So many shorts seem to have no path, no understandable ending. This is different, old school with a begining, middle and end. This could be the future of our history where nothings changed except our technology. Thanks for a thought provoking work.
The first few seconds into the film and I was like 'man, that ship's detailing is a work of love!' And everything after that, too. This marvelous piece of art is evidence of a tremendous effort, and the team deserve a huge stage! The world is waiting for such treasures!

Giving up his future, the rest of his life for his daughter...the ultimate sacrifice. A truly well told story compressed into an easy to follow, scene to scene affectionate nod to trope and still surprise. I loved it, man!
As a Father I understand the DEEP LOVE that he has for his Daughter, and that he will do ANYTHING to ensure her Safety and Happiness. VERY WELL DONE. Moved me to tears.
He will do anything to make sure his daughter can go to the posh school, even if it means helping enslave hundreds of sentient beings? Not too admirable IMO.
@@macrumpton I saw it as he wanted to be caught, so his daughter could have a better life and he could ensure that all those slaves were freed as well, maybe I was reading into the story, but that is how I saw it based on his non-verbal communication, ie, his eyes, his actions, etc. I could be wrong with my assessment. Anyway thanks for your feedback.
This type of shorts shows that the most important thing in a film of any genre is the story and the human component. The sci fi setting is very well done, but in the end it is the motivations of the characters and their depth that bring any setting to life, be it sci fi or fantasy. A pleasant surprise that reminded me of the Firefly/Serenity style with the Cowboy Bebop sensibility. It deserves to be expanded to a series.

This must have cost you a pretty penny! It is exceptional. One of the few you wish could go on for 2 hours, not 30 minutes. It must be so exhilarating to see your dream become reality when you have the capital to produce high quality sci-fi. Wouldn't it be amazing if Netflix picked you up for a 10 -12 episode series. With your imagination, the possibilities would be a winner. Sci-fi is a difficult genre to master. You knocked it out of the park. Much success to you in your career.
This is nothing short of spectacular! Wonderful story. Great actors. Great characters. Great cinematography. And the visual effects and compositing are astounding! Wonderful music too. I am so impressed and inpired. Bravo!
This is really good, I am impressed at how convincing and layered a used future space opera universe this short film realises on a low budget as well as how much character evolution it fits into a 30 min runtime. Wouldn't mind seeing a longer series set in this universe!
This was pretty well written, including the "Bond Move" to take out the big guy! Also how the daughter's dream came true, just not the way she wanted it to.

A great exemple of what being a parent looks like. The sacrifice and hard decisions you are willing to make for the sake and wellbeing of your child even at times if it means disregarding your own. Not a dad myself, but this is how i see this. Great work! :)❤
what a load of bull, this society what is depicted in here is cruel and unjust... tho they might be thinking of themselves the saviors of the slaves... but what I got from this film is that the government doesn't bother to eliminate the slavers, but they go for the low hanging fruit ... int this case father that had 2 options before hims... to carry some slaves.. or have his daughter and himself becoming a slave in this particular situations... im sure we can blame the father for him flying cargo ship and not living on lustrous planet... oh yeah he didnt have money ..... so be rich or fuck you I guess...
@Mark Bauer I hear what you're saying. But, even though the daughter is getting a great life, all she wanted was to be with him. And what kid doesn't want to be with their parents. So I would venture to say that, bottom line, they both lost. From the father's prospective it was damned if you and damned if you don't so, for his daughter's sake, he took a chance on moving this "cargo" and it came back and bit him. At least he got his daughter set up for a better life.
Brilliant, excellent sfx, great acting, great story, great writing, great sets, and great twists.... Something sadly missing frim cinema and modern shows these days
Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!Outstanding short film. It had my attention right away. I loved the special effects and overall storyline. ( Looks like in the early Firefly films. ) Thank you for sharing with us.
Yea... every time you bring up how good fathers are, people always come in and say things like "not all fathers" or "moms are more important". It's really disheartening to see how unappreciated men are.
He wasn't really a good guy. He tried to reform his life, but still fell back to slave trading. Because of that, even if he saved the lives of those slaves, he caused his daughter even more harm.
I am glad to see something that brings to light the the problems of making decisions and parenting what's best for the child is not always the best for ourselves but the choices that we make we need to live with good or bad
The motives in modern mainstream movies aren't evil. They do have good intentions, mostly. They're just forced onto audiences in ways which are obnoxious, unrealistic, petulant, childish, and misguided.
I have watched so many moving DUST movies but this was in a category all by itself. This looked almost Guardian of the Galaxy like. From the music to the performances to the ageing ship. Well done. May this lead to even greater things. Thank You
Totally AMAZING!! The scenes, background, plots! The storyline, acting, characters! I just cannot believe how a movie like this can be made outside of the giant corporations... I love it!
Great work. Loved it. Would have wished the father would have had a happier ending but made a lot of sense. He did what he could to help his child. And not be vicious by killing the aliens
What can I say? Very high caliber in all regards. Started with great transitions, built up excellent characters and ethically challenging storyline and end in the parental sacrifice. Great stuff guys and gals!
I gotta say, I'm impressed! Very good actors; one of which, I recognized from Van Helsing. The music in the beginning is great! Not that dead dreadful silence, so knew it wasn't going to be alien chest buster filled. The plot and the CGI/VFX were like dayumnnnn! Everything flowed! Keep up the great work brother! Looking forward to seeing more of your work!😎 👍
I love how the scene on the space ship is both futuristic and practical, with the easel and paintbrush, the familiar interior design, and the recognizable smart tablet. Adds to the realism
One of the best I have ever seen on DUST. The opening sequence alone - from starship to planet to the eye of the girl - wonderful!! A real great director with a clear vision and great skills was taking this!!
Finally!! Some character development by Dust. I have pretty much given up on watching any of their videos anymore when I thought I would give this one a chance. This may be one of their best. About time.
Interesting film. Not sure what that snake thing is though. I'm guessing a pet of some sort of the cargo trader. Dust has a bunch of films. Some are good, some not that great but I'll never badmouth any of them because the bad ones are usually beginning filmmakers making their first few films. It takes a while to get really good at this.
This is one of the finest films I've seen in a long, while. "Short film" or not, this work delivers a powerfully messaged masterpiece in my opinion that beautifully blends believable CGI, and relatable scenarios that detail out the harsh realities of space. This move rivals any feature length film in my opinion of any blockbuster-budget film.

