Hey there. I'm the creator of Stardew Valley Expanded. Thank you for making a video about my mod! I wanted to cover a couple things mentioned in your video: Andy's dialogue actually doesn't have typos in it. That's how some southerners speak in the United States. Andy represents rust belt farmers and I wanted him to match their speech patterns. I understand I could have perhaps gone about explaining Scarlett's ADHD better and made it more apparent, but I think I still get the point across in her event. I'll take your feedback to heart and make some dialogue changes in the next update. Thank you for the feedback!
I've gotten a lot of comments correcting me about Andy's dialogue, so I'll pin your comment so that everyone can see the correction from the author themselves! I didn't pick up on the accent that you were trying to convey as I'm from Australia and don't exactly come into contact with alot of USA southerners very often 😂. Also thanks for taking on my feedback, I am really looking forward to seeing those dialogue changes.
your mod is awesome!!! Did you really mean to code Victor as autistic? My dad's a structural bridge engineer who's on the spectrum and my husband and I have been really enjoying cracking jokes about it while we play. :D and if you somehow just cloned him with pure luck that would be even more hilarious.
I always find it hilarious how ever bachelorette/bachelor acts surprised when you turn up out of nowhere and run into them, like the two of you don’t live in a tiny town of like 20 some odd people
Probably not super interesting to other folks watching this video, but "that there" isn't a typo, it's part of a regional Southern U.S. dialect. I didn't pick up on anything odd about it until you pointed it out, I'm just used to it. Given that Andy is a stereotype of a poorer, southern US rural farmer (shops exclusively at Joja, drinks a lot, distrusts and dislikes the government, reads the book of Yoba a lot), it made sense to me that his speech patterns would replicate that as well.
Another thing about Victor is that if you date Olivia you'll get a scene where Victor visits you on your doorstep to talk about it, I don't remember exactly everything he says but he makes it clear that he is happy for his mother and has no problem with the farmer. That's good because he's her only family present so he needs to be supportive, the characters in the game don't seem to have any reaction when you start dating or even marrying someone close to them.
I do wish in vanilla Stardew that if you marry a bachelor or bachelorette and they have some family. That they’d do more with it. I know Kent and Jodi do. But I wish Marnie and Jas would acknowledge me as part of the family since I married Shane in game.
Well actually Demetrius's b*tch a*s, makes it crystal clear that he doesn't approve of your relationship with Maru. You're not good enough for her in his eyes.
The reason why Andy includes “there” in a lot of his dialogue isn’t a grammatical error, in the US a lot of southerners add extra “there”s in their sentences. Given Andy’s god loving, central government hating vibe, he kinda fits the southern farmer stereotype lol Tldr; not a grammatical oversite, just a little flavor detail!
Yeh, will agree, grammatical errors in dialogue are often added because people don't actually talk with perfect grammar and to give more personality to the characters.
I believe the term you were looking for for Sofia's situation is 'Support System' Also, 'that there office job of yours' wasn't a typo. Andy is written as though he talks with a southern drawl and I personally actually use 'that there' and 'yall' all the time
So both my boyfriend and my best friend have ADHD and both are typically very forgetful. I find that I often have to remind myself to be patient with them and offer gentle reminders when they do forget things. Scarlett’s dad badgering her and threatening to punish her for her forgetfulness reminds me a lot of how my bestie’s mom treated her and her ADHD. She doesn’t talk to her mom anymore. Knowing that Scarlett got her diagnosis a couple years ago actually makes her outburst look justified when the context is clarified. At least, from my perspective. It looks more like her dad has made no effort to understand how her mind works even if he does mean well. Like he could’ve said something along the lines of, “you left the tools out again. Could you clean them up before you do anything else?” It’s a nice gentle reminder, shows patience and reinforces the idea of cleaning up the tools herself without any negative associations. Maybe he is frustrated at first showing that there’s still some adjustment to be made even years after the diagnosis. But this is all my thoughts based on one cutscene. Maybe he does this sort of thing later. Idk, I play on switch so don’t have access to the mod.
