I remember playing the PC version of this a lot (I didn't have a PS2, Xbox, or GameCube back then). While the PC version did lack the vehicle levels, the levels themselves were larger than the console versions, sometimes slightly, sometimes much more. Another thing is the PC version was MUCH tougher, compared to the console version. One good example is the level title "High Treason" (I think it's called Phoenix Rising on console). This level is VERY long on PC and can easily take many people over an hour. This is that major "difficulty spike" level, especially since there are probably more enemies in this level than probably half or most of the console version. Unlike the console version where you can get out much quicker, it can take a while going through the building. While you don't have to go through every floor, you will have to go through many of them, plus the stairwell which are flooded with enemies. Not saying it's the "hardest" level, but for 1st time players, it could be a challenge if they aren't expecting it. There is one thing that also wasn't said, because the console and PC levels differ, the ordering can change. Example: After the Chain Reaction level, Bond sees the vent, then it cuts to bond on the rook with Kiko. At least this is how THAT level ended for consoles. On PC, THAT bond going into the vent starts a completely different level as Bond infiltrate's the base. It still ends the same at the end with Kiko knocking bond out with the tranquiller dart, but still. Another level is the Airfield Ambush (2nd level). On consoles, I think this was where you used the snowmobile and car, but on PC, you get a stealth section mission (at least the first part). Moving through the base in stealth took me a while back then (I was in my younger teen years). However, I LOVED the sniper section when you have to cover Zoe from the tower with a sniper rifle. I did eventually get the PS2 version years later. I honestly like both versions as each has their own positives. The PC version wasn't as bad as people kept saying. My guess, they played the console version first, when played the PC version, saw there were no vehicle sections on PC so instantly thought it was terrible.
I remember the biggest issue with the PC version being the poor bullet hit registry. Granted I've only played the demo, I vividly remember being annoyed at how half my bullets would go right through an enemy without doing any damage. I also read some reviews (such as in PC Gamer magazine) that mentioned this issue being in the full release of the PC version. I dont know how any developer can put out a free demo- which is meant to entice gamers to buy the full product- that causes frustration and anger lol
@@daminox - Either I didn't notice or the multiple patches that game had fixed the issue (as when I played, I did make sure to install all the patches). I did NOT play the PC version at launch. I did see some videos of people that were just clipping through things for no reason and I never had that issue happen. I still have the retail 2 CDs somewhere.
Nightfire was the first game we ever had tournaments of in primary school. Pro-tip (like 25 years late) But you can stick those remote sticky grenades to the barrel of a turret then forget about it. The second another player tries to use it. The grenade cant be seen from the mounted position. & The bullet hits the gernade instead of actually firing. And potentially hitting you. Caused many childhood tears with that trick.
I remember having problems with the security guards on the stealth level waking up after being sleep darted. I discovered that they would just despawn if you punched them, but it didn't count as a kill, and so didn't fail the level. Core memory unlocked.

@@Nipah.Auauau I thought he was much more positive than some of the other reviews I've seen for the game. I enjoyed his coverage. I only wish I could play it without buying an outdated console, lol! Maybe one day I'll suck it up and just buy one.
Great video as always Josh. There's one small (and almost entirely inconsequential) thing I can add. That AIMS-20 wasn't just a "random sci-fi machine gun". Its an actual prototype weapon called the HK OICW. It was all the rage back in the late 90s/early 00s as the "future of infantry weapons". The main barrel is a 20mm airbursting grenade launcher, and the underslung bit is a 5.56mm rifle. And then it was cancelled because someone in the Department of Defense finally came to work sober and went "this is wildly impractical".
It wasn't cancelled for being impractical. The horrific injuries caused from firing the 20mm airburst grenades violated the Geneva convention. They had a very high propensity to cause permanent blindness.
@@bahamut256 Nonsense. The grenade launcher portion did not violate any arms treaties. In fact, after the OICW program got canned, it was fielded in 2010 as a standalone grenade launcher, designated the XM25 CDTE.
@@bahamut256 Nah. That's just an urban myth, for a couple reasons. One, the US was never a signatory to the 1868 prohibition on exploding projectiles. Two, 20mm high explosive is not banned. Its a pretty common projectile. And three, it was far more likely the project was cancelled because the rifle weighed nearly 20 pounds, which would be just god awful to carry.
@@bahamut256 Geneva convention doesn't ban 20mm grenades lol, and guess what, 5.56 bullets also cause permanent blindness if they hit someone in the eyes.

