foo song should be The Pretender or Monkey Wrench.
Honestly she could pick anything off the first few albums. Their more recent music is slept on but it’s all great.
Same concert, "Best Of You", hell of a performance
Anyone could feel like they could walk into a Karoake bar and sing his songs.. his range doesn't seem crazy... but it's the strength of his personality behind it that is just insane.. he is ridiculously magnetic and he does it effortlessly.. with a self depracating sense of humour that is so relatable.. he is so humble in his personal life as well. Just an amazing person.. and one of the most influential musicians ever.... (have seen foo fighters live.. just amazing.. bucketlist highlight)
I have been lucky enough to see them three times in concert. 2013, 2021, and last year at the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert in LA. Every single show has been incredible. I also have tickets for them next month and am incredibly excited.
I just can’t make myself turn off your vids! You are SUCH a joyful blessing to watch! Change N.O.T.H.I.N.G. About how you do what we get to see you do! Have yet to watch the vids you are watching….eyes are always on you!🎉🎉🎉🎉🤗
I really like this lady , she's such a beautiful genuine soul 😍 ❤
The best thing about seeing the Foo's live is each show is different. Each song is different from the studio. Dave wants everyone involved and feeling like they are part of the band. Always a crazy experience to see them live. You'll laugh almost as much as you sing along. However, it doesn't always make the best reaction because you really don't know what the original sounds like. But this was great. I love the way you understood what the Foo's are all about. Playing live and giving their fans a good show.
I was at this show what an awesome night that was and I was watching them a few weeks ago again London best band live I have ever seen.
The best thing about Dave:
He is truly just a normal dude, super famous, pretty much universally liked, a family man first, rocks on vocals, guitar, drums (good god), just a normal dude.
Was at the OC Fair back in 05 or 06, I'm old so I can't remember exactly. In line to buy a corn on the cob, and I turn around to look at how long the line is. Well hello Mr. Dave f'ing Grohl is right behind me. I did the whole "Big fan" "blah blah blah" thing and he asked me if I had ever been to a show. I told him of course I had. I've seen the Foo in small joints, medium joints, stadiums. He asked me what was my favorite, I told him the medium joints/arenas. He asked why and I told him that the medium joints/arena are big enough to create a shared joy in the music, but not drown it out.
He said "Interesting". Then he asked if I wanted a selfie with him. I told him I left my phone in the car (which I do often) and said it's okay, I don't need a selfie, I have in my possession the greatest camera ever made, my brain, my eyes, my ears.
SO PEOPLE START THE PETITION TO HEAR BETHANY 💝 SING.....BELOW WITH THE VOTES👍
Such a great performer. Their Shadow Dancing as the Dee Gees is epic. Taylor Hawkins on lead vocal and drums is legendary. Love Foo Fighters but the Dee Gees are just epic
They performed it 1000+ times, closing pretty much every show with this song. But it still sounds great, I actually liked it better than the studio version. Dave really knows how to engage a massive, massive crowd. Thanks for the reaction video ! 'Run', 'Pretender', 'MIA' my other favs.
The Best of You, The Pretender, actually any Foo song is 🔥! Great reaction, thank you 🎉
Dave also did some great stuff on drums with Nine Inch Nails as well as Queens of the Stone Age. Ironically, though he started in the Grunge band that created it's own genre, Dave and Foo Fighters have done more than it was asked to; helping to keep the flame of Rock lit.
This is the song that ends almost every gig . "We don't say goodbye, we say Everlong"
And Dave's timing? He's a drummer, and those who've drummed for him will tell you his timing is impeccable. Great all round artist.
Listen to some of the more obscure album tracks "Another Round " , "Razor" or " i should have known"
Great reaction! Your expression and smile are the same as mine the countless times I've watched this.
There are so many more Foo Fighters songs to listen to. The Pretender is great...Etc etc etc. Plus, Dave is just a terrific human being.
What a fantastic analysis, this is so different from the studio version but still showcases his vocal skills so well. Hope you listen to more from the Foo Fighters! Dave's vocals are standout in every era of the band
Dave has a beautiful voice. He doesn’t need to scream as much as he does to rock the house.
Dave's videos are great. Everlong, The Pretender, Learn To Fly, My Hero. Watch those for sure.
You must see my hero playing with Shawn Hawkings on the drums, Shawn is son of Taylor, Drummer of Foo Fighter who passed away a couple years ago, here you will get goosebumps. Shawn was almost a child in that performance.
Shane
Hawkins.