Oh yeah the game actually has more adult cutscenes that aren't enabled in the mod You have to go into the config and enable them This includes extra cutscenes with Jodi, Shane, Dawrf and Gus I recommend turning them on
@@Mossy3 nice! I felt the extra Shane cutscenene couldve been the only one needed to be hidden but all the others really add to the story and the world building, especially the dwarf

Glad my live stream footage could help you. It's Turr - rin btw like the Italian town. Also Andy saying 'that there' a lot is just a southern dialect thing. 'That there dog dun stolen ma meat' 😄
The scene with Scarlett and her ADHD was so relatable that before she mentions it, because I have the exact same issues, inattentiveness, defensiveness, I said to myself "she definitely has ADHD." Someone already mentioned the southern dialect but in the comments, it wasn't strange to me either, lmao.
spoilers for victor and dewey!! Victor's cat Dewey is not really dead, he ends up finding him near the bridge in a later cut-scene with the farmer. However Dewey has a new cat friend and now lives in the wild. Victor is okay and happy about this!
I feel like Scarlett's ADHD is fine, especially with the attention the condition as a whole is getting. I myself am more on the inattentive side, and honestly, some wouldn't be able to tell. My hyperactivity comes in when my brain makes connections, as it's often very quick, and for things that don't make much sense to others. Also, I need to take notes or draw in class. And I have a pencil box of .38mm pens of all different colors. Though if you want another NPC in SDV with ADHD, I'd recommend checking out Ridgeside. There's one NPC heavily ADHD coded, and another confirmed. When I saw the cutscene for the one NPC getting diagnosed, that one became my child and I will stab any who try to hurt them.
Just a note from an American. Andy saying that there is common dialect for more rural parts of America. "Oh I see you got that there new car of your's" is a sentence most Americans wouldn't bat an eye at.
I don't know if you've covered it already but I would LOVE a dark side of east scarp video! Go into why an adorable sea monster lives alone but talks about her mother often, and the fact that canonically she's only a teenager so should still be with her mom!
29:35 "that there" is something that is often used in the South and in a lot or rural communities. It has become something of a stereotype, but one that isnt unfounded.
Don't make fun of Victor for liking bridges. Bridges are extremely important and they need to be upkeeped or else they'll break and people will die and won't be able to cross. There are Island were i live that people live on and the only way you can get there is on a bridge.
Your take on how the scene where Scarlett is confronted seems like a whole lot of nothing to those without adhd is really valid, but, as somebody that Also has mostly inattentive adhd, I argue that that's the entire point of the scene. It's supposed to make you ask, "Why? Why is she like this?" And then the payoff is her explanation to the player. It's meant to come out of left field for neurotypical players to show that adhd isn't only a "kid can't shut up and sit still" disorder. It shows them that real people they may have gotten mad at or cut out for similar issues may have something deeper going on and that the player might have made an error in judgment. That person wasn't lazy. They weren't unmotivated. They weren't careless. They were just dealing with an invisible disability. And it's meant to give those neurotypical players a moment to reflect on that. Portraying mental illnesses and disorders is tricky because it's not a one size fits all glove. But it's more the purpose of your portrayal that really tells the details. And, if I'm being honest, this sequence of events perfectly hits that slap to the face from out of nowhere that's sometimes necessary for neurotypical people to see the invisible.
Andy has an accent that's not a typo, also for Japanese it's really easy to pronounce, all the vowels make long sounds. Just to help you if you try reading names or words in the language. It's a simple use long sounds for the vowels. ^^;
I can understand Lewis coming to tell Sophia about her parents death but why Gus. I feel like Harvey the local doctor would of been better then the bartender (Gus is still a homie unlike Harvey)

i was actually thinking about doing that but i still have to finish the original darkside series, finish this series and upload a bunch of other videos so i might not get around to that until like end of this year/early next year. It will hopefully come out one day tho lol
The following is a joke, and only a joke, and should not be misconstrued as me being pushy and/or entitled... Okay, Disclaimer done. We good? Okay then... Shortcut guide to Japanese pronunciation: Consonants always are read phonetically with a followup vowel. Vowels only have a single pronunciation. A = ah as in... ah I = ee as in bee U = oo as in kangaroo E = eh as in meh O = oh as in... exactly how it looks. So the violinist mentioned would be Hah-roo-hee Kee-yoh-koh
It's interesting to see Sophia talk her parents, not only cause she's finally able to open up to you but I think I remembered it being slightly different in the past. I remember a channel having her confess that a rock slide or something caused by Joja killed her parents but at some point SDV Expanded made things more neutral on Joja. I might be remembering wrong but that's what I remember for some reason.
