- In the not-too-distant future, a tenuous peace between humans and remarkably humanlike “machines”-some don’t even know they’re not real-is tested when synthetics begin spontaneously exploding. Why when you use Arabic in films, it is incomprehensible and you use a dialect, such as the Iraqi dialect from 22 other Arabic dialects, it is better if you use classical Arabic or at least a white accent that is understandable and with a clear voice as the English is clear in the film, I'm Arabic speaker I read the CC so I can understand

The CGI on this was impressive given that this is supposed to be low budget... acting was solid as well. Really enjoying these DUST films.

In that area of the world there are many people with hazel and green eyes. Height is just as various as it is in any country. If it is common for women to wear head scarves there, then normally it would be hard to get description of the hair. I do see the point you're trying to make though. I'm sure in places like Sweeden where it is common to be a blue eyed blonde or South Korea where it is common to have dark eyes and black hair you probably pick up on physical features a lot faster than we do in the United States.

Ignore that they kept saying "him" when they were supposed to believe it was "her" and ignore the most amazing military insubordination you could imagine, and beyond that it's a great movie. Great CGI, great acting, exciting, riveting, and just plain interesting. And the actress is smokin'.
They kept saying him because they knew he was wearing her scarf. Why call him a her, if they know it's a him? I mean, he's still helping her, so they're going to try to catch him.

The insubordination was a turn off for me. He asked for permission to fire and then decided to anyways after they said no.
That absolutely *withering* stare of condemnation by the man to the machine at the end gives me chills. Even the border guard robot wilts underneath it, shrinking back from the man a hundred times smaller than it, as if in a moment of guilt by association for the death of the woman who the machines literally made as a living bomb. You get the feeling that the machines crossed a moral line, creating the sleeper people, but, like humans, it took being confronted with the real consequences of their actions for the weight of that act to really sink in.
Great stuff.
The short doesn't ever really explain what the hell was the point of it, though. *why* create sleeper bombs? If the goal is to do damage, they'd do a lot more if they actually walked into something vital before detonation, not just at whatever random location they happened to be in. It actually makes a lot more sense if they weren't actually intended to blow up, but were long term (unknowing) assets, but there was a design flaw. So yeah, this is an excellent short, aside from the entire premise making no sense.
@@jarowan I assume the idea behind the tactic was primarily psychological in nature, rather than physical. They weren't trying to destroy high-priority military targets, they were trying to make people scared. It's the same logic behind terrorist attacks. The goal is fear. The machines wanted humans to fear one another, to be worried that everyone they meet might actually be a replicant bomb, just waiting to go off. As far as psychological attacks go, it's a fairly effective, if vicious one. As long as the machines could sneak these sleeper bombs into the populace, humanity would become wary of crossing them, just to prevent the attacks.
It was only when they were confronted with the real consequences of their "efficient" strategy, however, did the machines show guilt about the tactic, showing just how human they really are.

I truly do not think that was a stare of condemnation. especially since he started walking toward the machine. and what I saw was the machine had finished it's job and was beginning to go back underground.

And I think a better take on the soldiers ignoring direct orders not to fire would be that communications failed. They could not hear orders from the commander, so they fired thinking that was their best option, then when the commander had to take them out, it would have been a gut-wrenching decision for him.

I think it would have been better for maintaining our belief in the authenticity of the Movie, if the Production had gone that way too.
It would have been More believable than the Israeli pilot just rocking off to do His Own thing !

These DUST shorts really are AMAZING! I am hooked on them. I fear that I will soon run out of them. This is the future of sci-fi. I would rather watch a great, short film than a bad, SyFy, pathetic, monster of the week movie. Quality over quantity! DUST!
I know! I just found DUST a few days ago and I am blown away. I used to say about SyFy that their series are good but their movies, not so much. Cheesy CGI effects and plots aside, the acting is...meh.

The "86 dead" was a stretch. His wife and kid were right below him while everyone else ran away and they lived. Hell, they just stood there.
That got my brow raised too. I could believe it if they said something like "7 dead and dozens injured", but 86 dead? There wasn't even half that in the area visible. Dafuq.