Oh my God, you covered Nightfire. I can't wait to dig into this video! This game was one of those absolutely TREASURED childhood games for me. I have this core memory of me playing Nightfire on my Xbox while waiting for the airships in Final Fantasy 11. Or when I would wait for a group to fill up. I played Nightfire. I know, I KNOW the game isn't the best, and I've watched sooo many reviews on it to feel my nostalgic thirst for an old time favorite. But goddamn, it was my comfort game for a long time. That mission with the snipers, and you crawl through the abandoned power plant. I remember in high school asking my crush out, and her rejecting me. And how I spent that night working through that mission. It's just so baked into my head, this weird dream. Almost liminal how this game was so involved during my high school years. And if I think of playing it while I played Final Fantasy 11, that means it was previous to WoW coming out. WoW gave me a lot of great memories. But WoW didn't come out until after high school. -- I missed that Playstation train, so when people talk about Tomb Raider or Final Fantasy 7, Twisted Steel as their childhood games, I wasn't playing those ones. I had Nintendo. Super Nintendo in elementary school. Mario and Donkey Kong. DK2 has so many elementary school memories. Middle school was Golden Eye, Donkey Kong 3d. Command and Conquer. High School was Xbox, Nightfire, Final Fantasy 11, Warcraft 3. -- I wish Josh Strife would cover Earth and Beyond, because I can't seem to find any good videos covering it. And I played that game for what feels like 3 months before quitting, lol...
This is the best 007 game since Goldeneye. It may not be perfect, but I have so many good memories. Me and my cousin would play the multiplayer all the time. We use to put a huge book separating each screen, so that each one did not know where the other was
Thanks for the excellent content. For this old of a game, the space helmet call overlay effect is absolutely stunning. I missed out on playing this back in the ol high school days but looks like Imma have to give it a download later!
i didn't have this one but i had agent under fire and spent so many hours playing 4 player split screen, low gravity, 300x speed, and grapple hooks and gold guns..
I may have spent too much time with my brother on the 2 player co-op mode for the campaign that game had. Funny little gem I only bought because I liked the books back then but even today I remember how fun sharing a campaign was.
Nightfire, Everything or Nothing, and From Russia with Love, are some of the games I remember most fondly from my childhood. My brother and I used to play bot matches in Nightfire almost every day.
I have quite a bit of nostalgia for Agent Under Fire and Nightfire, and even just seeing the video title makes me want to play them again. Regarding the opening segment showing some other 007 games after Rare's Goldeneye, it's worth noting that the N64 version of The World Is Not Enough was received much better than the Playstation version - there are significant differences in the level design between both versions, and the N64 one actually has multiplayer. It's a game I've been willing to try.
While me and my friends were too young to really enjoy goldeneye, we had this on gamecube. We played split screen multiplayer on this game so much that the original disc went bad and we had to get a second copy. The amount of time this game took me to beat the harder levels on singleplayer was crazy especially on the harder difficulties. I even found one of the guides for this game recently and ive been tempted to play through it using the guide. Such a nostalgic game for me, and considering it was a franchise tie in game (not specifically for any movie, but the last game in the brosnan line of james bond games I believe) and what a Gem of a game it was. This and Goldeneye are two of the best Bond games. I know people will say agent under fire but Nightfire was better. Also the name is badass. Edit: I looked it up, everything or nothing released in '04 and that I believe was the last brosnan based bond game. From russia with love was connery, and I stopped paying attention after that. Edit2: Its the Prima official Strategy Guide for 007 Nightfire
Commenting in the beginning, but I loved the multiplayer. Never really played the campaign though. Just standing on opposite ends of the map launching the remote rockets or Oddjob's hat across the map trying to kill the other person is some of my favorite gaming memories from high school
The Bond game on the N64 “The world is not enough” was one of my favorites due to it having BOTS to fight so I could practice and beat my older brothers in golden eye 😂
Perfect dark was the upgraded version of goldeneye, with the option to have 8 simultaneous combatants in multiplayer, with 4 humans and 4 bots, and the bots can go to such difficulty, they were literal aimbots, one glance that "blink and you miss", some if not all times you just dropped dead and never knew what killed you so fast But tranquilizers, when applied to humans made their sight blurry, when applied to bots made their aim go haywire and walk randomly (we lovingly named that gun "the dancer")
It might be worth playing Agent Under Fire for comparison honestly. It followed a lot of the same beats like the gadgets, Bond moves, and the progression between on foot, driving, and on rails levels. The Nightshade character was also first introduced in Agent Under Fire, which is probably why she showed up in Nightfire for five mintues and then disappeared without a trace lol. The multiplayer didn't have the mini vehicles or quite as memorable maps, but it had some crazy modifiers, and you could use gadgets like the grapple phone whenever and wherever you wanted. Flying around with the grappling hook and low gravity turned on was an absolute blast as a kid.
