  • THE MTECH XTREME RAPTOR BOWIE IS NOW AVAILABLE ON AMAZON. TO PURCHASE A RAPOTR BOWIE JUST LIKE THE ONE SHOWN IN THIS VIDEO, CHECK OUT THIS AMAZON LISTING, ENJOY :] RAPTOR BOWIE KNIFE: goo.gl/gqqbDA
A lot of people requested this video, mainly because this item is a gigantic stainless steel bowie for $50 and people wanted to see if it would hold up. I have to admit, it did better than I thought it would. The edge was a lot better than all other Mtechs. I think the blade thickness, wide broad relief grind, and an actual good heat treatment saved this knife. The handle fits my medium-large hands well, but without any extra room to spare. I think they should produce more knives like this - full tang, Micarta or G10 scales, real edge, real heat treat - this is a good direction to go in.
    Mtech Xtreme Raptor Bowie
    Blade Length: 13 inches
    Edge Length: 11.5
Steel: 8Cr13MoV/440C (both steels are printed on the blade)
    Thickness: 6mm
    Handle Scales: Linen Micarta
    Weight: 1.7 pounds
    Sheath: Leather
    Made In: China
    Price: $50-60

There are two types of this knife. The mx-8070 and the mx-8070a. The mx-8070 is 6mm or 7mm blade thickness and the mx-8070a has the 4mm blade thickness. Be sure to look at the model number when buying to make sure you get the one you want.

I have this Raptor, and, the Outlander. Both are the same size, but, different blade designs, and, the Outlander has a black blade. These knives are beasts. 18" overall with 13" blades. Swing these all day, and, it'll be as good as a weight workout. Anyway, MTech has finally turned out a couple of REAL knives, and, make no mistake, they are very good quality knives. And, yes, make sure you get the thicker 6mm versions.

Update. I have been playing with my brand new Mtech Xtreme Raptor and I honestly have to say that this is THE BEST Bowie knife I have ever owned, Period!!! This Bowie is so tough and durable, I mean how can it not be with a 7mm thick blade (Package says 6mm but I measured mine and mine is a hair just under 7mm!!) this knife is my favorite and I have many many good knives in my collection. The steel is 440C CNC machined and comes with a thick Genuine Leather Sheath. This knife is just so badass words cannot justify it's awesomeness. Get this knife!! Don't settle for a shitty Bowie, this knife screams excellent quality at an affordable price and I'm very happy I got this knife over another. This knife will be in my family for generations to come.

Mtech is awful. Glad you got a good one, but for $50 you could've got an American made okc sp10 bowie that could chop your bowie in half. I used to think mtech was a good company when I was a kid until I learned about steel. I still keep my mtechs about the house in case I need a beater knife, but I carry spyderco in my pocket these days.

@@idongedher2427 & that being one of the things that I really like about it that it's 440c, I have big knive made of others steel types and with this beast I have no worries about rust at all ,Mtech hit this baby out the park.

man so happy I've seen this coment, now I will feel justified to buy one :D Im not looking for something that has the best steel etc. I just dont want any problems (440c stainless sounds like one less problem) and this weight and size... I mean I was able to chop down some young dead trees to start a camping fire with cheapo columbia knife which in poland is sold for around 50pln with delivery (15$+) so if I can do it with knife that weighs half of what this 7mm thick beauty, I probably would be able to chop down general sherman with that raptor xD as long as you wont be prying with that it will do well probably :D anyway I want it for the looks.

      I have both knives.
I did hard use tests with both and i can tell you the Ontario SP10 never will shop the 440C Mtech in half.
Btw..440C steel is a great steel when temperd right.
      They are 2 good knives.
If you really think the SP10 would shop the Raptor in half..i doupht your knowledge about steel and knives..

UPDATE: I still have this knife, I still Love it, still use it and honestly, Buck Hoodlum, BK-9, Ontario, Cold Steel, and others simply don't have shit on this knife. It is a Masterpiece and It's holding up nicely. This is THE ONE knife I will hand down to my grandchildren one day, it's that tough that legendary, and simply that badass!! This Bowie knife is a perfect example of how best to use 440 steel. If you are a man and complain that this Bowie is too heavy, I suggest you shut up, undergo a sex change operation, and tell everyone how you couldn't live your life as a man because you couldn't wield a knife!! This is a MANS knife. I am a woodsman and I proudly carry my MTech Raptor Xtreme Bowie on my hip like a boss!!