Thank you. A series would be amazing. The positive response we’ve received so far will definitely help with that goal
This is nothing short of spectacular! Wonderful story. Great actors. Great characters. Great cinematography. And the visual effects and compositing are astounding! Wonderful music too. I am so impressed and inpired. Bravo!
Desperate choices and the greater good, that was outstanding.
OMG, almost gave me chills! It's one of those "what would YOU do if faced with a situation like that!"
Whoa!
On many levels. The story, the build, the overall universe. All AWESOME!
I love watching Dust flicks. Great characters, storyline, and artistically done.
This is really good, I am impressed at how convincing and layered a used future space opera universe this short film realises on a low budget as well as how much character evolution it fits into a 30 min runtime. Wouldn't mind seeing a longer series set in this universe!
agreed this is good and very well done in just the small time frame
Certainly captures the love between a father and daughter. Well done, Bobby.
felt like a real movie with the quality of a star wars movie but with a story you care about
30 minute film but It felt like I've been watching for hours, stunning visuals and entertaining story.
Definitely one of the best I've seen. Brought tears to my eyes at the end, didn't know sci-fi could do that. This film is genius.
This was pretty well written, including the "Bond Move" to take out the big guy! Also how the daughter's dream came true, just not the way she wanted it to.
Promises were kept. Great parents will go to hell and back, to make sure their children have a chance in life. Is their sole purpose in life. Beautiful...
Actually the real hell was where he was transporting those hundreds of aliens, so he could send his kid to a fancy school.
@@macrumpton you did put in account the complete set of details surrounding his hard decision. Is not like he was dancing around at the opportunity. Life is full of incredibly tough decisions and compromise. Although this is fiction, this fecal subject still raises questions. Thanks to the western world's ancestors, slavery was conquered and uprooted. Sadly, not all places followed the example. Slavery is still flourishing in the Middle East and Africa. Blood chilling to think this exists in our world, as we speak.
@@annehaase3380 "thanks to western world's ancestors", lmao. Who started it in the first place? Who supply middle east and africa the top dollar? Who bombed Libya and Iraq?

Absolutely wonderful. The story, the execution, the CG - all are 5-star. I hope to see more of your work, you are one of the brightest starts in the DUST universe.
And the aliens were practical!
Absolutely love this..better than many scifis' I have seen just oozing with morals and integrity and the father provided what he promised although breaking a very moralistic promise.
These sci-fi shorts are incredible to say the least. I just started to scratch the surface of Dust and I am already highly impressed. Such creativity.
As someone who has grown tired of Simps in the TH-cam comments, did you enjoy the rest of them?
I'm always amazed at the imagination our minds can conjured up. It leaves me with this one unanswered question, where does that come from if everything here by random? Maybe one day this channel can answer it for me.
And for your question, yes I do. Technology allows us to experience more creativity without the Hollywood budget.
WoW! This is why Dust is one of the best channels on YT!!!
This story stimulated my entire cerebral cortex. The endpoints of love empathy compassion and redemption will leave an indelible message. Top shelf accolades to all involved in its fruition.

