Many dont realize how much Duran Duran revolutionized the music industry back then until now. It wasnt that MTV alone changed it for them, but they did have videos that were far better than the average back then. Also their music was different to the standard new romantics back then, as they mixed dance, rock and later funk into the music. Which was way ahead of the industry.

Respect to Andy Taylor -- love hearing that recognition, it was his guitar sound that helped make Duran Duran HUGE here in the USA whereas other Brit exports from the 80's new wave and new romantic scene just didn't make it quite as big over here (exception being Culture Club). My kids listen to Duran Duran and now I have a grand daughter who will be listening to them. I love their talent (something which is so rare these days with auto tune and soundtrack performances). I love Simon’s unique voice. No one sounds like him and I know as soon as I hear him who he is…Nick, John and Roger are all so talented also on their instruments and I just can’t put into words how much I respect and admire them! They are simply the best!!

they touched on it , but what separated this band from the other new romantic bands and put them over in America is the rock edge of Andy Taylor...they are all talented(each member has some distinctive moments on many songs, John's bass line in Rio is stunning for example) , but the guitar lines from girls on film and Rio are so unique...the combination of greatness on all fronts including their look brought them to the super bowl, but Andy Taylor's rock leanings won the game...one final note...they owe alot to Warren also because the wedding album was the first real time where they now were entering a new fan base of fans as the original duran fans were now becoming young adults...so the wedding album was them for the first time becoming a multi- generational band..once you can get to that second generation you have bought yourself some cred to really experiment and to be granted a real shot at longevity...the wedding album with its two monster hits broke through that wall to announce" we are not a band that will be a casualty of the 80s sound".. when they came out, all of the critics said they are all about their looks and the music is inconsequential.....well as these men set out upon their 4th decade of putting out relevant exciting material they basically reversed the critics prediction....with duran duran the look is inconsequential, and in the end it was all about the music....my true respect to these guys , and gratitude for a lifetime of great music...I know they will continue to stake their claim among the alltime iconic band where every member brings the goods to the table...Simon(a singer who sounds just as he did in 1982), John, Nick, and Roger in no particular order, you are all legends at your craft...

    • @michaelfrazia4569

back in the early 80s the look of the band was pushed by the record company because there is more marketing to be done off of looks than musical ability. when you strip the looks away you are left with a truly unique sound ...they definitely had the new romantic genre nailed , but those guitar stabs by Andy really made the songs more fluid among genres...They are all very good musicians...no weak links in this band...I think the way they are able to nail a rousing chorus elevates their songs to arena level songs...New moon on Monday comes to mind...a decent verse where nicks keyboards set up a mood where it is an interesting base to hear the lyrics...then the chorus just lifts the song.....reflex is another chorus that is all time memorable...it is undeniable pop mastery level songwriting...then they somehow are able to do it decade after decade...ordinary world 90s...reach up for the sunrise mid 2000s...anniversary 2021...they just nailed down the ability to craft master pop songs where the chorus is arena ready...its incredible...then you have the members all splintering around 85 and they all have hits...i like the guitarist they have now. he has a great style of his own ...I am just hoping for 1 more tour with the original 5...i don't know how long simon can continue to sing at this high a level because usually the singer loses his ability before the musicians, but while he is still in such amazing voice a final original 5 tour would be great..I am a rock guy and that is my favorite genre, but I have always loved 80s pop. there is no better example than this band..glad this album is so good and I am going to appreciate them while they are still going . BTW I like the name you use..bowie is one of my faves too

The same is happening here. The interviewer brought the basic topics and allowed the band members to give their impressions and opinions about each topic addressed. It was like a talk among friends. All band members really feel comfortable to talk in this interview. Indeed one of the nicest things among Duran Duran members is that they are indeed good friends out of the studio/stage as well.
