JT knew what he was talking when you talk about music. I felt the same immense connection with him when he was talking about music rhythm which I had my own description of it as far as I know.. Up to now, 💘 💘 watching this guy
Yes he is. He took this interview seriously too. Charles sent him our questions in advance so he could honestly answer them. The entire interview was 33 minutes long!
Johnny Rocks! I like how that left hand of his keeps talking ( - : and when you watch that talking hand ... see the callouses on his finger-tips ... one hard working passionate bass-player ... Great talk, loved it!
🎸JT KNOWS HIS SHIT!!!🎶 His knowledge of rock music is phenominal!!! Being a "Duranie" opened up a whole world of music to me!! Once I dove deeper into their musical influences like Roxy Music, Japan, Chic, Bowie and Queen (which I was already huge fan of) really did open up so much musically to me! I am eternally grateful to JT and Duran Duran for that!!! ROCK ON EVERYONE!!!
Seconded on that. I remember the two CDs on heavy rotation in my car back then were Power Station and Sign. I had a pretty long commute back then and I remember letting the first Sign CD go straight through. I sat in the parking lot at my job just completely blown away while the first CD finished. Made my day hearing him talk about that record.
Rick W as a kid I was obsessed with wanting to learn the bass line on Save a prayer. I learned it and played it over and over. Then eventually I got tired of it. But to this day whenever I pick up a bass, it’s the first thing I play out of habit. I learn to play save a prayer at 14, in 59 yrs old now. I am still a huge Duran Duran fan.
As a music fan who still buys cds/albums and doesn't just download songs individually, I loved it when John mentioned listening to an album from start to finish. How else can you fully appreciate the artist's musical vision/journey? And based on that, I will certainly buy Solange's Seat at the Table and listen the whole way through. Really nice interview!!
So cool to listen to another Musician break down some of his favorite Music... And as he said “Seat at the Table” by Solange is quite a mind expanding experience. Thanks JT.
I'VE NEVER SEEN ANYONE COMPARES TO JOHN....RIGHT NOW AS WELL. WHO SAYS THE CONTRARY IS JUST JELOUS. WELL, I CAN UNDERSTAND, BUT I CAN'T JUSTIFY THAT. DEFINITELY
Just stumbled on this channel tonight via this and the Robert Trujillo episodes - and I am hooked. What a dream come true. To hear these various musical personalities of my disparate youth talking about the musics of their own disparate youths...what more is there to say. Thank-you.
The great thing about them and many bands of their generation was how much of music enthusiasts they were and still are.John and Simon still buy vinyl records when they can and they all keep abreast of new music.Just check out their podcasts!!!!
@@michaelscoots Those two songs, along with Lonely in Your Nightmare, are my favorites from that album, in large part because of the bass, which directly correlates to the nearly 40-year crush I've had on John Taylor. Check out the bass line on Lonely again - it's a bit more subtle, but it's equally gorgeous!
@@michaelscoots for me the bass on "Careless Memories" and the bass solo on "Planet Earth" always remind me of his skill and unique style. i still haven't figured out how to play the bass solo.
Es un verdadero placer escuchar a John hablar de discos. Me hizo quere ir y co prar esos discos y escucharlos. Cobcuerdo totalmente con lo que dijo del White Album.
How to succeed in "interviewing": 1) ask a rock titan who has stood athwart the world a dumb question 2) he/she unleashes a spectacular, self-deprecating, humble, authentic, funny, illuminating 15 minute stream-of-conciousness that surprises even the most jaded person (if Robert Cristgau watched this, his head would blow off into the Hudson River) 3) END
that dude is a tool. i pretty much have the polar opposite perspective of everything he reviews. it's a wonder how he managed to maintain employment in the field of being a music critic for so long.
He is a bassist of Duran Duran, but he play several different musical instruments, including guitars, after the bandmate, Andy Taylor left the group in 1985 to do his solo career.
Amazing choices..Beatles aficionado would put White at the top...Prince fan would put Sign of the Times at the top..Stranded is if you have most of the Roxy collection. Well done John!
Went early to a Neurotic Outsiders show to get John on my Rio CD insert (I know...) I ask one of my friends have you seen John Taylor? And hes like, he's behind you. I didn't notice this guy was behind me awkwardly close because he was walking and I stopped, so it's already kind of weird. Super nice guy, signed the insert and then he's just standing there next to me, waiting for someone (?) And now I am too (waiting for someone) so were just standing there leaning on this wall and im thinking, say something to him, ask him something cool, but I'm just...blank. So I finally decide to just turn and start talking and I look at him and say..."Uh, thanks John" and he's all "absolutely", shakes my hand and I then walk outside the venue even though I was supposed to be inside. I can't remember if I went back to my car I might be blocking that out due to embarrassment.
For me... Duran Duran's first 2 Albums; Led Zep's "# 4"; Pink Floyd's "Wish you were here"; STP's "Purple" and The Tragically Hip's - "Fully Completely"... btw - RIP Gord Downie - Lead Singer of "The Hip" and Canada's Poet Laureate of the masses - amazing Lyrics.
I really appreciate his comments about the white album. Never thought about it before, but it was the "end of the 60s". Abbey Road is the portent of the 70s. Genius.
RIML_TV I’d definitely drive 1200kms for John Taylor too. 100% worth it. Brilliant interview. Loved that you didn’t talk over him, just let him reminisce and tell the stories. Perfect. ✨🙌🏼👍🏼
I could get down romantically with some Bryan Ferry. I love Bryan Ferry! Wish I could find a man who appreciates my musical tastes. I don't like hip hop but it seems that's all everybody likes these days. And he likes Solange! He has great taste! I so connect with John on that.
Maye McDonald Right??? England is a place so musically fertile, incredible bands came from there! Isnt rare for me to discover a new band thinking that they're from USA - as 90% of the musical influence we have in Brazil - and then I find out that they're from England. I really want to do a deep search in their 60s-90s decades cause Im sure I dont know nothing yet! (sorry for any mistake in my english hahahaha)
Got to agree with Johnny Boy, Sign O the times album, game changer! "I got a free ticket last minute to see Duran Duran in the eighties,, I'm thinking bunch of overrated pretty boys! Omg was I wrong,, They were brilliant musicians and they blew the roof off, fantastic live band!
You're right. We've filmed almost 200 interviews and I'd say the Beatles have come up in at least 40% of them. I know a few guests purposefully refrained from listing the Beatles as it seemed too obvious to them! Their influence will forever more be heard in music.
You're probably right, but I'll go further to say I should have been more wary of the water fountain that was behind me when we shot. However it looked good and honestly when John Taylor is giving you an interview you kinda want to go with what he wants rather than take up even more time looking for a more perfect situation. Audio is always an issue on our show because we often film backstage while bands are sound-checking or performing, I'm running both camera(s) and audio, plus we are usually on a tight time constraint. Sometime we have to accept what we're offered and hope for the best. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment, appreciate it!

It's amazing how deeply and personally John Taylor feels and understands music as well as making some great music himself. Thxoxo.
Rio would definitely be among the “Records in my Life”. And John is a big part of the reason.
I love this man, hot and one of the best bass players.
Great bass player, great fella. Thanks for watching, appreciate the support. XC
My wake up moment was when as a 12 year old in 81 I heard the bass sound on Planet Earth. That's when I knew I needed to play bass.
1981 was a special year for music. It was my "wake up moment" as well. And like yourself, I'm a bassist.
