- How does Airaid design their Throttle Body Spacers? Cameron Evans visits the Airaid Filter Company in Phoenix, Arizona and gets inside the design, application and installation of one of the most popular throttle body spacers on the market. Check out this and other Airaid parts at www.summitracin....
I have an airaid intake and spacer it gave me a little hp but when I put the airaid sticker on to support my intake it gave me about 150 hp
Its a joke bro
Dominique Williams don't forget the vtec stickers, gives you 50 hp
+Dominique Williams if you get the neon stickers they add 300 hp. lol
haha. put me down for two stickers
Dominique Williams yep I had the same result lol
I installed one of these along with an Airaid CAÍ on my 1994 Chevrolet Cheyenne and it definitely improved the overall performance, torque, and hp of my pickup. I noticed the difference driving from California to Colorado with stock parts and then making the same drive with the spacer and cai. The difference was 2 full tanks of gas less than the first time. It could of also helped that I installed a cover on the bed so it reduced drag as well. I recommend installing the two items on your vehicle. It pays its self off in the long run just by saving you gas and improving the engine life.
It would be an interesting pairing of parts. Unfortunately our suspicion is that because both parts do the same thing; that is, spin the air for best cylinder fill; your results will probably not be shocking. The fact that you have received a seat of the pants improvement from one product shows that there is always room for improvement if you’re willing to put in the time, effort & investment! Good luck!!
i purchased an air raid cold air intake and the poeraid throttle body spacer and i can see tons of improvements with performance and gas mileage as well. it really makes my 97 f150 haul ass now. i know for a fact i gained at least 25 hp and around 40 ft lbs of torque and 5-6 mpg better...best investment ive made for my truck.
stfu
I know the spacer works. I have one on my 93 Chevy Truck. You can feel the extra torque and faster acceleration. I love the whistling sound it makes.
just installed a TBS on my 07 Colorado and it did exactly what they claim it will, some low end torque and a whistle. must say i am pleased and a believer. and did get it from summit.
I'd like to know if all the people talking bad about TBS even purchased the product? and if so what were they really expecting?
Awesome info I can't wait to install this on my F150 5.4L FX4
timothy jeanal ,
Thank you for watching. Please let us know if you have any questions.
If you don't put the sticker on the left fender. You want get any more hp.
Spacers raise the carb or TBI to create a larger intake plenum volume. Some engines like more volume, some don't. The results can be zero, or sometimes more than 20 hp, but it all depends on what the engine wants, not what you think it needs.
You need to stop smoking crack.
@@blackericdenice lmao!
@@MustangGuy2000 I guess he don't know who I am.
I just installed it on my 2013 Grand Cherokee 3.6L and what I got is an increase in the range of about 200 KM that is 125 miles per tank. and if that is what I get from it, then I'm happy with the purchase.
Hi Mohamed Galal,
Thank you for sharing your experience!
Is your tank 100 gallons? 125 extra miles to a tank is a bold claim. Because I don't believe, nor have I ever seen any spacer give you back anything more than about 1 mpg at best.
Sorry but you were either paid to say that or your smoking something.
Hey Chevy Silverado,
We are sorry to say we do not have an answer to your question. You should contact Airaid directly for help on this one. Thanks for watching!
I just installed one on my 2008 Mustang 4.0L...Modded (70MM BBK TB, S&B CAI, PYPES Shorty headers, STRAIGHT PIPE, Superchips Flashpaq 91 Octane tune. After installing and letting the vehicle idle for 15-20 min., taking it for a spin, RPM's upon stopping kept jumping back and forth from 1500-2500, until the ECM adjusted itself, so this part obviously does something. I do notice better throttle from stop to go...although not a great gain as far as HP (minuscule), there is a noted difference.
I installed a c&l cold air intake on my 94 gt with a 76mm maf, bbk 65mm tb. And man did tht thing whistled! Im thinkin the tbs does work in its own way.
