      Dane H, if you push your transfercase shifter to the left it will lock in cdl. All wheels will spin regardless of slip. Huge difference in traction :)

    • @whateverrandomnumber
      @whateverrandomnumber 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@briansanford4594 not all wheels will spin equally, but both axles. If you lose traction on one wheel from each axle, you're stuck. It only locks the center diff.

    • @briansanford4594

      Guilherme Mauricio That is correct they will not spin equally. But will still help a considerable amount!

    • @harveysmith100

      @@mvilla36 Whilst on road, your centre diff should be unlocked. If you go off road or in snow move the little gear stick to the left it will lock the centre diff, this will send 50% of the power to the front and 50% to the rear regardless of wheels slipping.
      It will give you so much more traction.
      Don't forget to unlock it when returning to hard roads. Failure to do so creates something called transmission wind up which is another subject.

    So what if you can't lock the center difflock?
    i have a D2 1999 & 2000 which has the difflock spigot shaft but no lever to engage it?
    Will the TC always cut in and prevent any damage?
    I hope to at some point install difflock leverage as TC is good for road driving (slippery leaves etc) But hopeless off road even with the right tyres and low tyre pressures.
    And makes a lot of mess due to ABS brakes the spinning wheel to late, their for smooths off the surface.

    I've never known a centre diff to blow in over ten years of land rover ownership and 24 years as a mechanic. If the front output shaft spinning is enough to cause centre diff failure then personally I'd say the wear was already there contributing to the fail rather than it spinning due to the diff lock not being engaged. This probably from lack of maintenance on the owners behalf not checking levels etc.

    • @TheSwordsmon
      @TheSwordsmon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No, if the centre diff is unlocked, and one wheel spins due to poor traction, then the centre diff planetary gears will be spinning at far higher speeds than they were designed for. They won't be able to do that for long before they seize onto their stub shafts. Its not the front (or rear) output shaft spinning that is the problem, it's that the other shaft is NOT spinning, so the differential speed is massively high. That's what cooks the CD gears.

  • @ss3man1
    @ss3man1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Curious as to what discovery 2 owners with no centre diff lock available should do, if what Dave said is true?
    Obviously he knows everything there is to know about the Land Rover drivetrain but surely Land Rover wouldn't have removed the difflock if it could cause a centre diff to fail in 5-10 seconds? I think it is more likely that a wheel suddenly finding traction after spinning quickly would be the cause of the issue.

    Question if you don't mind. I have a 2012 RR Sport, and out of nowhere the other day, the vehicle starting shifting very strangely, usually at a high RPM, and sometimes with significantly delay between gears. However, if I switch to "manual" shifting mode, the shifts seem ok. Any thoughts? We have always had our normal maintenance done at the dealer to the maintenance schedule, 88000 km on the vehicle.

    My D1 R380 just jammed in reverse, then i managed to wiggle the stick and get it out. Then it refused to go into 5th. Then when i got home it slipped into reverse again, so i backed it onto the drive. Then it jammed in reverse again. A week later i'd managed to wiggle it into neutral. Now it's in the back garden 'jammed' between 5th and reverse.

    I have a 2010 Range Rover HSE (full size). I was driving down the road at 65 mph, when I felt a loss of power to all the wheels. Initially I thought the engine died, but once I pulled over I realized the transmission was making a grinding sound. I placed the vehicle in park and could hear a grinding sound in the transmission. I towed the vehicle into the dealer and was told that the transmission and gear box both needed to be replaced as the spline has sheared its teeth.
    This is my 3rd full size Rover (2004, 2006 and 2010) and I never had any problems with any of them. Now this. I don't tow anything or drive off road. I simply drive from home to work, 90 miles a day round trip.
    IS there anything I should ask the dealer? Is there any type of recall or suggested repairs. Im being quoted $11,000.00 to make the necessary repairs. The vehicle is probably worth $22,000.00.
    Any thoughts, suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Ed

      I have 3 4x4:s : Old Chevy Blazer -79, a -94 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2007 Hummer H3. The Blazer with it's front Auburn diff is naturally the best off road.Practically as good is the H3. The Jeep is not as good, but good enough. Now, I know the Jeeps are of bad quality, but trolling is childish. If you guys are honest, even Lada Niva is an example of reliability when compared to Land Rovers and Range Rovers. I have towed several during Finnish Safaris, so I would never ever buy one. I'm sorry, but you guys just have to admit that they are so bad that Aussies will not use them; they need to get back from the Outback. Sorry to be impolite, but you can not go on pretending that LR:s and RR:s are quality products.And that 5-10 seconds stuff is a good reason to not believe anything else of the video. Just one more reason not to trust those cars if one needs to make up things to cover a bad design.

    Sett sensor on oil filter and check engine light always rechecking on start motor if it was reseted by ODB.
    Flout sennsor to oil, dat it should go all out. Tricky sensor for the belt and electronic accelerator to not to go JUMP START DRIVE.
    All senssors rescaning on engine start, so if reset CHECK ENGINE it will come again up on next start.

    I'm getting code p0760 on my range Rover hse. what do you recommend

    • @trailerfitter2
      @trailerfitter2  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      P0760 Possible Causes
      Low transmission fluid level
      Dirty transmission fluid
      Faulty shift solenoid 'C' valve
      Shift solenoid 'C' valve harness or connectors
      Shift solenoid 'C' valve circuit is open or shorted
      The P0760 code is detected when the TCM detects an improper voltage drop when it tries to operate the solenoid valve.
      It could be either a wiring issue of the solenoid. Get wiring diagram, find component and related wires. Check the wiring and go from there.

      +Land Rover Toolbox Videos You have the type of attitude that leads to shit design. The driver puts their foot down a little bit and it breaks the transmission. The car should prevent that from happening. But the mechanic in the video calls it "driver error". Good example of shit British engineering.

    I love how he describes that if you anticipate wheel spin lock the dif or you could destroy it! I've got a better idea. How about you don't buy one of these horrible pieces of shit.
    I'm about to drive my l322 out into the street and light it on fire. My g wagon has 80,000 miles on it and so far the only failure I had was a tail light... And it has a secondary backup so I actually wasn't ever driving without a failed tail light. The rover had a blown head gasket, failed differential, blown out air shocks, overheating transmission, failed alternator. The turd was designed by engineering flunkies. I've never had a bigger piece of junk in my life. You'd be better off buying a 40 year old yugo. It'll be more reliable and probably get better gas mileage.
