  • In December 2023, three months after the United States and Vietnam became "Comprehensive Strategic Partners," Vietnam welcomed the "China-Vietnam Community of Shared Destiny" with a 21-gun salute of the highest protocol. The joint statement reiterated the "Two Corridors and One Circle" framework and the cross-border standard railway connectivity between China and Vietnam after a year. The grand vision of the Pan-Asia Railway took a significant step forward, becoming the most tangible echo in Sino-Vietnamese cooperation.
Connected by mountains and rivers with continuous economic and trade exchanges, why has there not been a high-speed rail link between China and Vietnam? What does the convergence of China and Vietnam's railways truly signify? This is an effort to reshape the international landscape in a century of unprecedented changes. As Sino-Vietnamese relations ascend, who stands to gain the most? Geopolitical forces are in flux, with the U.S. seeking regional balance in technology and resources, while China aims for regional cooperation in trade and resources. The convergence of these forces often reshapes the future of a region. Is this the future we all want to see? Let's explore this in today's discussion; let's begin now.
In recent years, as the "Belt and Road" initiative continues to progress, the "Pan-Asia Railway" has been put on the agenda, serving as a crucial link in the connectivity between China and Southeast Asia.
Once completed, this largest railway network in Asia will not only strengthen China's relations with its neighboring trade partners but will also reshape its land power advantage through the new Eurasian land route, creating more viable channels for outbound and maritime trade.
Clearly, any action capable of reshaping the world's geopolitical landscape will face various obstacles, but it cannot stop the tremendous force of regional economic integration.
In the midst of a new international order, just as the U.S., South Korea, and others are desperately trying to woo, Vietnam and China announce the construction of the "China-Vietnam Community of Shared Destiny," putting their relationship at the forefront once again.

While Southern Asia is integrating around the Chinese mainland, the U.S. is getting pushed out into the Pacific because it has nothing left to offer. China offers a huge market & industrial development, while to US offers sanctions and technology restrictions. In addition, China offers millions of tourists that will easily will travel by rail. Benefits to everybody - so Viet Nam is very interested to integrate.

Regarding Vietnam's rare earth reserves. North Korea is said to have rare earth reserves greater than China. Also Mongolia seems to have a huge rare earth reserves deposit. The US was trying to make a deal with Mongolia to obtain rare earths, but no word on whether that is a go or no go. It matters not because all do not have processing capabilities and China does. Even the large rare earth mine in the US called Mountain Pass sends its concentrates to China for processing.

I see some ridiculous comments saying that Chinese and Vietnamese are like cousins. Just to be clear Vietnamese look similar to Chinese but Vietnamese are NOT Chinese. Vietnam is a very complicated country. Geography Vietnam is located at intersection of many countries, and this results in Vietnam people are mixed a lot more with people from all over the world.
Yes, Vietnam used Chinese writing in the past due to Chinese rule in Vietnam. But that Chinese writing doesn’t mean Vietnamese are related to Chinese people.
Vietnamese culture is similar or same as Chinese culture because Vietnam greatly admires and loves Chinese culture, history, philosophy, economic and political developments. Due to Vietnam’s huge and mad love for Chinese culture, they imitate and copy everything from China, BUT that Doesn’t mean Vietnamese are Chinese. Vietnamese are NOT Chinese. People should stop making nonsense statements that Chinese and Vietnamese are brotherly related.

Why do the Chinese people want to be associated with Vietnam? From my understanding as a Malaysian, Vietnam is behind China, not to mention a few other countries in Asean in terms of economic development. But instead many Vietnamese said they are in fact a mixture of Lao and Chinese hence their only culture is Chinese culture passed down from their ancestors. Nationalism is good but need to conform to facts or evidence. 😂

Zhuang people, Miao people, Dong people and other ethnic groups inside China such as Tibetan, Uyghur, Korean are ruled over by the Han Chinese and yet they all have their own culture. So nationalist Vietnamese should not simply claimed that China ruled over them hence their culture is similar to the Han. Subjects may adopt the ruler's culture but they still should retained their own culture. The only reasonable explanation is that Vietnamese Kinh people are descended from Han, maybe partially i.e. mixed blood and they created their own language somewhere back in history. Don't try to appear as a fo.. by being fiery nationalist because the truth may not be to your liking. It pays to be humble and circumspect. 😂

With vast space, using rail-road combination between China and ASEAN will certainly booster the advantages of logistics within the region. Remember, only China owns one of top 5 container shipping lines, whereas even Singapore's APL had submerged with CMA; hence the on-going rail connection from China to Laos and subsequently to Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia - Singapore makes plenty of sense as transit time for trades amongst all the parties will be shortened, now with a line linked to Vietnam, the only ASEAN member on the mainland not linked is Myanmar which China is trying to link via Kunming too; hence a west-East link to Thailand will complete the jigsaw. Such rail links will also offer the railways of all the members some capacity to carry instead of depending solely on shipping. Rail links have the advantage of easy connection via spur lines within the region which will benefit from inland dry ports.

Without China Vietnam would have been split in two like the Koreans then Vietnam will forever be bondage to the West for another two hundred years. I knew this because I came from there . The West always make people feel good about themselves until it’s time for the West to harvest their sheep. If anyone still don’t know how Empire operates then they were born to serves. Therefore, you’re nothing more than Pheasants who worked in the fields. You could never be Knights. That means you are a low class people. And only Knights are the noble blood and only Knights can become Kings . Remember, you can’t fixed stupid.. if you remained the same . Those who lived on, they adopted, changed and evolved into a higher level, that’s what Noble is

What Vietnam should remember is USA was the one try to wipe Vietnam (the North) off the world map while China and Soviet support the North drive American out of Vietnam!
Now American try to woo Vietnam along with the Japanese because they try to "counter" China! That's the game American always play!
Bottom line is both China and Vietnam is fully sovereign nations, can not say the same for South Korea, Japan and Philippines when you have American troop on your ground whatever narrative you want to believe, just try saying no to big old USA, then you can decide whether you're fully sovereign 😢😢😢of these countries!

Some Chinese people in here love to spread incorrect information about Vietnamese people are related to Chinese people. I am Vietnamese. We never think Chinese and Vietnamese are cousins. Vietnamese are NOT related to Chinese people. Many Vietnamese don’t look like Chinese. Those you see similar to Chinese people are actually Chinese people migrated to Vietnam a hundred years ago, but that is a very small number like 1% - 2% of Vietnam’s population. I hope Chinese people learn more better about history instead of spreading incorrect information about Vietnam and Vietnamese people.

Chinese and Vietnamese are like cousins with many similarities culture, foods, their skin color, facial feature, family name and they celebrate many festivals including now they are celebrating the Lunar Calendar New Year which Vietnamese called it TET.
Although they have had some disagreements and disputes before. But that is like family quarrels should be resolved between the 2 countries and move forward for the betterments of the people and nations. They should not let outsiders from far away to instigates them to have more quarrels.
Here I wish all Vietnamese and Chinese Happy Lunar New Year the year of the dragon.