I agree i have a poweraid throttle body spacer on my 4.0 jeep I6 with a K&N cold air intake and I have felt noticeable power gains as well as torque. I installed my tb spacer along with a hypertech maxx energy programmer so my opinion may be skewed but all the same I love the 2k rpm whistle.. I pretend its a turbo!
So far, I've only used spacers on carberated engines. I can tell a difference between using one, and not using one. They allow more air to mix with the fuel, before it reaches the combustion chamber, allowing a more cleaner burn. Without the spacers on my 292, 302, 355, and 400, I noticed takeoff was kinda "boggy". But after raising the carberators 1" with a spacer, I had more torque and no "bogging". I could also tell a huge difference in mileage too, because the carbs weren't getting as hot.
@boomstickkid Yeah my brother has the same problem with his 4.8 he has a fan in the way ... you could try putting your stock air intake hose back on and used just the filter for the other end but i still dont know if the stock would clear the fan with the throttle body spacer.
If this was the case, why don't the vehicle manufacturers put this in from the factory?
kingdavewoody Well they DO put SS exhaust systems on from the factory. But putting a small spacer between the throttle body is not equivalent of those 'expensive' systems you mentioned.
People seem to think that extending the intake length is the same as widening the intake. All you're doing is extending the distance that air has to travel to the engine.... If you want more air widen the intake system to allow more air at once.
That want help either because the TB is not the restriction.
He said in the video that its best performance is above idle and 3000 rpm.
It's a very simple concept really. The goal (like chargers) is to increase oxygen velocity so that more of it is available for combustion at any given time (increasing the limiting reagent and shifting the reaction to the right). The grooves on the spacer do this by increasing the centripetal velocity of the molecules while keeping their linear velocity constant and in turn increasing the increasing the effective velocity. Which has more power per capita, straight line winds or a tornado?
@WestCarolina1861 If that was the case then there wouldn't be a need for any aftermarket parts as they would all be engineered into the vehicle.
Throttle body spacers were made for carb vehicles as a device to separate the heat from the motor and the carburetor...in this vehicles case where it's efi anyways you literally just made you're intake about a half inch longer but now with that "Vortex" obstructing your natural flow of air in the intake it will most likely lose power not gain..hence "UP TO 30HP" that way they don't have to deal with a lawsuit when you don't gain a thing.
@lamiac2411 Problem is along with a cold air intake people think that's all there's to it. What you really need is a functional Ram Air Hood to get any benefit at all with this kind of install. This allows incoming air to pass directly through the intake into the engine. This doesn't come cheap and will set you back a couple grand with all the body and prep work. Although it is well worth it. I have a Chevy Silverado V8 with custom Dual Scoop & heat extractor works great!!
i had one on my jeep jk. didn't feel any difference in performance after switching from stock, spacer, stock, spacer and back to stock over a few months. the only difference i found was i gained 1mpg by removing my tb spacer. no more whistle too! i added a bigger throttle body and that help. gained another 1mpg and awesome bottom end for wheeling
My tbs has FLOW pointed in the wrong direction. When I followed the stamped air flow direction the inlet is not concaved but a flat one. The concaved one is the outlet. Actually made my truck slower after tbs install. Read in Amazon reviews some tbd batches might be stamped wrong, reversed the tbd and truck response worked way better. Quality control?
Most people don't realize that your CPU has to be retuned to work with all your new parts before you'll notice any real difference... I'm not saying you have to get a tuneup every time u buy a part I'm getting all my parts and not even putting them on till I have a few... Then I'll go get it tuned... Then later if I add more I'll wait a bit an then do it again...
im a racer from Mexicali and a recently buy one of this, wait for results
You should feel an improvement in throttle response. The actual performance gains are slim and you might not feel it. The only true way to gauge any improvement would be to take it to the track and get before and after ¼ mile times.
I wonder if this would show any improvement over supercharged engine? Centrifugal aftermarket supercharger...procharger to be exact.