You'll get more than goosebumps watching that performance, it'll make you flat out cry, ESPECIALLY seeing as Shane played this song as a TRIBUTE to his recently passed away father, and this young teenager ABSOLUTELY ROCKED IT OUT. FRICKING PHENOMENAL
Shawn Hawkings 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
One of the few songs that makes me so so happy but also somehow gets me in tears every time. It’s like being nostalgic for all the good memories but grieving the bad ones at the same time.
And live…like that…I saw them last month and during this song, I just stood there and let it wash over me. Maybe I am overly emotional about this, but to me… this song is perfect. The whole damn album is perfect. February Stars. Hey, Johnny Park! Just 🖤🖤
You smile and giggle at the same exact places i do, and I'm sure so many people out there do. Crazy how a song can make us all react so similarly without knowing each other is reacting. I skipped work and got fired to see Foo Fighters, 100% worth it lol
This version of Everlong is special to Foo Fighters fans who are already intimately familiar with the album version. I think it may not be the best intro to Foo Fighters/Dave Grohl, really.
Dave is a masterful musician and even better human being. He gives 100% every time he steps up to the microphone. This performance was from one of the greatest live shows ever recorded, it's worth a watch. However, I recommend the music video for "The Pretender" next. Brilliant songwriting, performance, and video.
You mentioned listening to the studio version afterwards. It would have been so perfect if you just made it like a 'double feature'. It would have been awesome to see you realize how differently it was recorded. But everybody loves Dave because he's so great and if you keep watching their live performances, you'll keep smiling. Especially if you watch some of the ones where he brings audience members up to play with them. He does that ALOT.
Nice. For giggles, check out the video of Foo Fighters doing this song at the LA forum with an 11yo Nandi Bushell guesting on drums...and absolutely crushing it. It's a hoot - and it rocks.
Great performance by Dave making a stadium show seem intimate but the studio version of this will always be the best.
Foos are absolutely a great preformance. You will leave being haapy and exhausted.... he gives you your monies worth every show. Taylor was a great part of the show.... id like to see Josh and how he brings his touch into the Foos.
Best of You same concert was epic
Epic is the correct word👍
Great choice for a first song by them. Also, his control of the crowd is amazing.
David Grohl is one of the best entertainers, musicians, and singers. Foo Fighters is one of the most wholesome bands too. All of his concerts are a surprise and a treat.
He recorded every part for this album. A remarkale feat, considering its quality and popularity
My favourite rock band!
This show meant everything to him, he wrote about it in his book saying it was all he could think about for the six months leading up to it.
Dave does have impressive vocals to offer, you'd probably find interest in songs like Best of You, Breakout, or Monkey Wrench. Later on I would try something on the acoustic side of In Your Honor, like On The Mend (specifically live in Hollywood 2006).
The power of performance & stage presence regardless of the individual voice & singing abilities. Quite powerful. He's/they got it.
I love how when one time they didn't perform this in a show on their tour people complained afterwards so much that the next show was all only this song.
I love that whole concert from Wembley. Sames on the goosebumps. Every single time.
His tempo, vocalization & instrumentation on this version is so all over the place (I think because he knows how involved the crowd wants to be with his signature song), that I think this might be a tougher version to analyze than others out there. The hardcore album rock version is good, but for my money the acoustic-only rendition he famously did on the Howard Stern radio show is truly mind-blowingly inspired. It was the very first time he ever tried playing it acoustically.
I would love to see you react to something else from Foo Fighters, maybe The Pretender? That shows his range pretty well.
To me, Dave Grohl is the Keanu Reeves of music, the Tony Hawk of music. Our favorit uncle.
The Holy Trinity - Dave Grohl, Tony Hawk and Keanu Reeves
Well theres a three piece band that needs to be realized!
The build... EVERYONE knows what's coming and how epic it's going to be... and that's why it works so well!
13:52 Your "Ohhhh I see what's happening" look is the absolute best
Love your reactions and insight.
She MUST review more of that epic Wembley show. Every song is unreal.
I’ve never been a fan of Nirvana nor Foo Fighters, but I am a big fan of Dave Grohl. He seems like the coolest dude in the world and would be a great friend.
He can sing and play anything capable of making a good sound
DG is just unstoppable. Such a great showman.
I'm going to say I love the original. I also love this and other live versions. Just a counter point to those who were less than enthusiastic about this performance. Holy crap time flies!
Thank you for this reaction. You are my 18 minutes of happytime on internet. Cheers from a finn in Sweden ❤
Yes you'll love the studio version, and please check out The Pretender. I love The Foo Fighters
i know a lot of woman who have fallen in love with dave grohl, but its a treat watching it in real time
Watch his and his mom's docuseries From Cradle to Stage about a number of various megastars and their moms and the relationships they had through the adolescent-youth-young adult trajectory of becoming a music star. Brandi Carlisle, Tom Morello, Geddy Lee, etc.