007 Nightfire was absolutely amazing. My favorite 007 game by far. The multiplayer with friends couch co-op was magical. I would spend entire summers playing this lol.
Ohhhh yes! Man I miss the days of 007 games, I still have very fond memories of playing Everything or Nothing, Agent Under Fire, and From Russia With Love on ps2. Also, Roger Moore is the best Bond hands down. I won’t hear otherwise.
The bond move mechanic is pretty cool. Early Assassin's Creed did something similar where you got more mission completion points by doing specific actions that were more in character with what the main character would have done in that time
Pierce Brosnan will forever be the "perfect Bond" in the looks department, damn if he was playing Bond today we would be like Henry Cavill for boomers and gen X....and probably for every other age group! Also you unlocked memories of too many hours spent on Agent Under Fire 4 player split screen multiplayer in a 29 inch CRT tv. Meaning each individual screen was as big as a notepad and for sure none of my friends were screen snipping each other. Same with the Eragon game having 2 player co-op in the campaign. As a fan of the books that´s the only good thing that came out of that movie ^^
@@budyll1 not according to my mom and gran 😂 (and my personal taste). My gran specially comparing him to previous Bonds said he was wooden and lacked the charm of Connery but had a face to kill for 😂
@@mafiousbj he was the least handsome Bond actor ever in my opinion. He only beat Niven (1967 Casino Royale Bond), because Niven was your typical Brit guy face-wise, so not handsome in the slightest.
Brosnan was the 'action figure' Bond. If you described James Bond and a Bond movie to a person who'd never watched one, they'd probably visualise someone like Brosnan's Bond. His run was okay, but very generic (if you class Bond as his own genre).
Nah, Goldeneye 64 was easily the best. This is probably second though. It's not as tight as Goldeneye, but it hits the Bond stuff so well compared to other games, together with the Need for Speed car sequences. It compiles the cool concepts from the Everything or Nothing game into a more solid package too!
My favourite memory with my very best friend is playing Nightfire multiplayer and messing around with the bots and swinging around the map like Spiderman!! Best memories ever!

I didn't expect you to cover this one! The PS2 James Bond games were a core part of my childhood! I spent so many hours on that Skyrail map having snipe-offs with my friends from opposite buildings.
Nightfire on PC, at least in multiplayer was really fun back when this game was newly released. I wish this multiplayer experience could come back to 2024 or even 2025.
I don't think my young self ever went beyond the second (third?) mission on PC where you had to stealth through the military base in the snow. Horrible, especially for a kid like me that didn't speak English back then
It isnt bad. The problem i have is the hit mechanics on enemies. You shoot bullets at them and they fall down but there is no reaction on the spot you shoot which makes it really hammy and unrealistic. Ironically the much older goldeneye was a lot more advanced with this. Any part of the body you shoot reacted very well. Just made so much more believable.
Core memory unlocked! Man I had forgotten all about Nightfire. My friend had Nightfire on his PS2 and i would always go round my friends house with my brother and we’d play 4 player with my friends sister. The 4 of us played this for hours and hours on end! Best sleepovers ever.

I didn't play it until sometime much later on, though I can't think when as it was about 20 years ago).
I did see some videos of people that were just clipping through things for no reason and I never had that issue happen. I still have the retail 2 CDs somewhere.
"...this is the level where..." I exactly knew what he was going to say. Never have I felt so exposed.
He just called me right out.
11 year old me did the same...
Honestly the most accurate point in the entire video.
I think most of us stared at….things on that level. 😂
We all had a moment like that. I didn’t play this game, but I spent a lot of time looking at things in Time Splitters 2. >_>
@@HumanPerson_finalalso things in Soul Calibur 2 🤣
Playing Nightfire split screen multiplayer is some of my earliest memories in gaming
Same 🥹🥹
So much nostalgia for this game. The first mission of the story, playing split screen with friends.. so good
I got really good at not screen looking, was never sure if my m8s did the same tho 😆
Nightfire was the first game we ever had tournaments of in primary school.
Pro-tip (like 25 years late)
But you can stick those remote sticky grenades to the barrel of a turret then forget about it.
I finally just beat that level thanks to you.
@@CatalystOfFire I'm glad some trial and error gameplay from ~8 year old me can help someone 20 years hence!