When I see vids like this, I'm reminded of another company. They started off making not particularly wonderful items (and they "borrowed" a few ideas etc from other manufacturers). But they were pretty cheap, and did the job (sort of). But slowly, as time went by, their products improved, until now they are a huge, and well thought of company making high quality goods. The company's name ? Honda....

from what I've been learning, hollow grinds and flat grinds are no-no's for heavy wood processing. You'd want a convex grind which pushes material out of the way (big chunks of wood) as you strike. The other grinds dig and bite too deeply and don't push chucks off as well.
Seems like a great pig sticker though.

Becker, Ontario, and all these other "military Tactical" are gimmicks compared to the Mtech Raptor. This knife is proof you don't have to spend hundreds of dollars on a knife, the Raptor beats all competition with ease. I wouldn't even waste money on a Becker knife!! if a knife is going to cost me well over $100, I might as well hang it on the wall!!!

just like how the same motor companies own shit like BMW and Lexus as own Toyota and cheaper cars like that, and make them in the same factories, using the same workers, using the same materials and being held to the same quality standards. The ONLY difference is the price tag. It's an age-old marketing technique that people are conditioned to think they're getting more if they're paying more when it's demonstrably not true.

One good knife there. About the only thing that's missing is a cross-blade handguard. The Bowie was developed as a fighting knife, allegedly by James Bowie. The classic Bowie knife has a crossguard to protect the fingers and either a clamped over or inset fillet of brass to catch the other guy's blade. While this blade looks to be an excellent wilderness blade, the original Bowie was a "Perch-bellied" fighting knife with a reverse-sharpened back and a brass blade catcher. Essentially, it was a short sword. This knife is a much better and more useful blade than the original Bowie, IMHO.

Very nice blade! I have had trouble batoning blades that had hollow ground edges. They seem to bind up unlike a full flat ground or convex ground blade.

    • @WeAllJuggleKnives
      @WeAllJuggleKnives  10 ปีที่แล้ว

Yeah, the prominent bevel gets hung up on the wood and prevents the edge from contacting it anymore, so it ends up having to rely on brute force alone.

You only hit on it, used it as a prybar, which should be no problem at all for a somewhat sharp-ish 7mm thick piece of steel.
How about using it as a knife tho? Do some light wood work, some feather sticks, cut some rope. How is the sharpness holding up after that?

Sorry, but this is an old video from the time when more hard use and destruction type testing was the big trend on TH-cam. Bushcraft didn’t get huge until later. However, my newer videos have a lot more bushcraft tasks and demos, as you suggest, check them out :]

Hi Israel, MTech was never my choice for knives, firstly, the 440 steel, and the quality control, not so much in the finish, but in the tempering of steel, actually a 440 properly tempered, can do, the other day, I bought a CJ Deubel Custom Hunting Knife, it's beautiful, High Carbon Damascus Steel Blade, just beautifully patterned, and a Green Giraffe with some beautiful spacers that are brown with direction arrows on it, the center of the handle is Albacore, or Mother of Pearl, anyhow it's TiT's, so the guy threw in a MTECH #MX 8079, I found it on the internet, it list's as 440 stainless, and at 6 1/2" blade, I compared mine to the Ka-Bar Fighting Knife, a 7" knife, mine is 7", and 440C, do you think I should collect it, or is it a sturdy knife to go out and use, by the way, is that Raptor 440, or 440C ?, Thanx

    • @sergeantdef.3572
      @sergeantdef.3572 ปีที่แล้ว

If you pry with the tip it wont break..
If you pry real real hard it can bend a little.
I now this because i have this knife.
      The tip is real strong.

Off the wall question, any good recommendations for a survival type knife with an 8" blade length(actual edge length I should say). Preferably under 80$. Trying to kind of complete a little collection and this specific edge length type knife is eluding me.

Wow. I haven't had a vid surprise me like that for a good while. There are a few houses in China that are producing some top quality stuff. It's still inconsistent as a whole, but I have a few examples that are mind blowing. Hell, as we all know, many of the high-end Sypdercos are coming out of Taichung, Taiwan. These types of vids have to sell more knives for these companies than any cheesy marketing campaign. Provided the knife performs well that is. Another great vid. Thx Jug.

Seems like a pretty solid blade for the money. Certainly not lacking in size. Incidentally you must be at a pretty high latitude. Temps cold enough to see breath and that much snow on the ground in late May? Sheesh. I realize us pussies that live in the tropics marvel at such things that are not uncommon but something about snow and May just registered even with me and I grew up in northern New England
