    Just a heads up;
    Carbon fiber reacts to aluminum. It will cause the carbon to haze and slowly lose strength. You will want to gasket the carbon to electrically isolate it from the aluminum.
    Great work by the way.

    Dude, you read my mind. I was literally just starting this video and I thought its been a long time since he's played " I like these odds" by Jay Kill and Hustle Standard. Brings back some memories of the Goose videos. Love the channel man, keep up the good work.

    you should use a thin layer of glassfiber between the carbon and the steel backing-plate due too galvanic corrosion issues..
    Most metal in contact with carbon fibre will corrode, and have to be mitigated.

    maybe an advise for next time, look into prepreg carbon ;). especially for smaller projects like this you can use the kitchen oven to cure it. and makes so much stronger carbon and more appealing look as well ;).

    • @starfox_wr-45e93
      @starfox_wr-45e93 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good shout. I've been looking into pre-preg as a solution for an motorcycle end can. As far as I can tell pre-preg is more resistant to heat, but even that stuff will have to be lined with Ali or heat shielding of some description.
      I did also research a intake plenum to turbo the same bike. Results we not good. Too dangerous to have under a tank of fuel right beneath my chest I think. They didn't mention a specific carbon, just that chances of it blowing apart are pretty high compared to metal.
      Then this vid pops into my feed lol

    Where did you get that aluminum v band flanges ?

  • @apexaero
    @apexaero 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    After the preliminary sanding and cleaning, why not do a Glo Coat of resin, I have learned to ad a couple lams of .5oz cloth first(on surface) before the carbon to help with the horse rib effect in the weave.

  • @1one3_Racing

    I wonder how it will go with vibration and the weight of the throttle body hanging off it? Looked thick enough that it should be good but it may stress fracture in the corner.
    Would have been really difficult but the metal backing plate could be incorporated into the layers of carbon.

    hi are you going to bolt the carbon fiber intake an a flat bit of plate and pressure test it before installation just to make sure it is not going to fail in some way i know its carbon fiber but the engine is worth a lot of money.And a pressure test for piece of mind and good content for the channel would be good to see love the idea of the carbon fiber and good to see your thinking outside the box on this build just love it cheers from down under

    That intake is going to snap from thermal expansion of the intake tube unless you introduce an expansion joint

    • @joshstovall5783
      @joshstovall5783 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably never need replacement with those sharp angles, triangles = strength. That intake will definitely handle 30 psi. , and in that car will be more than enough to make anyone crap themselves.

    You could sand clear sand clear
    A couple times it will be like glass
    It’s matrix high speed clear
    It holds up well too
    I love your videos always a pleasure to watch !!!!

    in between coats of clear, try using a blow torch to pop the bubbles, it works for acrylic countertops and epoxy counter/desk pours, maybe?

    Someone commented a while ago about flexible joints on the intake pipe to prevent cracking and whatnot, and my first thought (and reply) was wiggins clamps to help with that. I saw these www.hargettprecision.com/ and thought they would fit your aesthetic much better. Cheaper and do the same thing. But I don't know if you already had a plan to deal with thermal expansion and flexing and all that... Do you? I kinda think I remember you talking about it...
