I feel like the fun part is when you realise that it really _doesn't_ break anything, or at least it doesn't break anything that matters. The show just takes it all in stride
Every episode is a new story, and it only really has to be consistent with itself. Continuity with the past is a lovely thing and it's good to have some, but there's no reason to let it get in the way of telling the story you want to tell right now

Casinos were not taking bets on this. That shot of the odds was taken at The Mirage sportsbook and was used in a special spoof episode of America's Most Wanted where they tried to find out who shot Mr Burns. If a casino took that bet, then writers from The Simpsons could easily exploit that.

20:00 how is this a plot hole?
bart went from the restaraunt to milhouses house, to his grandmothers house(presumably on foot in shelbyville where cannocially their family is from) back to springfield.
the issue is how lisa knew comicbook guy had the soul now instead of milhouse, not how she got it before CBG, though this can easily be explained by the fact that shes been keeping track of it the entire time to teach bart a lesson about spirituality and the importance of it. she may have already tried to buy the soul from milhouse who said the same information when she saw how much bart was suffering, only giving her jabs in the resteraunt to mess with him to the point of breaking only to already have it secured.

  • @Samrules888

27:25 -- Homer's look being similar to an obscure comic strip character from the 1920s probably inspired the Season 7 episode "The Day the Violence Died" where an old homeless man (voiced by Kirk Douglas) claimed to have created Itchy and Scratchy first in 1919.

The Barts soul thing isn’t really a plot hole, lisa could’ve talked to milhouse before dinner on the phone, teased Bart and then have her parents drive her to the comic shop after dinner. Bart would’ve been searching for milhouse for hours so it makes sense the comic shop would be closed and the soul would be sold already. Then the story continues when comic book guy finds Bart in front of the store.

Regarding the last point, it's kinda weird to imagine that people did, indeed, become like the Simpsons, so much so that now it's kinda boring. Nowadays, it's more subversive and interesting to show families that aren't dysfunctional, and are all around great to each other.
Back then, things like Bart talking back to his teachers weren't seen as merely subversive, they were damn near the fall of western civilization acording to every parent in the 90s.

It's kind of crazy how so much of the early simpsons had things planned that would break the status quo and keep things fresh, but people got so comfortable with the status quo that every single thing regarding it was scrapped in favor of flandarizing characters more. I firmly believe that the simpsons would've been better off today if they went with a "everything happens on a specific timeline and the characters age in real time" thing rather than the "homer was born in1960 but was an 80's kid wish fulfilment fantasy and had an early 2000's punk band as a teenager simultaneously" vibe they ended up doing.

One funny factoid I know about comes from TheRealJims. The line "Oh boy, sleep! That's where I'm a Viking!" has been repeatedly debated as to what it means. Countless arguments have been made on fan forums from the 90's all the way up to now. No one can definitively say what Ralph's statement means, but it's assumed that it was just meant to be random and funny, like most things said by the character.

One thing that I didn't see on the list is the theory that everything post Season 6 is a dream.
In S06E04, Itchy & Scratchy Land, Homer's driving the family to the titular theme park, and is driving while dead tired. Marge suggests he pull over, but Homer insists he's fine. In the next scene, a car slides off the road, into a telephone pole, and catches fire. The scene zooms out to show the family standing in a hotel room watching the crash, and Bart says "whew! Glad that wasn't us!"
The theory goes that it WAS the Simpsons that crashed, and that everything that happens after that episode is some kind of a dream / coma fantasy, as things get rather absurd after that. I know it was a bit absurd before that (e.g. Homer going to space), but many of those were rather plausible because some were based on real events (like Sharon McAuliffe who was a teacher that was aboard the Challenger when it exploded)

    • @douglaswolfen7820
      @douglaswolfen7820 ปีที่แล้ว +6

I think the trouble with this is that it doesn't add much, or change much. The Simpsons aren't "really" in a coma, because they aren't real. And if the story we're watching is all a dream, then it's still the same story
Have you ever seen the Princess Bride? Most people will tell you that it's a fantasy story about Wesley and Buttercup, set in a feudal / medieval world of pirates and princesses and peasants. _technically_ the entire film takes place in the 20th century in a child's bedroom, and the only people in the movie are the kid and his Grandad, who's reading him a bedtime story
None of the other characters are "real", they're just the story the grandad is reading. But so what? The story of Wesley and Buttercup takes up most of the film, and that's the story we get invested in. The old man and the kid are just a framing device, and knowing that they're out there doesn't really change how we feel about the main story

19:34 Clancy Bouvier probably likes to change his hair colour, or maybe it changes when he gets older. It does make you wonder, since Marge uses blue dye for her hair, and maybe there is a connection in here somewhere. Something to remember her dad by and since she is embarrassed to admit or talk about it, shows a deeper meaning here.

You did a great job. I'd love to see this gone through more you've just scratched the service... you know if you dare to touch the last few layers of this... You have no idea how pleased I am you talked about the Sherri Apparition lol.
Some stuff I'd like to add on to entries covered:
Marge's dad also involves his personality. Sometimes he's a stereotypical gruff masculine smoker. Other times he's a lot more polite and delicate like on the airplane.
Some of the original animation in some enchanted evening made it into some quick scenes of the final, it's also just weirdly inconsistent and has that infamous smooth scene. It's all due to just how rushed and insane and miraculous the process was.
I like the idea that Moe is just messing with Bart too lol especially when he pretended to almost catch him.
Then I've heard there being reports of Gumbly in 2011 but I have no proof.
I'm so upset about Selma's rad earrings I freaked when I first saw them ;(. And Roy has always been there they cut his episodes 8).

OKay, but it could have been anyone since there are loads of extended family members and the alternate ending where Mr Smithers actually did it. There actually is a background character that appears at least 7 times in various episodes of very early seasons (Season 1, episodes 3, 7, 8, and multiple times in episode 14) when the animation and modeling was still in flux that bears a striking resemblance to "Graggle Simpson." Though unnamed, and has no lines he actually did exist.

Moe could also be not doing anything to Bart since he knows Homer his best customer will probably stop going there if he were to... There's lots of reasons to give why he doesn't stop answering or asking for the people Bart asks for... I think Moe is like the cool uncle archetype where he's not exactly a good influence but knows what it's like to be a kid making prank calls so as an adult he plays it up to give Bart a good laugh. I remember making prank calls when I was younger if every time I tried I got no or a poor response I would have stopped much sooner, but I had fun and didn't hurt anyone, harmless kid fun and I think Moe recognizes that as well.

16:25 I have wondered about this a lot, but like, they have different houses. It is hard to tell how many there are, but there is a few. They move around a lot, either with the town, or other reasons, since the locations are always different. Homer and Bart are very wealthy, as they do thier stuff, they just hide from the FBI again, so they don't get caught like before, or maybe, they are keeping stuff in safe places. In one epsisode, you can see massive amount of gold underneath the floorboards. They use thier houses for different purposes and even in one of the newest episodes, they are living in a big house,
