    I've had two of these and my wife has an SD4 HSE. Fabulous cars and I highly recommend them. I currently drive a 2019MY Evoque 180. 70K miles and zero issues.

    Thank you , i just got Landrover Freelander 2 in Australia 2013 -2014, from landrover center, only 90000 th km, one owner,i had a test drive & noticed that it was tyres off the balance, and they found after i told them about what i find, that they didn't tide shaft after changing new tires, but after watching your video, i m going today to test drive again to see is this problem exists in future my car!! thank you one more time

    Excellent advice, I have done several of these jobs of Freelander 2s including front and rear diffs. Always get your car serviced properly or have it checked when you buy it and check the oils in everything, Engine, gearbox, front diff, rear haldex and diff and ensure the haldex has had a filter change.

    I have a (relative to its age) low mileage 2012 XS and it's been a great car. The front door locks had to be replaced when it was about 5 year old. They failed within 3 months of each other. My LR specialist mechanic said, "Yeah, it happens to all of them. It's pretty much guaranteed." Luckily these parts are more or less standard and whatever he replaced those locks with, seem to be better quality and no problems until now (2024).
    Oh wait! Several years ago, a few minutes after starting the car, I had warning messages popping up, along the lines of "Transmission fault. Traction reduced." Luckily, it turned out to be just a tired old battery which was loosing charge and the electronics was sensitive to low voltage. After getting a new battery, the warning eventually went away. Weirdly, the message still popped up a few times but I was told this is normal and it may take a couple of hours of operation to clear the warning. It was true because the message soon went away and I haven't seen them since.
    Just some advice. Use the best quality oil and get it changed every 6 month and your engine will thank you for it with long service life. This is even more important for the higher performance diesel variants.

    Not exactly "common" issues, but known issues. Buying from auction, I'd expect these issues to arise as this is the best way to get rid of a lemon.
    My brother's 2011 Sport LE is on 175,000 and has had none of these issues. His neighbour has a 2011 HSE on 135,000 miles and has had none of these issues. I have a 2007 3.2 petrol HSE on 154,000 also with none of these issues. However, I have had the auxiliary belt tensioner seize, a radiator hose burst and a leaking vacuum pump - all of which I fixed myself.
    I'm not saying the issues you've mentioned don't happen, because they most certainly do, but they're not exactly what I'd call "common", with the exception of the door lock issue, but even then , it doesn't happen anywhere near as much as you might think from listening to the horror stories.
    Steering rack issues were actually a recall issue - it was caused by weld spatter- most should've been replaced by Land Rover years ago. But obviously not everyone got the Land Rover memo and some will still be driving around with the issue waiting to happen years later.
    The very best advice I can give anybody looking to buy a Freelander 2 is to take a look on the on-line forums. They are a goldmine of advice and will help you spot a lemon before you part with your hard earned money.
    As for all round reliability, just take a look at the classified ads and notice how many for sale have more than 150,000 miles. They can't be that unreliable now, can they with those types of mileages. However, they may well be getting very tired. The youngest is now 9 years old. A good or full service history is a must. Also, check out the previous MOT's online - this is a great indicator of how the vehicle has been treated. It'll show whether it's been looked after or run on a shoestring.

      totally agree! ive just bought a 2013 Freelander and the door lock has gone on the passenger side and is probably going on the drivers side - it is currently parked behind my 2007 freelander HSE that has 223,000 miles on it and has had 2 starter motors break, front wheel bearings, 2 front brake calipers and back suspension springs - since i bought it 9 years ago with 103000 miles on the clock - great cars change all the oil regularly and service the haldex ( ask Bell engineering for help!)

    I had my dif refurbished by AB Landrover they courier it to and from your mechanic in one day. They replace and upgrade all worn components for a very reasonable price and supply the two types of oil you need, these are very expensive no matter where you get them so let them supply them for you.

