Another awesome vs vid John! I never heard of those Zombie Tools knives before. I just checked out their website and see they have some very cool stuff. Wish M-Tech still made that Raptor.
That's was how come I got 3 of them , I was sick of my favorite blades being discontinued just before I could get one or another one. MTech surprised my when they discontinued the Raptor ,but it was $55 some places when it first dropped and WeAllJugleKnines put up the first video.🥷
The only real difference in performance would be in the edge. A hollow grid makes finer cuts but gets damaged easier while a saber is for maxing out durability.
The MTech is also made from 8CR13MOV, which isn't really a steel many would choose for a hard use, chopping-oriented blade. I'm guessing that's why it's so thick, because any thinner and you'd really be risking breaking the blade. I've had a few budget bowies that used 8CR13MOV, and they've all broken under extended use. I think 5160 is a much better choice for chopping, since it's quite a bit tougher.
5160 and Zombie tools in general are practically legendary as far as toughness goes. It ain't CPM3V , but its enough. I don't throw any knife not made as a throwing knife due to heat treat and tempering differences
A Sabre is a general all use grind, by no means is it for maxing out durability. That's what a scandi convex is for.

I've had three zombie tools. The felon. Raptor. Scaliest.Maybe ... and I use them the leather handles never come off they never get loose ... and I do abuse them.
Thanks for making this video! It really demonstrated the Felon well, which is what I was searching for. And as a second thank you, I appreciate you not being massively cringy, which sounds like an odd thing to say, until you watch some of the other reviews on this knife out there.

Traderjoe I can digg it ,but the Raptor has a specially heat-treated edge so the hollow grind on it work really fine 🥷

I have been drooling over the Zombie Tools Sharkelope for years. Its a bucket list blade for me
Hollow grinds naturally form a pinch point as it penetrates. The wood has to ride up a curve as it penetrates. The saber grind is more of a wedge, which is also hard for the wood to split around. The best, really, is a convex edge. And, a convex edge has the most support of the very apex as possible, so it lasts longer. But, draw cutting with a hollow is very efficient. But a hollow grind is the weakest at supporting the edge apex. The next strongest is the saber. But the ultimate is the convex. Of these two, I would choose the saber.
Well said. Generally speaking, the "Appleseed" edge will take longer to fail than a concave or saber grind. It truly becomes more important the larger the implement and the more striking cuts are required.

but the Zombie Tools Felon is a blade very high on the wish list ,and I don't think either one is better,
well maybe the Felon just a little because of the 5160 hc steel, ⚔️ but that
440c steel MTech uses on the Raptor is phenomenal, so you have two great blades ⚔️👍⚔️👍⚔️

Yeah he did use that , I think he used two at the same time it was kinda hard to tell the was Raptor Bowie Knives but yup that's what he used. 🥷
In the throwing part of the test you can clearly hear the “Raptor” hit with such authority over the “Felon” kinda like the thud of 45-70 to a 9mm.

The leather sheaths are still made but under a different site called war lander enterprises. I believe the person who made them moved and went under that company but still makes them for all ZT blades

Good comparison. The Felon should be alot better knife because it cost over three times as much as the Raptor. I would like to own both knives and would carry the Felon in the woods to cut food and ropes, nothing else. Now the Raptor, I wouldn't mind if got a few battle scars chopping on trees and maybe splitting firewood.

Dude, I winced when you threw the knives back to back with the other still in the wood. I broke the tip off a really good knife doing that. The wife had just warned me about breaking my new knife..... other than that I was damned impressed with that raptor. I'm a big cold steel fan and use to sell them in my shop back when. I'm gonna look for an old raptor now.....

I have two Raptor Bowies at different thickness, nice monster blades but the scales are lees than desirable and the handle length is really disproportionately sized, I am looking to have new scales made that would reach both finger choils.

This was an awesome review!! That mtech is a surprisingly good chopper! But for long term durability your Zombie tools is definitely the better choice. And its just one of the meanedt lookin things ever made ✌️

Gotta say I love my MTech I really wish I would have grabbed a raptor. Funny you never know when they will stop making a knife. What blows my mind is how good some mtechs for their price. I have the 151 everyone loves to hate.
Yet a knife that cost $19 and survives a few camping trips with my crew is a force to be reckoned with. Especially since nobody is scared to use a $20. Big money knives in my experience hardly get use.
Ever had the let's use yours mine is really expensive. Or I don't wanna mess up my knife.

Great comment! I know quite a few guys like that. I have high end blades but when I camp I always have a budget blade for hacking and hard use. My Kershaw Camp 10 is one of my favorites!

I'll be the first to admit that I'm a huge fan of Zombie Tools. The Only issue I have with them is the expensive. MTech does rate in my top 4 and while I've never had any issues with them, they don't quite make the number one spot. The advantage, MTech is more budget friendly. If you got the money, go ZT. If you need budget friendly, go MTech.
Those Xtreme Raptors are hard to come bye , They sell another version called the Black Raptor. You should do a video pitting those 2 against one another. It would make a great original video and would create great interest I believe. If you want a awesome Bowie try the Traditional Filipino Weapons Bowie , I think it is a little known blade that kicks ass my friend . He uses a blend of 5160 and D2 in Wich I believe is superior to Cold Steel San Mai in my opinion.

There's really no comparison, it might seem like it, but when you start cutting through sheet metal and bones the mtech falls to the wayside. Nothing wrong with mtech, I've had lots of them, but zombie tools is a totally different class of knife.
I was shocked by how pitiful the zt traumahawk was. It's beautiful but useless as a tool..I really thought it was gonna be a fine forest hatchet but it lacked the head weight to be an effective chopper.
my other zt purchases are all amazing especially The Spit..which is a god of a weapon in every way.
If anyone is willing to sell me the raptor then lemme know!
The chop test is highly inaccurate unless you can duplicate the amount of force for each strike you cant do a real comparison.

I have found that true tests are when throw them over 100 times. That separates them pretty much.