English is the most popular and common in the world. English is where Hollywood exists. Where do you Think DUST get their expenses from? Out of the air? There is a money machine somewhere.
Hollywood, like any other selling product, yes, must make a profit, or else there would be no amazing scifi, fantasy, etc., film-making.
English sells. Although I wish other popular languages would, too, this is where it is now and it is very successful.

The acting in this is so good though, almost instantly you could feel the chemistry between two main characters. I love this :)

I assumed they were going after him because he was with her and they didn't know where she was. Which is why they broke off as soon as they found her. But most likely, the people who made this movie don't have English as their first language, so they slipped up a couple times.

I love how the guy on the motorcycle got to the desert faster then the jet powered flying machines.
Those soldiers not following direct commands spoils the whole film for me.

The machines are also pretty stupid. They create an infiltration unit which is indistinguishable from humans, can completely blend in, but occasionally emits blue light for no reason. Also, a suicide bomber robot needs a looooong time warming up before the explosion, emitting a lot of strange light in the process, so its victims have plenty of time to flee...
You have to consider the context of them doing that. There must be an awful lot of overall anger built up in everyone fighting those machines. The result of that is emotional and irrational responses like that, not following command and taking revenge on them where they could.
It happens when human emotions get the better of mediocre minds.

Wow. WOW! Everything about this made me so happy. It's not often that great visual effects and great story complement each other in quite this way. I was heartbroken when the lady died - despite the fact that she never spoke a word of English. The sheer weight and power of the dropships, the image of the scarabs coming up out of the sand, the contrast between the handheld shakycam when on street level and the smooth, steady shots from the control center - wow. Just wow.
I like how there are more foreign language/culture/location stories. Not something you really find on the big screen

That's what happens when one creates a scene for the sake of creating a scene. It's not an organic culmination of emotions, which is why it's so disjointed and nonsensical.

The short film had a good concept, good action sequences and an interesting story.
But the magic of this happens at 18:07. That's exactly where true sci fi happens. A machine looks at him recognizing his suffering for the loss.
At 17:02 the drone machine inclines his metal body as a signature of condolence for the departure. These exactly are the gentle gestures that makes the story amazing.

Dude how have I NOT heard of this channel before? The whole production is freaking awesome and the story makes you think about love, sacrifice, hatred, heart ache, and longing. Do you guys make full length movies?

This was superb. Not clear why so many soldiers disobeyed but not much time to craft the backstory there.

One of the best shorts I've ever seen. Cyberpunk elements, dark future, a war with AI, even a love story with special social ramifications....damn, all that in under 20 minutes. LOVE me some dust by god! Hope you keep these coming and do full length features on shorts like this.

Excellent film. I WANT MORE. That film should have been produced as a full length feature. Amazing how they crammed so much plot into so little time! I am promoting this to everyone I know!

Seems like they should have been referring to him as 'her' and 'she', seeing as how they hadn't realized yet that he had dressed like her to lead them away.
If they'd just continued to refer to him as the 'target', it would not have been an subject of contention!
Wow I thought there was another hour. Forgot this was was a short film. I seriously could go see this in a theatre. Well done.

They did. It was called "The Matrix." This story is taken from the early part of the "Animatrix" history, after the first Machine War when the AI's were sequestered in the middle east desert where they could run on solar power. It looks like this guy was crossing the border at the end of the film, maybe to be the first to get integrated with the Machine energy system in hopes of re-meeting his wife?
This short was really well done. The story's theme as well as some of the music reminded me a lot of the Battlestar Galactica (2004) series, which is always a good thing in my books :)

I was surprised by the CGI and enthralled by the story from the get go. Well done cast, crew, writers and all. Loved it! I do have to say, that if that was my love, I would have died along with them

I think he does, but it is left open
There is no glory in dying together and both being forgotten. If one lives, the other lives on in their memory as well as having a chance to avenge their loved-one's death in the future.

This is brilliant its got pace and tension and its belevable becouse it gives a globel view of a posibble futuer that looks like it's part of the real world that we all live in ! . You have to make this into a full lenth move , A good short story .
This is riddled with modern day geopolitics, and major themes. And I love it!
This was really good! I sometimes think watching DUST short films are much more entertaining than the "boring" films they show on YT.
Awesome! This rivals Netflix and HULU.