If you have a cold air system then they will help more than with a stock paper filter intake..
I got one the other day and it didn't make a difference in power and has a loud whistle. It's on a 2005 gmc canyon. I'm taking it off and returning it. Before I return it I'm going to do two runs at night 30miles both ways with and without it to see if there is a difference in gas mileage.
YZ250Yamaha969 if it whistles you put it on backwards
@westcarolina1861 The air swirling action would not need to reach the combustion chamber as long as the air/fuel mixed before entering. The swirling would stay into action because unlike before their isnt a smooth airflow airflow and supposedly this now rapid air flow causes a better mix of air and fuel before entering the combustion chamber and burning a better and faster combustion compared to the mix entering as loose molecules not burning as efficient. But I still have my doubts..
ooooh by twisting the air I am impressed.
I want to go with a 4 Barrel Throttle Body (Fast) to blend the looks of a classic, Muscle Car engine while keeping the engine Emission Legal (Albuquerque, NM). The truck has been my daily driver since '98 W/original engine, tranny, and rear end. I've installed a few bolt-ons (MSD W/6A Box/Blaster 2/8.5 Wires, 160 Degree Thermostat, Edelbrock Headers W/3" Dual Exhaust, TBS, Be Cool Radiator, and Hypertech Programming). The internals are still stock, so any help would be appreciated thank you.
Hey their, i have a 07 tundra and bought the tbs, how do i know if i have the throttle body spacer the wrong way? ive tried it both ways and i can hear the whistle either way. i bought the taylor tbs though. And will my car mess up if its incorrect? Also i have it installed and for some reason my rpms are in between 1.5-2 wich is abnormal any suggestions? asap please
We put it on the Dino and got 8 extra foot pounds of torque and only like one horsepower at the crank Maybe a 1/2 of horsepower But the point is we got it off the line have the power at the Wheels
Airaid has a full line of Poweraid Throttle Body Spacers for all types of engines including inline 4 cylinder engines. Click on the link in the description box (you may have to select see more for the link to appear), then narrow down to your specific application using the specs to the left of the screen. Please let us know if you have any additional questions. Thanks for watching!
Would a spacer be effective on my Chevrolet Blazer with a 4.3 Vortec with MFI? I've heard many mixed reviews and have been thinking of getting one for a while
Would you be able to answer a question for me?? I've been searching all over the Internet to find someone who can custom make a TBS for my specific application. After many looooonnnnnnggggg hours, I seem to have come up empty handed. What I have is a '96 Chevy S-10, SS W/4.3 (Vortec). I currently have a 1" TBS from Street & Performance Electronics. It works beautifully, but I have a new problem. After much thought, I want to upgrade the intake manifold W/4 Barrel TB. What are my options??
is there dyno numbers to back up these claims?
EUPHORIA BEYOND Nope, Because it doesn't do anything at all but add some color under the hood. A waste of $130 bucks!
I have a 2014 Ram 1500, 5.7L V8. I recently purchased an Airaid CAI and a Airaid PowerAid TBS. Is there any benefit/drawback to installing them together, i.e. will there be additional power gains with both over just one? Thank you.
Hi Bo Jankles,
If purchased at Summit Racing Equipment within the last 90 days, you can return the NEW & UNUSED product for a refund.
Do these give the 4.3's any power? or are they a waste of money
most forum said they don't work, Throttle Body Spacer need to be at least 1 foot long to effective.
Ok these are my results. With power aid I got 22.6 mpg and without it I got 23.1 mpg. It was done on a closed corse that I did 2 laps at15 miles each and used the same pump. Then I put it on a dyno that would read torque at rpms. Got 5lbs LESS at2000 rpms with the poweraid. But 2lbs at 4000 rpms. I'm returning the product.
Well said!
It it helps so much why doesn't the NHRA allow it on their 6000hp cars?