Dave Grohl is an incredible human being. Besides Nirvana and the Foo Fighters, he has been in a couple of other bands, and played drums on a ton of other peoples music. I see lots of good recommendations here already, but I will second The Pretender, as well as My Hero at the Taylor Hawkins Tribute. Taylor was the drummer for Foo Fighters until he passed away in 2022. This show was a tribute to him, and his son Shane played drums on My Hero. It's a must see.
Dave played the devil in the Pick of Destiny movie also in Tenacious D music video for the song Tribute.
Tenacious D was also in Foo Fighters - Learn to Fly Video
Dave also played drums on their studio albums!
I love him! List to acoustic version of Times Like These. His voice is INCREDIBLE!
Dave and his daughter Violet’s duet Show Me How on the Foo’s latest album is well worth checking out. Violet is certainly following in her dad’s footsteps!
Nausea
Check "Times like these - acoustic version" (very different from the studio version). Here Dave also plays all the instruments and do the chorus too. In my opinion one of the deepest, most intimate songs of him.
Would love to see/hear you discovering Best of You as your next FF/Dave Grohl exploration.
Great reaction Bethany. Such a great song and an influential song. When you were saying I heard the name David Grohl (those of us that have known his music know he goes by Dave) before, maybe from a movie..... I was like nooooo.... Nirvana! That was fun to watch.
The girl he's singing about is Louise Post of the band Veruca Salt, they were together at that time... and she sang background on the album version. I met her around a year ago on her first solo tour, she confirmed these points... cheers! 🤘🎶
You should check out the official music video for the song "The Pretender". Great song and the video just amplifies it perfectly.
The Pretender would be a great next reaction from the Foo Fighters.
The Pretender (official video) is a great one to check out.
"Walk in the Shadows" by Queensryche
Not sure how long this Wembley show was, but usually The Foo Fighters play for 2.5-3 hours, and this is one of the more gentle tracks to close the gig .. so his already imperfect (by the way, I love the Foo's and Dave Grohl) singing voice has taken a hammering by this time
I feel like I have grown up with and know Dave even though we've never met. I was on tour the only time that Foos played my little punk club in Portland OR and he joined Nirvana after they had gotten big enough that I wasn't seeing them anymore. But his songwriting comes from the same scene and the same place and the same world that I was in and it just hits home every time. I'm so happy for their success and their longevity. RIP Taylor. I saw Alanis Morrissette in a tiny club the week she hit number one and Taylor Hawkins was a show stealer on a stage of 'em. The concert was WILD energy but all I could talk about after was the drummer. He was the perfect foil for Dave and I can't even begin to imagine the loss. The band handled it so well, so respectfully, and the process of bringing Josh in was done the only way it could be. Class. The video of Shane drumming in place of his dad makes me cry just thinking about it.
Dave Grohl's stamina on stage is legendary. This was on their Skin & Bones tour. I saw this leg of the tour in KC in 2008, he opened the show by telling the audience to get ready for a long show becuase, "As my ex-wives can attest, I can go all night long", They proceeded to do a full set on the main stage - then an acoustic set on the small stage (lowered down at the end of the catwalk), and then back to the main to finish out the set and do a 30 min encore. This is usually their closer song, so this is most likely coming at the end of a 3 hour long show, or just before the encore, after he has sung and screamed all night long.
The Pretender. Great Foo Fighters song
You picked the right concert, Wembley, but the song you wanted was the finale, Best of You!! You could also search the Wembley show for the 2 songs they were accompanied by Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones. Dave knocks it out of the park singing Zeppelin's Ramble On!!!
No joke, I logged on today to watch this very performance as it always perks me up and here's you reacting to it! Dave is just such a sincere dude who really appreciates the way music connects people. It's how he's able to captivate this massive audience so easily. You can tell he's having a blast and it's exactly how he was both times I saw them live.
Highly recommend the official video for The Pretender as your first studio song from these guys. Great song with high quality production and a fantastic video. You can't go wrong though with the Foo's. Finally, anyone who recommends you react to Alter Bridge is smart and attractive and you should listen to them :D
You NEED to react to their song "The Pretender". The music video. He literally blew out his voice singing it and that's the take they kept. It's amazing!
The Pretender music video first... then "My Hero" at the tribute to their deceased drummer Taylor Hawkins featuring his son Shane Hawkins on drums... DARE you to get through it without crying!!
