The menu music and game music bring back so many memories. I mustve put 1000 days into this game over the three years i played it. Might have to pick up an N64
This mission has always struct me as being so weird in that it's a level in which you simultaneously start with the lowest amount of ammo at only 20 rounds, while equipped with a submachine gun whose magazine isn't even completely filled by that amount of bullets.
The music and intro to this level were so matched that it brought out this massive adrenaline rush and "let's do this shit" mentality. Althought the graphics are outdated now, at the time this game felt so awesome to play and still is. The amount of explosive and gun action, the music, the intros to levels with the briefings, the ability to rush or go one man army and the first person aiming was tricky and fidgety but so cool at the time. The ducking into tunnels and pipes used to throw me off so bad though.
While it's not the first FPS, Goldeneye 007 for the N64 is possibly the single greatest and most revolutionary FPS in video game history (and one of the strongest titles in the N64 library). It boasts a campaign mode that's very atmospheric and actually gets pretty intense at times The game includes nice array of weapons (not to mention the secret weapons) along with a four person multiplayer with multiple modes (paintball, no guns aka "slappers only", golden gun) that was light years ahead of anything out at the time. The ability to duel-wield weapons and use various Bond-style gadgets is awesome as well. The unlockable cheat codes like big head mode were hilarious. Many imitators tried to emulate Goldeneye 007 (Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six for example) but failed to top it. The soundtrack is amazing as well, with great renditions of themes used in the actual movie. I still own the cartridge and pop this gem in the old N64 from time to time. On a more amusing note, this may be a playthrough of a "James Bond" game but this person's playstyle is more akin to what you would see in a "Rambo" movie XD
Yeah i was like 5 i think when i cousin or sumn gave me the game and honestly i havent felt the level of impressive quality that made u think wow was mainly on the n64 era etc... gaming kinda turned to shift after the 360/ps4 era finished... some decent games now but im not impressed by them really.. me n my friends would go to the library n play age of empires... where the fuck is aoe 4 lol total war isnt the same..
I would usually go for the silenced D5K because this level is a nightmare with other weapons. But this video shows that you can challenge yourself, as if you were trying to make up some achievements like, "Complete Frigate without using silenced weapons" or something like that. Great job on completing this level with the PP7.
Everytime i play this level just reminds me of the movie Under Siege with Seagal. (ok i know Under Siege was battleship and this a frigate) but fact that you have to rescue hostages and your on frigate just makes me wanna watch that movie! i am currently developing a Under Siege Arcade game at mo. hoping to get game companies interested.
I loved playing the game in general with as many cheats as possible, especially the Big Head cheat. Gave you more chances of getting of a head shot. And the all guns cheat came in handy with the sniper rifle on some levels.
Sensational fact for you, it was actually the score from Duran Duran’s A View to a Kill which influenced the music for this level!! I just found out from the documentary. Listen and you’ll recognise it!

Bond's pistol wasn't silenced in the film. If I had to guess, the original design of the mission was to be somewhat similar to the movie, with Xenia killing a pilot and taking off in the helicopter. But then the developers realized it'd be a rather awkward to pull off and not fun, so they dropped it in favor of rescuing hostages but forgot to add a silencer to Bond's pistol (unlike the D5K which is silenced.)
It's speculated she was supposed to be in the level at some point in development, but the idea was scrapped. I can't really see how she would fit into the level gameplay-wise.
@Starscream91 Sounds cool, but we're adding more fun to this masterpiece ;) Adding mines to both Surface levels is also an idea I had when I was a kid.
I finally beat this level on 00 Agent for satisfactory times for myself on all 4 of my save files. Best time 3:01, I can finally move on to Surface 2 now.
I’d like to see him try to be this quick with a gun and fast on his feet in the N64 version. Controller wouldn’t let you (if they had only added a second joystick instead of C) and the rendering couldn’t.
where can i get this emulator/rom? Looks to be the best I've seen. The one i have is 60fps but the increase in framerate seems to speed up machine gun bullets. So they drain almost instantly
That's normal with 60fps as some stuff like fire rate are tied to framerate. Just to make sure you have the latest version, get it from here - archive.org/details/1964GEPD
I got a N64 to play this classic and frigate is my fav level I used all guns and ammo cheats and played the level with silenced pp7 only it fun to do it like that

Skullhawk13 I personally prefer to use the PP7 because it's more accurate and preserves ammo. During this playthrough I only switched to other guns when I ran out of ammo or really needed that rate of fire.

@@cheeplethebulldog1420 If you're playing with Joy-Cons or Pro Controller there really isn't a way around it. They didn't calibrate the sticks properly so it's overly sensitive. With the Nintendo 64 Online controller it's much easier. I recommend using the 1.2 control scheme which will let you aim entirely with the stick, but then again it's too sensitive with the Switch controllers.

Maybe Bond just doesn't want to carry all that ammo. Ammo does have weight of course.

What's your emulation set up out of interest? I could never get goldeneye to run this smoothly on a mid-high level PC