The cheat SLEEPY makes the tranq darts last twice as long
On the stealth mission with the decoder i didnt know u just held the button down to decodethe locks. Instead id decode each number 1 at a time and write it down to type into the keypads. Got stuck there for wayyy to long
@@oldlemon1087 it's hilarious because I could figure out how to get through that level 20 years ago when I first got the game, but absolutely not yesterday lol
I had this for the GameCube. It was one of my favorite games I had, and I remember spending hours on a multiplayer map (the snow one with the building in the middle of it) and I tried to guide the guided missile launcher into the building as far as I could. I made it to the lobby eventually but couldn’t get past it
Ngl the cutscenes in this game feels like what would happen if Hugh Grant played Bond
We dodged a bullet here... An entire bullet belt, actually.
I really liked Nightfire... I even wrote a walkthrough for it back in the day. Me and friends also played it on multiplayer for aaages. So much fun.
My heart literally throbbed when I saw this title, this game was a remarkable part of my childhood, thank you for covering it ❤
Oh man, I felt the same way. I'm almost too excited to start the video. Like I need to get some food and prepare for a good show.
I've went back and watched reviews on my childhood classic, so I know reviewers have bagged on it, but I'm still interested to hear what Josh has to say
@@nauscakes1868 So did you end up agreeing or disagreeing with his take on it?
@@Nipah.Auauau I thought he was much more positive than some of the other reviews I've seen for the game.
I enjoyed his coverage. I only wish I could play it without buying an outdated console, lol! Maybe one day I'll suck it up and just buy one.
@@nauscakes1868 It's got t be easy to emulate at this point...right?
Should probably get that checked out
You’re probably around my age. I’m 29. I grew up with Nightfire, Agent Under Fire etc
I’m 30 I love this game
@ Yup I’m 30 now too. The old Bond games are the best
The OICW also featured in Soldier of Fortune 2 which came out the same year as Nightfire.
@@bahamut256 Geneva convention doesn't ban 20mm grenades lol, and guess what, 5.56 bullets also cause permanent blindness if they hit someone in the eyes.
I have so many good memories of me and my friends playing on Skyrail, picking Oddjob who weirdly had his hat as a weapon, and one of us would sit at the top and see if we could hit the other with the Hat that homed in to the person at the bottom.
So incredibly fun 😆
--
I missed that Playstation train, so when people talk about Tomb Raider or Final Fantasy 7, Twisted Steel as their childhood games, I wasn't playing those ones.
--
I wish Josh Strife would cover Earth and Beyond, because I can't seem to find any good videos covering it. And I played that game for what feels like 3 months before quitting, lol...
This is the best 007 game since Goldeneye. It may not be perfect, but I have so many good memories. Me and my cousin would play the multiplayer all the time. We use to put a huge book separating each screen, so that each one did not know where the other was
i LOVED this game back then
intresting to see what josh will say
Thanks for the excellent content. For this old of a game, the space helmet call overlay effect is absolutely stunning. I missed out on playing this back in the ol high school days but looks like Imma have to give it a download later!
I appreciate the swiftness of the ad delivery
Same here, usually TH-cam sponsor segments are quite long with people saying the same crap you've heard a million times already.
i didn't have this one but i had agent under fire and spent so many hours playing 4 player split screen, low gravity, 300x speed, and grapple hooks and gold guns..
The Eragon comment unlocked a core memory for me I had totally forgotten about. Please do a video on it!
I had this on GameCube, my sisters and my dad and I would play skyrail for years together, well after the games release. Great memories.
This was one of my favorite games as a kid. Had it on Gamecube and played it a ridiculous amount.
Really loving your Was It Good series. Had never heard of this Bond game before, but it looked really cool!
32:03 Damn, that scream is actually haunting. The VA didn't hold back.
It's always great seeing a new JSH video pop up in my feed.
Great video as always! At 13:30 you mentioned TimeSplitters - any plans on covering the rest of those games? Would be lovely to see a video on them
You unlocked a memory of me playing the ski hut multiplayer level with the bots and the little helicopters!
It's funny it's the only map I remember
There was fort knox and the submarine and the underground bond base but the ski chalet was simply the best.
Commenting in the beginning, but I loved the multiplayer. Never really played the campaign though.
Just standing on opposite ends of the map launching the remote rockets or Oddjob's hat across the map trying to kill the other person is some of my favorite gaming memories from high school
This game was my childhood. Had so many hours into it that after the 4th mission my game was crashing.
I remember playing this game a lot with my friends in split screen, some of the fondest memories of gaming as a kid!