It's weird but these characters and their designs remind me of some anime characters Sophia looks like Reimi from JoJo's Victor looks like Yoshikage Kira from Jojo's too Scarlett looks a little bit like Casca from Berserk
I had no idea Stardew expanded was so heavily infected with the twitter virus. I was actually expecting someone to take note on the way Concerned Ape wrote his stories, but instead it's literally fanboy/fangirl self inserts. No, Sophia isn't well written, her dialogue is honestly basic as fangirl/boy writing comes by. I've seen anime with a plot deeper than Sophia's "sniff, sniff p-parents gone" level of writing.
just a little side note, in one of andy’s heart events, the “there” in the middle of the sentences isn’t a typo. it’s something that southern people say all the time. great video, no hate btw
Not having ADHD, but having a mild form of dyslexia that affected my understanding of conversations more than my reading (I would hear sentences as sounds and it would often take several hours of me worrying the sounds over and over, like a dog gnaws a bone for my brain to FINALLY process the sounds into actual words), I do understand. However, most children at various stages of life (having gone through these stages and watching others do it over and over throughout the decades), have a brain rewiring period... in which they can be standing in front of you with you speaking directly to them, and when you ask them what you were taking to them about... they were totally oblivious to the conversation... One girl named Olivia got nicknamed Oblivia for this several year habit of hers... she did finally outgrow it, but it took her 4-5 years to do so as she entered puberty....

I was doing the Sophia heart events, but the minute she invited me to watch anime, I said no and never spoke to her again.
YAYAYAYAYAY GOOD LONG VIDEO LESGOOO
If you visit Sophie on Fall 4 she is crying and tends to stay inside
Awesome video, now let's see the Dark Side of Ridgeside Village! (Please?)
i was actually thinking about doing that but i still have to finish the original darkside series, finish this series and upload a bunch of other videos so i might not get around to that until like end of this year/early next year. It will hopefully come out one day tho lol
@@Mossy3 glad to hear it! I wish you easy times making these videos!
The following is a joke, and only a joke, and should not be misconstrued as me being pushy and/or entitled... Okay, Disclaimer done. We good? Okay then...
"Not gonna take another 7 months to come out with a part two like last time." - Hmm... as of this comment, you've only got a couple months left, better get on that. ;)
Sophia is a weeb, shy and adorable.
I love her,
I thought Andy was supposed to have this "redneck" accent which is why he says "that there"
Shortcut guide to Japanese pronunciation:
Consonants always are read phonetically with a followup vowel.
Vowels only have a single pronunciation.
A = ah as in... ah
I = ee as in bee
U = oo as in kangaroo
E = eh as in meh
O = oh as in... exactly how it looks.
Sofias story hurts a surprisingly large amount for being the type of game it is
As someone with ADHD i really appreciate the Last segment
Im really hype for this new dark side of stardew valley
As someone with ADHD myself, I say that this is really relatable.
actually, Andy's speech patterns match with more southern hillbilly style folks, nothing wrong with it, that's just how they speak
Me: I don’t watch anime
Sophia: *GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!!!*
Where is the part 2 ?
10:09 hey who was that girl ?
Andy’s “you still had that there office job” isn’t a typo. He’s just western.
It's weird but these characters and their designs remind me of some anime characters
Sophia looks like Reimi from JoJo's
Victor looks like Yoshikage Kira from Jojo's too
Scarlett looks a little bit like Casca from Berserk
Considering the anime references in the mod, the creator definitely like anime and so you're probably right about those similarities
"that there" is American redneck for "that" and is usually accompanied with a finger pointing or hand waving
just a little side note, in one of andy’s heart events, the “there” in the middle of the sentences isn’t a typo. it’s something that southern people say all the time. great video, no hate btw
I don't understand why Sophia is such a popular character among players. She really annoys/bores me.
10:11, who is that? nobody else is commenting about it, it looks creepy af
lMAOO
10:48 Bro did her so dirty here lmao
Can you also make a video about the dark side of Stardew Valley Ridgeside Village?
Stardew Extended run where you just hate victor so much you continue "befriending" victor to try and make him leave
why is Scarlett's neck so thick compared to everyone else
I watched the first two when they came out so I’m excited to see you again
