This entire level was hilarious, Boris screaming "AHA I AM INVINCIBLE!!" After dropping the gun and near pissing his pants, the elevator music was chill then you get outside to hear a sick beat, This game's music was ahead of it's time, so much fun

Protecting Natalya is in my opinion the most hardest part of this mission on 00 agent mode while she's disabling the goldeneye satellite

@Jon Davis What I think is hardest is the very end where Alec stood in the closing elevator. That's where you've wasted your body armor and most of your health trying to protect Natalya, one shot from those hard asses in that room will get you killed and you try to dodge them on your way to the other elevator to end the god damn level!!! I pop a vein everytime I see the blood drooling down the screen!!!!!!!
@Jon Davis I get stuck there because I find myself playing hide n seek with the fucking guards to get rid of them all before they kill me, but they just don't end. And some of them seem tougher than some. I tried what you said once. I discovered that part of the area on accident (of course after 21 years of playing it on and off) because one of the mainframe computers didn't blow up and I used up all the mines to ambush the guards getting at Natalya...I was looking for more mines and I find more armor instead. Maybe I'll try that again.
The music is so real. That real shit!
Boris gets shot in the ass and still says, "Aha! I am invincible!"
Can't believe I played this so many times and never stood in front of Natalya. Had the worst time with guys coming in from the sides.

@@eyworld Eventually they break the glass, but if you take most of them out as they come down the top stairs they never reach the sides.
Yeah it's a really good strategy. I never knew it either. You can nail them as they're coming down the middle stairs and your position glitches some out they just shoot pointlessly at the glass. Pretty cool.

Hated this mission extremely because of the sentry guns, protecting Natalya, and rogue grenades (only if you aren't careful).
This freaking level gave me PTSD. It's both amazing and infuriating to see you do it so easily, even knowing these aiming controls are significantly better than the real game's.
for me its when soldiers shatter the glass with their shots, as you know whats coming next and its not good

@@spigknot during the first 1-10 times definitely. Someone should try this where everyone is fast as possible and all are 0 health, making it nearly impossible to keep natalya alive in effect
Y'all probably already know this but you can actually kill Boris in this level. Just stay against the wall and go between those pillars and the stairs. Basically stay out of the area that activates him. You can't cross above him either so if you go up the stairs, don't walk above him, go left or right and keep your distance when going across the computer desk area as well. Go get Natalya. Then you can run down get his gun and kill him. You can still grab your body armor too. She won't start until you are close enough to cover her. It's pretty satisfying to off the little twerp haha
Huh, so just "activate" Natalya entering the control room before "activating" Boris, and then killing him won't fail the mission? Never even thought to try that, that's pretty cool
Still to this day the death animations are impressive AF and really breathes life into this world.
Yeah, I notice a lot of games nowadays try to combine death animations with ragdoll physics so that enemies don't just fall to the ground like a sack of potatoes every single time you kill them, but I can't think of any game where the animations are as.... elaborate as those of GoldenEye and Perfect Dark.
I'm pretty sure they used motion capture for these animations
one of my most memorable momentd in a videogame as a chils was pass this by myself before my older brothers xD

I love how this game gives everybody balls of steel. Everytime you get shot in the leg or arm Everybody just shakes it off no limping, no bleeding out, they just say owe and shake it off
More realistic than most FPS though. Quakes aren't sensitive to body parts I don't think. In perfect dark I think the enemies limp when injured.
Watching you play makes this level seem a lot easier than when I tried to beat it when I was 11/12 years old back in 1999.
I remember the first time I played this level I killed Boris and Natalya got angry and walked back into the elevator x_x

I used the same method of standing in front of the big screen as a kid, but never thought to shoot up top...but I'm also the same guy who thought you had to run to Trevelyan's elevator first before the one you actually exit through. Can't tell you how many times I helplessly strafed through that final part.
Just recently played through Control on 00 Agent. I do believe it took
me 25 tries and watching a youtube video to take notes. After that, this
level REALLY isnt that BAD. Aztec takes the cake for hardest, that
fucking took me over 100 tries of trial and error.
A. Blow up the
mainframes behind the glass, only blowing up one side of glass on the
right ( If you face the goldeneye screen, to your right) DO NOT blow up
the left side glass, you WILL regret it unless you are super fast on
killing enemies. Throw the mine on the mainframe itself to do so, the
left mainframe throw the mine on the FLOOR NEXT TO IT not on it.
B.
Face your back to the glass, constantly looking left and right when
Natalya is finally in the room, with the body armor from upstairs on.
C.
Blow up every single computer desk except for the one Natalya uses so
you can quickly run to enemies who miss your scope and take em out.
D.
Use any remaining mines (on 00 agent should have 3 left by this point,
you need to keep at least 1 for the last mainframe after this sequence).
Throw one on the elevator door behind the glass, and the blast door on
the left side. You will take out extra enemies that could overwhelm you
when these doors open. Not a requirement but certainly helps!
E.
IF YOU DO MANAGE TO PASS THIS, Blow up the last mainframe behind the
blast door's glass with the last mine, run to the elevator door, take
out the 2 guards across the hall, Run immediately to the right behind
the lockers to find a 2ND BODY ARMOR! Use this, run n gun, find the
blast door that takes you to the elevator, 2 enemies towards the left of
the wall in front of you next to the elevator. Bang bang, open the
door, mission complete.

I didn't know you could enter the room with hanging machine guns before the end. That's where I always struggled trying to take those guns out as an endless spawn of enemies kept coming from behind. one attempt and completed now. Thanks!

@@msuspartans5139 The best part is the one I just mentioned, right behind the railings in front of the staircase - the guards that chase Natalya *only* appear from the top level and have to come down said staircase, the other guards that target you (the ones with hat) can spawn anywhere but won't shoot at you through the railings.