The Bond game on the N64 “The world is not enough” was one of my favorites due to it having BOTS to fight so I could practice and beat my older brothers in golden eye 😂
Perfect dark was the upgraded version of goldeneye, with the option to have 8 simultaneous combatants in multiplayer, with 4 humans and 4 bots, and the bots can go to such difficulty, they were literal aimbots, one glance that "blink and you miss", some if not all times you just dropped dead and never knew what killed you so fast
But tranquilizers, when applied to humans made their sight blurry, when applied to bots made their aim go haywire and walk randomly (we lovingly named that gun "the dancer")
One thing I hated as a kid was how the back of the box teased a weapon that was cut from the game. I spent hours trying to find it back then.
Early Assassin's Creed did something similar where you got more mission completion points by doing specific actions that were more in character with what the main character would have done in that time
Bond girl: " why do you always end up on top?"
Bond: "because I'm Xenia..." 😎🤨(Cue Bond theme).
That’s gonna go over so many heads 😂
@@Link-ik4ww RIGHT?!?!!
Holy shit. Took me a while... Well done.
Josh should be the next James Bond
Josh got a really nice sleeved vest for this video, wow!
Fun fact with the "Shaken not stirred" thing. That actually dilutes the alcohol, apparently. Bond is keeping sharper.
The VHS/Betamax joke got a full out loud laugh. Great vid - loved playing this game, especially the multiplayer!
Nooo you cannnnt Dmca was funnier 😂😂😂
Multiplayer, the docks map, trip mine, and grapple hook, man so much fun. Didn't realize how we we're living in the good old days
Both Roger Moore and Sean Connery were far more handsome.
@@jacobturnerart I didn't like a single Bond movie starring Brosnan.
Look so forward to these videos its actually insane
Love your works so much ♥
The amount of fine detail you can do in these old games is mind blowing.
The best 007 game. Would love to see it on PS5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch
@@DantesGrill Eh, Everything or Nothing was great too.
@@DIEGhostfish it is! But I only borrowed it from a friend as a kid so I'm not sure if it's a "the grass is greener on the other side" situation
My favourite memory with my very best friend is playing Nightfire multiplayer and messing around with the bots and swinging around the map like Spiderman!! Best memories ever!
I was in the middle of typing a snarky 'Henry Cavill from Wish' joke when Josh beat me to it, much like James Bond besting the movie's villain moments before he pushes a button to blow up all the Queen's corgis. Damn you, Josh Strife Hayes! Damn you!
I want that to be the plot in a bond parody
I didn't expect you to cover this one! The PS2 James Bond games were a core part of my childhood! I spent so many hours on that Skyrail map having snipe-offs with my friends from opposite buildings.
0:37 You and I, sir, are unique amongst the human race in that we agree that Pierce Brosnan is the best Bond.
Count me in with that. I also think Goldeneye is by far the best Bond film. At least so far.
@@markdonovan8884 I'm sure it's because I grew up with him, but Pierce just strikes me as the correct blend of charisma and competence.
This video was definitely a *BOND MOVE,* _007._
I guess you missed TWINE for N64? Way better than PS1 version
Probably the best James bond theme to ever release. It’s such a banger, I listen to it unironically every now and again.
DMCA avoided with class, good job Agent josh
Nightfire on PC, at least in multiplayer was really fun back when this game was newly released. I wish this multiplayer experience could come back to 2024 or even 2025.
Was it good on GameCube? Yes.
Was it good on PC? Fuck no.

Man, I haven't heard anyone use the word "choice" like that in ages. What a throwback, choice as.
I used to wake up early to play this game before school. Loved this one

Core memory unlocked! Man I had forgotten all about Nightfire. My friend had Nightfire on his PS2 and i would always go round my friends house with my brother and we’d play 4 player with my friends sister. The 4 of us played this for hours and hours on end! Best sleepovers ever.
man, the only thing I can remember about this game is how much skyrail I use to play. like the story was super vaguely familiar-ish but I can still remember the layout of skyrail almost perfectly even after all these years. was the only map we ever played on multiplayer

I have fond memories of the snowy castle in Austria on Christmas day, Loved that level.
i also had both those vhs tapes, and this game as well as agent under fire. nostalgia achieved
Gotta wonder where the American agent plays into the 3 bond girls formula lol. I never played this one but did play Agent Under Fire on the PS2 and really enjoyed it.
I've never seen a James Bond movie and still think of Pierce first when anyone says 007.
This is peak nostalgia for me. This game made 7 year old me FEEL like James Bond. I remember replaying the levels over and over to try and be sneaky and try new things. The part on the Japanese levels where the ninjas kill the guy you're trying to save is a core memory of mine, once I saw that I knew this game meant business. Damn what I'd give to be that kid playing this again.
