I purchased the Presonus E5XT along with the Focusrite Scarlett Solo mk3 and XLR (speakers) to audio jack (Scarlett) cables. I must say, this combination is fantastic and highly recommended. Despite reading some comments about potential noise issues, I personally haven't encountered any such problems with this setup. It offers absolutely fantastic value. These speakers can be easily tuned to your preferences, and from my experience, the bass is excellent when needed, but can also be adjusted down if desired. Brilliant value indeed.

I have both sets and have done numerous A/B testing with them. Let me put it in simple terms for you from a real-life perspective... Rokits run slightly quieter and make music sound more 'HD' and true. Presonus do colour music slightly although admittedly plug-in effects sound more pleasing to the ear, but running noise is still a bit annoying if you sit too close. It worth noting that running noise may have a lot of contributing factors such and cables, power supply, using extension cables, other devices nearby etc. So, In conclusion it really is preference. I have to admit though, these sound test are really well done and the differences are fairly accurate to what you hear on here.
One thing I will say though about the Presonus is that the letter 'S' sounds slightly distorted compared to the Rokits on some tracks. Weird, I know... These differences are very minor though and some might not notice them at all.

    • @DSAUDIOreview

FWIW I have the E5's and they're being returned as we speak. I ordered the G4's. The Presonus have horrible levels of noise after running near but not touching the bunch of cables routed behind my cramped desk. I even upgraded from RCA to XLR and the noise didnt change one bit. Quieter on the XLR's because balanced tends to have less output than unbalanced. IMO, these speakers have ZERO internal filtering for noise. Let's hope the KRK's, as proper studio monitors, do. I think it's ridiculous, that an ancient pair of Logitech X140's as my previous PC speakers had ZERO noise in the same environment.

I don't claim to be as experienced as many here, but to my ears the KRK seem to have a more defined sound stage , a cleaner sound almost after listening for a while ...clinical. Is this the AB v D filtering ? I am on the verge of ordering the Rokit 5 G4 , but that clinical sound and the extra nearly £100 have kept my hands off the card !

I just hooked up a pair of E5 XT's in my vocal booth, and they produce a native white noise that is going to screw with my noise floor, even with no source connected. Digging through forums this is apparently an inherent design flaw up and down their range of monitors. Probably not great for a company designing things for audio pro folk. Seems like this will really hurt their sales over time, and as for mine, they're going back PRONTO. Not sure where to turn next, but I'm on the lookout for something that is silent when sitting idle and does exactly what it's supposed to do with accurate, uncolored playback. Hopefully, with roughly the same price-point and feature-set. Maybe these KRK? Maybe something else...🤷‍♂

I went for the Presonus E5 XT. After using them for about a week, there are sadly some issues.
    1. I started noticing that one of the speakers was rattling with certain high trebble and/or bass (rattles at certain frequencies). Mine are sitting on sound isolation pads so I thought that was very odd. But when I lift the speaker up in the air, the rattling still continues which prompted me to search online. I am not alone with this problem. I read other reports on Amazon and on the Presonus’ forum indicating the rattling comes from a lose cone, and it seems exactly where the noise is originating from on mine. It is a manufacturing defect and there’s nothing one can but to return them. It’s very disappointing as I had been happy with the overall sound.
    2. The second issue, albeit much minor, is on the other speaker. It makes a somewhat loud popping noise when turning the rear power switch from off to on. I read this was a common issue with the previous generation, but the newer XT’s were equipped with a mechanism to avoid this popping noise from happening at start-up. Sadly, this is still happening with one of mine.
I have to say that this has made me lose confidence on the brand. It seems to me that the brand has to address some manufacturing issues at their Chinese plant where these are made. I plan to return these this week and place an order for the KRK 5G4’s. The sound is comparable to Presonus and, most importantly based on all the reviews and response to questions I’ve asked on Amazon and forums, the KRK 5G4’s are solidly built and have proven to be reliable for many over the years.

The top end on the Presonus is just too much for my tastes. I can't say if it's just boosted or extended. In some songs, the top end sounds sweet, and in others it's sibilant and harsh.
That said, I'll take the Rokits. I find them more balanced, overall. I find the midrange more defined on the Rokits too.

@@seanwu7796 I turned the treble down in the E5XT a bit less than full, so closer to -5db, I'd say. This was the point for me where as I was gradually turning down the treble, the sound suddenly clicked in place. Lower than this, I could hear a slight roll-off. Also, I turned down the mids just a hair below unity, like literally the point where the knob starts turning, say around -0.5 db (or even less). To me, this evened out the balance between the lower and upper mids a bit better. Keep in mind though that these are analog tone controls that use variable resistors (aka potentiometers) and the knobs might not react the exact same way on every speaker, so it might be up or down slightly for you.
In the end, I didn't buy the PreSonus, but after setting them up in the way that I just described, they were almost indistinguishable from the Neumann KH 80 DSP's that I bought instead, after an hour long A/B comparison. Those are probably the best measuring speakers you can objectively buy for under $10000, so that says a lot about how good the PreSonus are (with some effort). Set up this way, I would take them over everything else I heard from Focal, Dynaudio, KRK, JBL, iLoud, Mackie, Yamaha etc.

Both of these monitors in this review sound great , although I did feel the KRK had a slightly thinner sound at higher volumes. One other thing not presented is the amplifier. The Presonus has an A/B amplifier and the KRK has a D amplifier which will determine efficiency and heat output.

between the two, which would you recommend for someone who doesn't have audio treatment in the room. Both have features that allow for flexibility in this case i.e. acoustic space for the e5xt and dsp room tuning. Does this feature even matter/make a difference Also, does the krk dsp room tuning allow for one to tune the speaker for mixing and producing and then later, tune it for enjoyable listening or DJing? Or is the range in this matter no large enough and what makes more of a difference here are the drivers/construction/manufacture tuning?
Personally, im a beginner music producer and dj on a student budget looking to purchase my first studio monitors but will also just do regular music listening through them. I'm trying to decide between these two speakers and perhaps the previous e5s as that would be best budget option, but any of the three are acceptable wrt my budget.
    e5 - $139
    e5XT - $194
    krk5g4 - $239
I really like the clarity and audio space of the e5s (both of them) compared to the krks. The krks sound fuller in the mids and based but everything is a bit tighter together (differentiating between the instruments is more difficult). Sometimes the highs in the XTs sounds a bit shrill which is reflected in the freq. graph but this could just be worsened by my headphones and youtube. How does the in person demo compare? Its weird, because I thought the e5s sounded fuller and more balanced across the spectrum compared the XTs but then listening to the XTs in this comparison, the highs dont sound as shrill.
Out of the three, which is best bang for your buck. Which has the best performance over all wrt to music production, and which is the most versatile in general?
Sorry for asking so many questions. I dont have the option to demo any of these myself...
