    Yep that happened to me. Bang, rev, stop. These are great tutorials by the way. Had a similar issue with a Fairy overdrive in my 109. Splines on input gear and OD main shaft wore away. Again, Bang, grind, stop. But this time I could remove the OD, refit the pick off gear and cover plate (always onboard) and carry on....

    A good idea is to make up a short gutter & to have two little wings all welded to the cover plate ( pto cover plate) so that oil runs along the gutter & falls down on to the input gear where the mainshaft fits into.It also gives extra oil feed.

    As a precautionary measure for input spline wear could you potentially unbolt those 6 bolts and pack with lubricant and use an air compressor to help lube reach further areas while on the vehicle?

    I have rebuilt my R380 and I saw your video and replaced this part for the new cross drilled one as the output shaft was in good shape.
    Now I have a whining noise that increases with road speed, I think its the new output gear its a LR one fitted with timkens.
    The gear didnt look as good quality as the original.
    ashcroft say Some "pattern" gears are not "crowned" during manufacture and will whine because of the edge contact.
    Have you experienced this ?
    Great videos BTW

    Question about my 02 LRDiscovery II 4 wheel drive, my front driveshaft fell off and my rear drive shaft is not moving the car even in the low gear. Can you tell me how to make it drive my car or do you think something is wrong with the gear box. Thanks, Ernest from San Antonio, Texas.

      +Albert Flores you can't lock the differential in the transfer box on a D2 because has an automatic locking mechanism unlike the manual transfer boxes which have a movement on the lever to lock it unfortunately.

    Great video!
    I have a question about this
    I have a 85 ninety 2.5petrol so it has a 1:4 ratio box.
    Is it possible to exchange the shaft with a cross drilled one from a disco 1:6 box?
    I mean Are these the same or is it really different gears etc. Or will it change my gearing?

    • @trailerfitter2
      @trailerfitter2  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would suggest contacting either Syncrogearboxes or Ashcrofts. The Discovery R380 / LT230 T or LT230 Q doesn't come as 1.6 to 1 ratio. They are 1.22 to 1.
      The 1.6 to 1 is the Defender lower ratio transfer box.

    Where did you get that gear with the cross drilling? Is it an Ashcroft unit?

    • @trailerfitter2
      @trailerfitter2  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      www.syncrogearboxes.com/ YOu can get one from here bud. Shabs will sort you out but you need to be aware of the box numbers and/or teeth count.

      @@trailerfitter2 Sorry, another question that's not off topic... Is it ok to have some up and down/left and right movement on the shaft coming out of the transfer box going to the front propshaft? If so how much? And can I tighten the nut on the end up to stop the up and down moment? Really hope I don't need a new one!

    did i hear that right input gear can not be replaced in situ? mines a r830 ,do these fail the same way C?

    • @trailerfitter2
      @trailerfitter2  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it is an early R380 it may have the same issues. Some were fitted with oil feed plates that will stop you seeing into the area I showed.