I have a brand new 2014 Ram 1500 5.7 Tradesman (my work horse). I'm not really looking for huge performance changes, I'm looking for better fuel mileage, How much of a change is this kind of tech really going to help? Thanks.
BEWARE! I put one of these on my friends civic and it did a back flip and was totaled, now I am being sued.
i have a Cold air intake on my 2000 silverado 5.3, im looking to get a spacer but it seems if i do it will push the boot into the fan/ fan cover.. any else have any input on this?
If your fan hits the air boot, that's bad
Do these actually make a whistling sound? My truck has one and it whistles at certain RPMs. Can't figure out. Had a guy tell me it was the throttle body spacer. It's a lm7 5.3. Thanks...
+xXTHECARGUYXx,
A slight whistle at part throttle is to be expected especially if used with a cold air intake kit that has an open element air filter.
Are there any differences between airraid , k&n or Afe air a spacer systems? Beside the price!
timothy jeanal ,
We would suggest comparing any dyno results given by each manufacturer for your application, then make your choice.
Yes the color
You need to stop lying to people. God is going to remember all of your lies.
@ boomstickkid if it's a K&N don't do it, they aren't compatible with the airaid spacers. i have a spacer and poweraid cold Air intake on my 01 Wrangler and the K&N hit the top of my hood when i used it. tray one from AEM or Banks Automotive.
Does it work on a '67 Rambler?
However, I don't see how puting on a throttle body spacer will do anything. On throttle body engines, fuel is delivered with injectors, straight to the lower part of the intake. The only thing I see a TB spacer doing, is changing the mass air volume, prior to air/fuel mixing. If you're going to increase your mass air flow, then you may want to put in bigger injectors as well. But I guess it all comes down to what your ECM will allow your engine to do, otherwise it'll throw trouble codes.
I've done everything to my 2008 Jeep Commander that I have possibly been able to do. I can't help but wonder if this would add any power to my set up at all? Currently I clock 7.34 0-60 times and 15.2 second 1/4 mi. runs at 90 mph. Any help on this device for my application would be nice.
Hi *****,
Keep in mind that most manufacturers engineer their parts for the showroom stock vehicle. If you have other manufacturers parts on there, your results will most likely vary from any testing done by that manufacturer.
Summit Racing
I'm not expecting a part like this to really work actually. That's why I'm trying to find decent feedback on it. If I could just get the low end of an extra 5 lb/ft. of torque off idle and that kinda cool whistling sound out of it, I'd be willing to try it. I'm reading mixed reviews on this product, saying mixed I mean mostly bad actually.
if you want this thing to work it needs to be a meter long for it to do anything it just takes up space
Although this thing did give me huge throttle response I know it didnt do much for power on my 99 XJ, but it did give some better mpg. But for anyone out there would it be possible to combine this spacer with the Tornado air, the one thats actually proven for better mpg's? or would a mixture of these 2 just be a giant cluster f*ck of air intake to the engine?
Do you think it would hurt performance if you have a supercharger on your vehicle already
Juan Trujillo,
Performance would not be hurt
but, due to the fact that you are forcing air into the motor with the
supercharger, a spacer will likely not yield any noticeable power gain.
sir raid throttle body spacer 13 ram
If I added like 10 of these together I bet I'd blow the tires right off the rims!!!
Thank you! I can't seem to understand why so many people want to spend their whole life analyzing something like a TBS?? If they have doubts about a TBS ability to make more power, then they should at least be willing to perform a dyno test to put any doubts to rest.
The ONLY reason this spacer saves gas is because it is smaller than the throttle body opening thus causing a restriction and 'better' fuel economy. It's basically a restricter plate. We dynoed my 2015 RAM HEMI and we actually lost top end HP. Gained absolutely NO TORQUE whatsoever. It's a hoax. And expensive one to say the least.
+juniorloz Thats because you have a direct port injected motor, throttle body spacers actually do help tbi systems.
