I wouldn't even believe the story since it's coming from Moyse, the most unreliable source of all. Dude was a weirdo and hadn't spoken a single word japanese when he was translating. Someone had to gave him an english script and he translated it into german. I remember back his Links Awakening translation with the sexual jokes revolving around the mermaid and his goofy Secret of Mana translation. He was working at Nintendo Germany in the 90s, no serious soul would hire this guy today for another translation/adaption. Saying that, Secret of Mana and Links Awakening were newly translated a while back. Dude still has it's fans today here but I do not buy the sex shop story. That was most likely something he dreamt of a night before and using that as a base for his Links Awakening translation.

@@AniMariBro In the manga, Link buys Volvagia and sets him free. They become good friends and during the 7 years Link is asleep, Ganondorf corrupts the Dragon forcing Link to have to kill him. The Dragon's final words to Link was calling his name as Link stood there crying.
As for the Navi bit, after Zelda sends Link back to the Child Timeline, Navi tells Link that he was a magnificent hero and that the Forest will be safe with him there to protect it. As she flies away, she tells Link that she loves him, then Link leaves the Temple of Time and meets Zelda, to inform her of the future.

I'm not hating on him for choosing that as his line, but I wish he came up with something more creative. He got a once in a lifetime opportunity to write almost anything he wanted in a Nintendo game and it's just a generic joke about the translator stroking his own ego in the dialogue.

Really? I think it's a really corny storyline and glad they didn't add this idea to the game.
Volvagia is supposed to be a deity and ancestor of Valoo not some pet dragon.
Leon S Kennedy is also based off Leo. Especially Leon’s haircut. RE2 came out in the late 90’s (1998) which of course Leonardo DiCaprio was very popular at that time.
the Deku sounding like "of ass" is also 100% true to Portuguese. as a child, I would giggle at this sometimes.
The best addition on the Mangá is about Saria's Ocarina. Instead of assuming that Link threw it away once he got the Ocarina of Time, it's shown that Ganondorf got it, think it was the relic, then smashed it when he realized he was fooled.
Also Malon explicitly having a crush on Link is adorable

Its also funny to note that the German translator, Moyse, was not the odd one out this time.
In LA, he added some adult humor like a slime yelling "Never without a condom!" When sprinkled with magic powder. And in OoT, he called the combined form of Twinrova "Sexy Hexy". He also named the four carpenters after The Beatles.
Hard to believe such a disgusting degenerate was ever employed by Nintendo of all places.

Also in the manga when Link is crossing the desert he stops at night to get some sleep..the desert wasn’t a normal desert and it rather makes nightmares true..
Link dreams of the Deku tree telling Link that he was the reason for his death and then Link starts crying..soon after Volvagia’s head appears above link..it screams telling Link “It Hurts” and Then it starts tearing up sand over Link while Link is just there crying and saying “that’s not fair”

worker exploitation in the game industry has always been around, and was probably WORSE in the past when nobody knew or cared about it or monitored it outside the industry itself. when japanese gamedevs say they slept at the office when they made your fav 16-bit childhood experiences, u gotta remember that _even EA lets their employees go home for a FEW hours a day..._ these japanese programmers & artists were staying at work 24hours a day for months on end. japanese people are humans too. theres nothing special about their biology that would prevent them from getting PTSD from that. to assume so is the flipside of racism
When I read the manga years ago I cried hard when Volvagia remembered Link before dying.
I prefer the Link’s piercing backstory to be that the Light Sage thought it would look cute so he did it during Link’s 7 year sleep

that manga Volvagia story is pretty interesting, but to believe it as part of the game runs in to the problem of Volvagia being an ancient dragon that was destroyed long ago and revived by good old Ganon. while non-canon, i feel these mangas that try to add story arent too bad as a companion piece when trying to fill in gaps where there is a lack of info.

as a guy who owns the manga in question it was nice to hear about it here I always thought that change with Volvagia was interesting
the volvolgia one is just too out there going directly against what the game tells you. the dragon was a ancient creature, killed long before oot by a hero of the gorons.. though it probably always was evil, it would've been cool if instead it was corrupted long ago and when its resurrected it shrieks in agony and confusion echoing throughout the temple and the chant heard in the original was to soothe its tortured soul or something lol

The story of the fire temple dragon from the manga is really cool, the darkness of the thread would have added some very interesting depth to the game

It's amazing how much background trivia there is to pull from this game. Either Did You Know Gaming really loves Ocarina of Time or there really is a storied history behind its development... Probably both😁
In an audiobook I listened to at one point, it said that Volvagia was Darunia's pet and actually confronted Ganondorf while he chased Zelda and Impa, but supposedly died. I haven't gotten to the fire temple part so I don't know what Link does, and it's most definitely not canon, but it's cool that the author of the book did that.

Nah the manga seemed pretty cliche with Link and Zelda's parents being explained and given backstories. I like the Volvagia idea, but it just makes you feel mean for killing him, just like King Dodongo, the difference is Link was pretty young and naive when he fought the dodongo, but knows better than to kill poor Volvagia as an adult.

The thing that interested me the most was that Titanic was a huge hit in Japan
One precision regarding the French translator that was sacked from Nintendo (Véronique Chantel): she only worked on Link's Awakening. A Link To The Past was translated in French by another person (Sylvie Bomstein).
