  • I use my lapidary saw to cut through some agate nodules to see if they have any hidden treasures inside them.

My Papa had a hobby doing lapidary, gardening, animal husbandry and carpentry. Thank you for positively enhancing my day! Small worlds in our rocks.

Gorgeous agates! I could see bands in almost all of them. If you hold a flashlight at a certain angle or on the back side sometimes it will help to see the lighter banding in them. They're all different inside and show bands from different angles. They're definitely beautiful.🤩 Thanks for sharing!✌️🤠

My pleasure Kyla! You're right, most of them had very faint banding!

Love agate… but you just never really know what’s on the inside. 👏👏🇦🇺

You don't! It's all a numbers game, you have to cut so many to find something truly good!

Wow! Those were really interesting! My favorite was the milky looking one as well. That nice quartz pocket with those beautiful bands, what's not to like? And that moss agate was weird. I didnt see moss per se, as much as it looked like a conglomerate that was held together with clear chalcedony. But it could gave bee moss. Its hard when we arent seeing it in person. But most of them are clear chalcedony. And that orange one that lost its orange when cut, is just iron staining. That's sad. It would have been really pretty if the staining would have gone deeper. But its still a nice agate. Thank you for sharing!

I'll have to put that "moss" agate under the microscope to have a look at it as it wasn't translating well to the camera! I love that milky one as well!

You never know till you cut a slice. Sometimes you get more than one Christmas per year! 👍 😃

Oh, neat!! I love all of the delicate, wispy cloud agates at the beginning! And the ultra-moss one was fascinating. It almost looked like granite, and the chalcedony layer flowing over the top put me firmly in mind of museum dioramas showing tectonic layers under the ocean.
Thank you for cutting these and showing us. ^_^ Lots of curiosity fulfilled, there.

It does look like a diorama! I'm glad you enjoyed the cutting, I have a few more large ones to do, I just need to sort out the blade on my larger saw.

Cut enough thin slides to make a stained "glass" window one day ;)

Lo más que he encontrado en dónde yo vivo es un fósil de una hoja pequeña, con una forma muy rara, y lo más raro es que vivo en una ciudad desértica con mucha arena

If you have one with good inclusions you might consider faceting and polishing rather than just cutting it down. It does not have to be like a gem facets just windows to see what is happening inside.