Dude you are in a Dam Pickup NOT A Car. And to make matters worse, your in a Dodge 😂😂😂😂😂
+Mr. Big Man we should race, and please tell me what the difference is between having a truck and a car? I'm pulling 10.8 in my truck, so again, how is this different?
My balls long
+Mr. Big Man thought so
@FURYMUSTANG
Isn't that the case currently? What aftermarket parts are on the market currently that give an equal balance in power, fuel efficiency and engine life?
Furthermore, literally hundreds of dyno tests are on the internet showing throttle body spacers do absolutely nothing on Fuel Injected vehicles. Unless you'd like your Stang to whistle.
will affect on a 97 jeep Cherokee
@AntDX316 correct
i think when people put bolt ons on the truck or car they think that it will make their car do a mile long burn out and you will have so much torque that it will break your neck... these bolts on will give you hp and trq but not enough to tell just by stomping on the gas.. run your stock car or truck at the strip then put all the bolt ons you can then run again your time will be faster but yet you dont feel much faster.. if you want to break your neck with power get a turbo or supercharger.
I have an 08 silverado 5.3 and my pedal sticks when I floor it sometimes so I did some research and I think it's the throttle body that is gunned up causing the problem. I had a check engine light for knock sensor codes so I got those all replaced no more knock sensor codes but still the check engine light I believe due to a dirty throttle body. would it be worth putting a spacer on while I already have the tb off? please help me out with any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have a stock intake but am running a 3 inch exhaust to a y pipe with dual mufflers. thank you for any input is greatly appreciated. I'm a plumber not a mechanic lol
TBS improves throttle response.
i want one for my r18 civic i cant find one in this brand.
Joemama Productions then go get a real car.
EUPHORIA BEYOND best answer ever 😂😂😂. Although, vara ram is great company... and they don't make a tb spacer for a ls1 and stopped for ls2 bc at best made 1whp and that's hard to really market. bc back to back dyno will change by 1-3 whp. better off just porting your intake and tb! nuff said!
Mine doesn't have a logo on it?
A 1 Inch spacer adds more air into the engine. More air = more fuel that can be burned which = more horsepower. Simple as that.
They're only useful AFTER the throttle body, otherwise the butterfly part of the TB just stops the air from spinning.
Now if someone could make a gear drive for my '98 5.2L, I'd be happy.
Any air "swirling" is lost before even getting combustion chamber. Also you aren't mixing the fuel and air any better because the fuel is not introduced until just behind the intake valve.
People, TBS DO WORK. Dyno sheets show that it increased the power on a 5.3L Vortec by 6hp and 8ft.tq. Add the Airaid CAI, it was 22hp and 24ft.tq. so stfu haters. go drive your corolla around.
Throttle body spacer .if you get the right one do work airraid is thé same as k&n they twist thé air like atornado air and gas mixing together makes it more effective in combustion chamber .wich means less wasted gas .thé power gain comes from better combustion not more gas .to. get thé full affect you need coldair intake and spacer
HOLY SHIT IT COMES WITH HARDWARE TOO!?
@FURYMUSTANG
Derp?
Mine didnt have the logo or anything on it. No arrows engraved to show which direction to install it either. No whistle. Waste of $130 from AM!
think about it for one second what the hell is spacing the throttle body going to do
TBS do nothing people at least for the v6. I do know for certain v8's such as the 4.7l these did some some performance gain. But better chances than not u will see no gain at all
You need to install one, then perform a dyno before you can say a TBS does not work! Have you done that???????
