Love listening to Roger Taylor's drumming on all of Duran Duran's songs. He has the best fills that are dropped in radomlly. Giving the songs an edge, with precision and intellegence especially on songs such as Faster Than Light. On the song Save A Prayer he demonstrates this deftness with a swing feel that rocks like a lllulaby that reminds me of a large grandfather clock pendlem. It feels heavy although it sounds like he's playing it light.. It makes the song, along with the synth.
for an untrained drummer, he has a good sense for playing interesting stuff when needed then getting back into the pocket. I was able to hear him, John and simon willescroft (sax) warm up back stage several years ago prior to a show....roger actually has some chops that he doesn't get to employ with band
I bought the RIO album in August, 1982 because I liked "Hungry Like the Wolf". When you watch the video, you see mostly Simon and not much of the other bandmembers so I was pretty shocked to learn they were a five-man band. The moment the needle on my turntable hit the vinyl and the opening of "Rio", with that strange reversed sound, came on I knew I had found something special. Now, nearly 40 years later, the album is still a great album. Part of the allure is nostalgia. Part of it was that they were just incredible musicians who captured a moment in time that resonated with a vast audience. You can call them a Haircut Band (which a lot of people did) but you can't dismiss the musicianship on this album. Then, remember that we're talking about 20, 21-year-old young men. The album has a mixture of sophistication and emotion that just makes you want to listen to it repeatedly. And I did.
Rio symbolized the end of the innocence of Duran Duran. Having listened to them from 1981 and having seen them in small venues up until 1983 (Seven and the Ragged Tiger), all would change and would eventually drive Roger and Andy away. I'm glad that after many years they were able to get back together (Astronaut), however it is sad to see Andy gone, again. Last year I saw them for the 6th time with Nile Rogers ... sounding better than they have in ages!
Very good drummer and guitar. Smart guys with a collective hive mentality and a solid sense of aesthetics, style, art and fashion and armed with big ears and skills of playing, young guys looking good too. Unbeatable combo!
I have been sitting here trying to top what has already been said below, I am a blank. It's so true, Duran Duran are 5 extremely talented, solid guys who know their music like no other artist out there does. There Unbeatable... There has never been a Band/Artist who is better than Duran Duran is, and I don't think there will ever be.
THANK YOU (again) for posting this, I'd never seen it before and it's fascinating! Very handy entertainment during the 2020 lockdown. Also, Roger is possibly the most adorable of human beings :D
Wow, how come I just ran into this wonderful documentary on the Rio album with so many behind the scene clips I had never seen. Falling in love with Duran Duran, Rio, and theie music again! Never left them, have all 15 studio albums and have seen them in concert at least once on every big us tour, but remembering why I loved their music again. Thanks for uploading these videos!
I think the first 2 were perfection. The third started to become less focused, less artful, more self indulgence by Simon. Still some great tracks on it though.
Felicitaciones!!! Excelente documental... Dando crédito a cada integrante x separado y a la vez cómo juntos aportando cada uno lo suyo resultara la magia de Río... Bellos x siempre especialmente JT...
Hey Nookie.. I saw you said on someones video that “this is all you are posting and that you would do it yourself” so I checked and sure enough you did! Thank you for posting all 5 parts. I had not seen this before and for me it is one of the best from Duran with their in studio breakdown and background stories. So again THANK YOU!
Shame they never made another record with Colin Thurston.. he really made this band have 2 great albums.. after he was gone they all paled in comparsion.
@lackocult1 You may be right, but the classic albums' theme is not the best album of such band, but the one which caused a huge impact in its time and rio is probably the "classic duran duran album" which doesn't meanthat it is the best
Last sentence from Nick Rhodes sums up music completely...just do it..create...and see if the public like it or not. What else can you do...i was involved in a beautiful litte song 9 years ago...google MESSIAH by Helena Softley...it took eight years of legal crap to get it released. This amazing woman singing MESSIAH has had a stroke and brain op in that time. Hope something really special puts it somewhere it is worthy of it's place in British Music History. Please check MESSIAH by Helena Softley out...play it once for Helena.
The Reflex and Union of the Snake ruined the album for me. They not only failed to speak to me, they were actively annoying, as if they were writing songs as a script for a video. In my mind, there was only one song on Seven that was worthy of Rio and the band that produced it.
the person meant there is one song that made Ragged tiger as good as Rio i also disagree I like Ragged Tiger love the songs that person hates LOL i was born in 85 so iam just now getting into it
A painfully brilliant album. I mean that as a musician who would KILL to make something that extraordinary. A masterpiece of timeless pop...
Duran Duran are legendary, I will be listening to them again and again even when I am 90 years old!!!
Me too - I'm 53!

Roger was tired of the life not the music thats why he came back he just needed a breakfrom touring and the crazy fans and all that goes with the life
Nile Rodgers is probably the one guy who could really pull off that style seamlessly. His playing/producing on Let's Dance by Bowie is proof.
ANY BODY OUT THERE ?? IN 2020 X😀
yep, watching during the lockdown - stay safe! :)
Thank you sooooo much for posting all 5 parts of the documentary. I watched all 5 parts Very informative
.
I LOVE DURAN DURAN

Very good drummer and guitar. Smart guys with a collective hive mentality and a solid sense of aesthetics, style, art and fashion and armed with big ears and skills of playing, young guys looking good too. Unbeatable combo!
Style came first

Duran Duran una banda formada por adolescentes impresionantes con un buen gusto por la música apesar de su juventud.
The most incredible pop band in the whole Planet Earth.
those first 3 albums... perfection
add notorious(1986) ,so red the rose(1985) and the power station(1985)
I think the first 2 were perfection. The third started to become less focused, less artful, more self indulgence by Simon. Still some great tracks on it though.
Masters at their craft all of them, I enjoyed that :)
Felicitaciones!!! Excelente documental... Dando crédito a cada integrante x separado y a la vez cómo juntos aportando cada uno lo suyo resultara la magia de Río... Bellos x siempre especialmente JT...

4:45 oh shut up!

jeligula: reflex and union of snake are on 7 and the ragged tiger not on Rio and they are just as nice7 i for one love , seven and the ragged tiger
the person meant there is one song that made Ragged tiger as good as Rio i also disagree I like Ragged Tiger love the songs that person hates LOL i was born in 85 so iam just now getting into it
The Reflex and Union of the Snake were not on Rio.
Tiger Tiger and Secret october were really cool stuff! But I don`t like "Union of the snake", too...
