  • Join me for a hunt for some petrified wood at the beautiful Conway river which forms the border between Canterbury and Marlborough. I find some stunning pieces of petrified wood, including 3 quite large pieces!
    Thanks Kowai for organising the outing!

    All my finds get a good wash and then a good long soak in mineral oil. This brings out lines and colors that aren't noticed when you first find them. Then I wipe them clean and keep them in their natural state as I do all my rock finds. What a huge colorful beauty (s) you found. Nice!

      I've used mineral oil before, I've found it does add a nice shine. Mostly I just leave them as is unless I have them cut and polished 😊

    Love petrified wood, especially the pieces that still have the bark on them. Those big pieces are awesome too. Great peaceful spot, just love it all 🤣 thanks again my friend

    I wish I could find petrified wood and agates near where I live. I love watching your videos, both rockhounding and the fossil vids. You get just as excited as I do when I find something cool. You can really tell how much you love this stuff!

    I am a new subscriber coming from Agate Dad's channel. I really enjoyed your searching for the petrified wood, trying to spot the pieces before you picked them up! The close-ups were excellent, including the magnification shots. Beautiful pieces of stone even though my favorite pieces were different from yours!!! LOL Thank you for the interesting video!

      Thanks Frances! I have spotted an enormous piece of petrified wood that I need to go and recover. It's probably 300lbs though! And about 2 miles from where I can park my car 😊 Glad you enjoyed the video!

    3:44 gorgeous shot. Came from the main channel, it just occurred to me to look to see if you didn't have a second one, you should advertise this on the main channel, this is equally interesting.

    Hey there! I've just recently heard about you while I was watching an Agate Dad video, so I popped over to take a look at what you're doing. I visited the La Jolla Tide Pools in San Diego California in 2018, and there were concretions embedded in the sandstone beaches and cliffs nearby, but I had no idea what they were. But after seeing some of your finds, I'm absolutely astonished with what you're revealing inside! Then I notice that you've got another something just for petrified wood and agates, and I see this?! Wow! Excellent!
    @ 12:53 That looks like it was charred by fire before it was petrified! It's an absolutely beautiful specimen! Thanks for sharing your adventures and finds!

    • @mamlamborocks
      @mamlamborocks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does look like it was charred! I'm not sure if it is part of the petrification process or not. I wonder if those concretions in San Diego also had fossils in them? I know not all concretions have something in. Thanks for watching!! 😊