    I recall there is or was a company in East Anglia that rebuilt diffs with bigger bearings as apparently lr bearings are not up to the job. Think around £850 for front and rear rebuilds... Mine has 122k so may now be a good investment but no issues so far great car and sd4 engine and 6 speed auto excellent...

    • @ShaksAutos
      @ShaksAutos  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No need to upgrade if they are fine. I usually buy second hands that are in good shape and fit them to my cars followed by a diff oil change and they last for years.

    • @fubar12345
      @fubar12345 ปีที่แล้ว

      The FL2 rear diff issues result from a combination of 3 factors: 1. The bearings were too small for the application. 2. The bearings were over torqued from factory. 3. The diff oil change intervals were far too long.
      Without spending the money on a rebuild or replacement, the cheapest way to try and prolong the life of the diff's is to change the oil much more regularly than the service manual - every 10-20k miles if you want to be really careful.
      It's not guaranteed to stop them going, but it should prolong them. The job is cheap and quick, it can be done without even raising the vehicle if you're not too podgy.

      mines on 150k 2.2 diesel auto, had the rear diff go but otherwise runs like a Sherman tank heading east - The 4x4 system they use is really impressive, with 4 season tyres on these things go anywhere without even flinching and at the same time so smooth on regular roads and the motorway. They are massively underrated.

  • @overlandready
    @overlandready 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Never had a problem with anything other than the rear diff which there is a company that does larger bearings and then it's not a problem. After V4 the haldex had different software so never 100% locked up, that helped the rear diff. Most of the issues I've seen is down to falsifying of service record so the companies selling them do not have to do the 10 year service, which is about £500-600 in parts, let alone time. Central locking is not really an issue, it does fail just like on every other vehicle. What is more concerning in my opinion is the water traps that rot out the thin metal cills. Really they are excellent cars over all. also capable off road with some minor additional under body protection.
    The 4wd system is also a FORD part as they designed and made the items, which is why they have FoMoCo all over them, Ford Motor Company.
    Your stated rear diff issue is actually a failing haldex, they fail on the clutch pack sticking so continued 100% rear drive when there should be about 5-20%. rear diff failure is normally heard as a general whine that cannot be pinpointed.

    I used to work for Land-rover and this is just a carry over problem from the early Freelander
    Most problems were down to poor service ,never changing the oils in the diffs and budget and bald tyres, it was always recommended you must change all 4 tyres and realignment

    I have one of these, amazing car, did have the rear diff replaced - just get a refurb, nothing wrong with the refub diffs.
    Also make sure you get the gearbox oil changed, as well as the oil in the front and rear diffs (usually people NEVER refresh this and they should)
    Additionally, make sure the haldex is serviced (likely you need a 4x4 specialist to do this as it is a specialist piece of equipment and needs a very very specific oil)
    If you don't get it serviced the oil turns to a gel and blocks up the filter, burns the electric pump motor out and it is INCREDIBLY expensive to replace - at this point a lot of people remove the prop and run them in FWD only - but its only £60 to get these serviced and then its good for another 5-10yrs so just get it serviced.
    Lastly the belts and tensioners have stupid 10yr replacement time frames in the manual - no way do they last that long, just replace it.
    They do need to be maintained, but maintaining is cheaper than fixing, thing is most people don't maintain cars so you end up spending a fortune bringing them up to spec, however in the recent snow I was loving it, even able to pull a loaded luton van out of a ditch and up a hill!

Plus half of that is wear and tear parts like clutch,water pump,shocks etc. If you want something you don't want to pay any "maintenance" which certainly sounds like you only want to put fuel in it and everything on the car last the whole time you own it. Advice for you get a push bike.

      @@russjam121 I have a RAV4 2008 and main issue is its not made for tall people. Thin paint coat really cheap plastic and very long gears. Like for offroad terrains its terrible its 2.2 D4-D with 136hp and if it gets stuck I don't think that would get out even withe AWD. The engine is good and electronics no issues there, stereing colomn replaced started leaking. The only thing that I hate in the RAV4 is the seating position I'm 194cm and don't fit like it was made for asian people