@@msuspartans5139 As I mentioned earlier, the guys targetting Natalya spawn only from the very top floor and they come down that staircase, no other way around so there's no chance if you kill them. That's why it's the best spot, on this video it's played on emulator at 60FPS and mouse controls + high resolution, on N64 it's way harder here.

This game stole 2 years of my life from 1998 to 2000, I recently rediscovered it with emulators, man memory lane! I see now someone else has become Bond as well. Towards the end I definatly was Bond, most of the time I didn't even use my sights. Run n Gun, head shots with auto aim off,, usin "c" keys to aim.. awesome stuff. This was my favorite level, that and running through facility 00 gettin invisible cheat, or was it invinceble? totally crazy. After this many years now I have to look up how to beat levels, sad. Awesome show though! Graslu00 became Bond! Its so much fun when ya get to that lvl, the game becomes booring but hunting your friends in multi is a kick!

This is prolly the hardest level in the game...trying to not get Natalya killed...Aztec and Egyptians are easy as hell to me.

My mistake was always blowing up the mainframes before Natalya could even hack the system. That would allow an influx of soldiers to come from the top and the bottom. I still managed to pass the whole game on 00agent mode as a kid.

For some reason the guards with hats attack you.But the ones without hats attack natalya.I have no idea why it is like this.
Sebastian Gutierrez I actually never noticed this, not sure if it's really like that or not though because if you go in front of them they'll shoot you anyways. But maybe they did something with the hats here, like different colors means different levels of health.

I love how the "Replay Timeline" of this video has a massive trough of like, no replays between 5:25 and 7:05. It's like no one wants to re-live that escort mission.
As I understand it it's the opposite, when a section is 'flat' it means they didn't skip through, and each bump is where people go to replay a section so most go for the mainframe locations and start / end of the Natalya defense.
I remember this being such a hard level as a kid. Didn’t know to stand in that spot during alarm. Got annoyed looking all around

Your aiming skills are legit PERFECTO, I find it difficult just to guard Natalya and distinguish which Guards are there to either strike you or Natalya down because I can’t compete the level if she’s been taken out!!!
Check my shorts, I have a tip for this level that will make it MUCH easier!

This guy's so lucky. No guards came out of any of the blast doors and shot the windows, plus he had a glitch!
What glitch? The guards not breaking the windows is because I didn't let any go down. The ones that come from the blast doors at the bottom always go up to get you, not Natalya.

A modern take on Goldeneye 007 controls-
You CAN play the original game the way modern FPS controls work.
Here is how:
First choose in game controls menu "1.2 solitaire" and use an original N64 controller (sorry Brawler64 I still love you). Now put your left hand on the D-pad for walking and strafing, and your Right hand to use the stick for looking and aiming only. Change the inverted or non-inverted as desired "Reverse" or "Upright" in game. The right index finger is now to shoot. Your left index finger is now to aim with the L button. This functions similar to and mimics the hand assignments of most modern FPS and newer controllers. This fixes the original tank-like control option that a lot of kids used back in the day.
BTW, you can also use these similar controls for Duke Nukem64, Turok, Doom64, Quake 2 already has this control setting by default!
I used to shoot the computer when Natalya was trying to hack it and she would get pissed and the run back to the elevator lol

So everyone forgets that control panel guard? I think what happens is that a lot of the time he jumps out when he hears gunfire and you shoot him, but sometimes he doesn't and when that happens you don't expect to have to find him.

Yeah, this version is cleaner than the re-release. The updated HUD already helps by a lot, and it's 60FPS instead of 30FPS (at the time TH-cam didn't support 60FPS videos though)

Of all the levels in the game, THIS is the one that I hated the most. Made it a habit to just blow up all the tables except for the one Natalya used so guards couldn't cheese and hide behind it. Running like a mofo before she finally gets everything into the computer to stop the Goldeneye....I think I was on a first name basis with all the guards by the time I beat this thing on secret/00 Agent back in the day.
What's worse then trying to protect Natalya is having some doofus gard throwing a grenade and it exploded the computer she was using! Thus, she gets mad at me instead of I don't know try to use another computer in the room or angrily shoot the grenade thrower (she has a gun in her hand for crying out loud!)
Oh yes Boris you *are* invincible, and that bullet wound I'd wager James gave you tis but a scratch in your book.
I hate this mission so much and it's all because Natalya keeps getting killed!

Because it's so much harder with the n64 slow fps lol I've been trying for days!!
Well this playthrough is mainly to show the game at stable framerate and HD, not to show anything aside of that (Even though it can be useful for some tactics and ways to do stuff).
I played again on the N64 not so long ago and the trick on this level is to go slow until you reach the main room, then grab the armor by following Boris and if you managed to keep full health there, the rest should be easy.
Don't go for Natalya until you've thrown the mines to every mainframe except the one behind the closed door, and don't blow them up until Natalya is done with the computers and you can throw the last mine to the other mainframe in the closed room.
Instead of taking the path I took on this video after I blew up the last mainframe, go back to the main room and go to the door at the far right, close to where you initially came from. You'll see some guards there, kill them before going in and then take the new armor in the locker room. After that, just go out the door and rush into the elevator and that should be it.
I can't record the N64 or any other console that doesn't have HDMI, but I could always emulate it at original framerate and play with an N64 controller, just like I did with my The World Is Not Enough playthrough, but first I'd like to finish my current series. If you still have issues, I can always upload an unlisted guide in lower quality (so it uploads fast) just to help you out with it.
Well when I first played goldeneye back when it came out i remember it being easy to beat but now I try today and it seems almost impossible! Lol so I used your video to help remind me what I had to do. Thanks ks for the advice though I will try again tonight!