I haven't purchased any of their products for my Volvo 240 or my (totalled by gf 2nd time driving it) S60-R, but I've lived here in AZ for 20+ years and the guys who I go to to tell me if something is legit or bs, say its legit, but it's costly (4 my broke ass), this is something for people who love their cars. Who've taken them as their suckling baby kittens from factory spec, or as abused three legged dogs from assholes who don't care about their cars,* about baby kittens and PB Blaster lac
I have an AIRAID CAI and a PowerAid TB Spacer on my vehicle which I had to take off because I do not have the CARB compliant stickers required for them so the car won't pass smog due to this. I have called AIRAID multiple times asking for CARB #'s for these items and each time I have been told that someone would look into it and get back to me or in a couple of instances, been transferred around to different people only to reach their voice mail and had to leave a message. Not once has anyone returned my call. I will never purchase anything from AIRAID again and I'm letting everyone else know the horrible customer "NO" service experience I have had with AIRAID. If they can't bother to return my call or get me to the right person without transferring me around only to get voice mail, than screw them. I'm not spending another penny on their products.
Hi Steve 953209, we are very sorry to hear that you have had trouble reaching us and are dissatisfied with our customer service. Your experience is highly unusual because not only does a live person pick up the phone when you call our facility during normal business hours (no telephone trees), any of our customer service representatives are trained to handle CARB EO decal requests. As a result, there should not have been any need to be shuffled around to a specific person or leave a message. Further, we do our best to ensure there is very little if any wait to speak to a CSR. If a CARB EO # is available for the product(s) in question, all we require is a picture of the product installed on the vehicle in order to send a decal free of charge, and we are required to receive this picture as proof of product installation by law. We would encourage you to contact us again at 800-498-6951 and ask for Mark, who is our head CSR. Again, we are sorry to hear about your negative experience but we look forward to having the opportunity to make it right.
Should of read the comments before buying.... Just causes a vacuum leak in my vtec motor ..
That is false! You are adding more air into the manifold, which allows the engine to take in more fuel which creates more power. But of course that's what making horsepower is all about now isn't it??
If you have a shiity truck or car to begin with You probably wont be impressed with aftermarket mods, like spacers You at least have to have a vehicle with a good amount of HP and suspension feedback to begin. These parts are best to be used on sport cars or sport trucks only.
@InfamousJattStudios heck no it's really a scam I don't like trolling but its the truth
This guy should be arrested for lying about tbs. The only thing they do is add space. 35hp? Name one car that come from the maker with a tbs?
If anyone should be arrested, it should be you because of that dirty ass room with all them dirty ass mattresses laying up against the law when you did that video with no dyno tests other than you just running your mouth. Clean that shit up man. You should be ashamed of yourself.
@WestCarolina1861 Why must I waist my breath to whistle when i can get my car to whistle, I wont be getting my breath back...plus I'd probably get slapped inthe face. Now if you explain to the girl that your car likes her so much its whistling at her, then perhaps you'd have a better chance of getting her number.
Oh and the aftermarket is here only to improve performance in either power, or fuel economy. The car manufactures take care of the balance part until your engine breaks down,
False! They improve the horsepower by 8 on the 4.3, and they improve the fuel mileage also!
do they really
What dyno tests?? Show me proof, and then I will show you my dyno test proving it gave my engine an 8 horsepower gain!
SPACERS ARE A PLACEBO MY FRIENDS, GET A REAL INTAKE REPLACEMENT. THEY WORK BETTER.
Their website states that their spacers are 50 state legal yet I received mine for my honda accord only to find out its NOT LEGAL in CALIFORNIA...waste of money with this company
Snake oil
Lets see an independent dyno test prove it. This is bs just like cold air intakes
***** I'll bet you can't use a tool you asswipe
you are a asswipe. cai is bs because all the air in the world stops at the throttle body and only that amout of air can get by it. The only way is to force extra
air through is with a turbo or blower.
oh and btw this means power: Power = Work / time . Not kaboom what are you in 3rd grade?
speedwayaudio3 Actually I have a cold air intake, K&N specifically, and every component besides the clamps are plastic including the tube...
dont get this if u have a GM vortec engine. this does the same thing
snake oil
Really? The only way to check? You couldn't, say, dyno the damn thing before and after?
lol because CAI's aren't dyno proven...
Typical response from someone unwilling to get his feet wet. Install one, then do a dyno to find out if they work.
start a lawsuit if they are lies
