Hello everyone! Here are a couple of corrections:
I say Mel Brooks during the Critic segment, but I meant James L. Brooks. I must have had Space Balls on the mind!
And Phil Hartman started on SNL in the 80's, not the 70's. My mistake ✌️

I'm Indian, and generally love how Apu is in the show. I feel like Hank didn't need to step down, he coulda just asked Al Jean or Matt Groening to find some people willing to voice Apu, that are South Asian, and in the meanwhile still voice him. It’s called virtue signaling. They think they are so progressive and not racist ( but look into there past and oh boy…). They accuse everyone who is not them of being racist. Personally I feel like most normal people who watch stuff for satire and entertainment are not racist. Yes there is racism in many people. Even black people can be racist. My definition of racism is calling everyone and everything racist based on their skin color and some derogatory statement or word the used. The N-Word by white people is a violation and therefore white people who use it are racist. To point this out makes you very racist. One you are pointing out a word and two you are labeling a race of people and segregating them from using that word. The word is derogatory yes, but it is racist if black people use it or white people. To even mention that you don’t use it or acknowledge your race excusing your self makes you racist because that is constantly on your mind. We’ve heard the phrase “you are what you eat,” people who get angered and have no forgiveness and label someone something are the worst people on earth. They who point it out are the most racist people on earth. I tend to want to love everyone even the racists. I hate racism not racists but hey racist cancel culture would call that racist.

Casting a South Asian actor could create its own minefield, though. South Asia is just as multiracial as the United States, having been settled for many thousands of years by people of at least three different racial stocks. And, as any Indian could tell you, even though the Indian government does not officially recognize race, there is indeed a divisive color line in India. Look at the movie stars in Bollywood - ESPECIALLY the actresses - and you'll see that most of the really popular ones look more like Greeks or Sicilians than what we usually think of as "Indian." Suppose one of those light olive-skinned men was cast as Apu. Worse yet, suppose he's a native-born U.S. citizen! He'd probably have to prove to angry fans that he really was ethnically Indian!

just cutting out colored characters and fearing to ad new ones doesn't help with their desire to increase diversity.
and another thing I notice is some shows go in the other extreme and make it so "authentic" it becomes unrelatable and I don't get the super inside jokes and loose interest... and if they loose the white american audience, the other minorities even if they showed solidarity (which they don't) aren't enough and they loose money and don't get renewed.

What I liked best about Larry Burns is that he proved that a good man can come from an evil father. Even with all his flaws, Larry never does anything more immoral than make jokes at others' expense, and he does so not in malice but in good fun. The episode also emphasizes Monty's selfishness and lack of compassion, showing that he doesn't really care about helping his son overcome his laziness and alcoholism; he's just embarrassed by him and wants him gone.

I see nothing inherently racist about Apu, Because like all characters on that show he is a satirical character. Azaria is a Greek Sephardic Jew. If everyone only played their culture, many would never get work. Name the last Greek Sephardic Character you saw in a movie or TV Show. Azaria isn't Italian (Legs, Johnny Tightlips, Luigi Risotto, others), Black (Officer Lou, Carl Carlson, Drederick Tatum, MC Safety), Irish (Chief Yancy Wiggum), Japanese (Akira), Obese (Bumblebee Man, Captain Horatio McCallister, Luigi Risotto, Chief Clancy Wiggum, Comic Book Guy, Doug, Santa Claus, Mr. Costington), a puppet (Gabbo), bad with ladies (Kirk Van Houten, Moe Szyslak, Professor Johnathan Frink, Comic Book Guy, Bumblebee Man), or a bunch of other qualities, backgrounds, ethnicities, whatever, which makes it hard to cast to find someone who is really those.
Note: This is why it is called acting, because you are portraying something you likely are not... Miyam Bialik as Neurobiologist Amy Farrah Fowler is a rare example of someone playing a Doctor who actually had the degree to be it, neither Jim Parsons nor Johnny Galecki have degrees in Physics (Parsons has a BA in Theatre, Galecki dropped out of High School after one day of 8th Grade), Simon Helberg is really Jewish but not an Engineer, Kunal Nayyar was born in London not (though he did move to and grow up in) New Dehli and has no degree on Astrophysics, Melissa Rauch is Jewish (not a Polish Catholic) by birth and not marriage and neither voice she used on Big Bang Theory is her natural one... yeah, acting is weird, people do this thing where they pretend they are partially or greatly something they are really not... such a crazy concept.

The problem with hating on Apu is this:
Seeing him STRICTLY as a Racist Stereotype is simply untrue and a great disserve to Apu the character.
Apu the Firefighter, who saves Homer Simpson.
Apu the INCREDIBLY intelligent man who graduated with a tech degree, beating 7 MILLION other students.
Apu who loves his job, because he loves hearing people's stories. A man who CHOSES to work a job he loves, NOT because he is Indian and NOT because he is FORCED to.
Apu the Ladies Man, a man VERY popular with the Springfield Women.
Apu the friend of Paul and Linda McCartney (The Beatles)
APu who loves to design, build, and arrange furniture.
Apu who is a workaholic, because he finds his home life stressful with his multiple kids
Compare that to the Scottish with Willie.
Compare that to Bumble Bee man.
Compare that to the Ship Captain.
    Compare that to CHRISTIANS.
    Compare that to Nerds.
    Etc.
Is Apu a perfect character? NO! He's not even a perfect man.
I understand why SOME people may be offended by him.
Yet he is FAR better than pretty much any other Simpsons character. He is humanized more than most other characters. More is known about him than most other characters.
Ironic that the people calling Apu racist and to be taken out....are th same ones ignoring everything else that Simpsons makes fun of who they treat FAR worse.
Why are they not trying to defend Scottish, Italians, Mexicans?
    Why not defend the Christians?
Why not defend the Nerd or Fat people?
    The Texans?
    Rich people?
Simpsons is meant to be light hearted fun that pokes fun of lots of different people group, but if the ONLY one you think is problematic is Apu....then I think that says something about you. Something that you should probably examine.

What I loved about Herb was that he was voiced by Danny DeVito but looked nothing like DeVito; instead, he looked like a handsomer version of Homer. It's always fun to see a voice actor "cast" against type, such as when (then-) middle-aged Meryl Streep voiced the ten-year-old Jessica Lovejoy, or when Eva Longoria voiced a character who was white, Jewish, and a conservative Republican - all things that Longoria is not in real life. That's more interesting than, say, John Waters portraying "John," whose last name was never given but whose physical appearance left no doubt that Waters was basically playing himself. I like to think that, whereas the Penguin in BATMAN RETURNS is the physical manifestation of how DeVito is caricatured, Herb Powell is the physical manifestation of who he is on the inside.