He made damn near a million for transporting slaves, the only sacrifice was of those 200 beings
@@fragelius that's one way to see it dear (:
@Mark Bauer I hear what you're saying. But, even though the daughter is getting a great life, all she wanted was to be with him. And what kid doesn't want to be with their parents. So I would venture to say that, bottom line, they both lost. From the father's prospective it was damned if you and damned if you don't so, for his daughter's sake, he took a chance on moving this "cargo" and it came back and bit him. At least he got his daughter set up for a better life.
Daughter: I want good food.
Also Daughter: No dad! You can't take that shipment.
Libtardation 101.
Nice how various levels of script came through in production. Earning a living. Living an earning. Humanity & inhumanity. Father & daughter.
Отличный короткометражный фильм! Персонажи, атмосфера, музыка - всё шикарно! Спасибо, давно не получал такого удовольствия от фантастики.
What a wonderful wonderful story. The sacrifices good men make for their families and others is something we never talk about enough. 😢
Yea... every time you bring up how good fathers are, people always come in and say things like "not all fathers" or "moms are more important". It's really disheartening to see how unappreciated men are.
He wasn't really a good guy. He tried to reform his life, but still fell back to slave trading. Because of that, even if he saved the lives of those slaves, he caused his daughter even more harm.
Beautiful...the details, the cast, the writing. Thank you! ❤
How the hell have I not heard about this channel before! Best SCI FI ive seen in years.
I am glad to see something that brings to light the the problems of making decisions and parenting what's best for the child is not always the best for ourselves but the choices that we make we need to live with good or bad
it's only a dream.
@@zenokarlsbach4292 We only succeed according to the limits of our dreams...
Quality production and feels a lot like the pilot episode of a TV series. Very impressed.
yeah I wouldn't mind seeing a series exploring the rest of this universe
Exactly the type of movies we need now...good, wholesome and honest, with no underlying evil motives....well done sirs.
The motives in modern mainstream movies aren't evil. They do have good intentions, mostly. They're just forced onto audiences in ways which are obnoxious, unrealistic, petulant, childish, and misguided.
@@pwnmeisterage yes....and sadly, the true intentions are completely lost and the evilness is what is picked up by most.
For the life of me I cannot get enough of this channel this is my second time watching it and I love it every second of it
What great writing and directing. I absolutely was fascinated and intrigued by this particular short film. Exquisitely done!
The slave scenes reminded me of one of my favorite movies, Enemy Mine. They reminded me of when Samis was impressed into servitude.
Dennis Quaid and Louis Gossett Jnr were fantastic in this movie.
That was truly a great one, a favorite from my childhood.
Oh yeah, I love that movie
I swear I was thinking of that movie 5 minutes before I found this!
I have watched so many moving DUST movies but this was in a category all by itself. This looked almost Guardian of the Galaxy like. From the music to the performances to the ageing ship. Well done. May this lead to even greater things. Thank You
And all our aliens were practical!
@@sarahem8 I loved the design of the species that was enslaved. Really well done, and the film was fantastic.
Totally AMAZING!! The scenes, background, plots! The storyline, acting, characters! I just cannot believe how a movie like this can be made outside of the giant corporations... I love it!
Wish this were a series. I love futuristic Sci-fi films like these beside the big Hollywood ones.
Great work.
Looking forward to seeing more of your work!😎 👍
Absolutely awesome! Excellent film. I'm familiar with main actor. He was very good here. Thanks for your contribution to SCI FI !
Very well done. Thanks for that 30 minutes of well spent time.
Great! Absolutely fantastic!! Not often does a piece come along like this one. A true gem.
I love how the scene on the space ship is both futuristic and practical, with the easel and paintbrush, the familiar interior design, and the recognizable smart tablet. Adds to the realism
Excellent. Special. How rare to have a good storyline.
One of the best I have ever seen on DUST. The opening sequence alone - from starship to planet to the eye of the girl - wonderful!! A real great director with a clear vision and great skills was taking this!!
Very good and sad. The father sacrificed his principles and his life so that his daughter could have a better life. Great graphics and details.
Brilliant. The concept, the camera, the music, the sound effects, the artistic nature, the acting, everything. Inspiring stuff by any standards.
i can't believe how good this is this could be released on netflix imo.

I like the background music and the love between the dad and the daughter is so impressive. And trafficking seems to be a universal problem that will last for a long time. However, ironically, the girl can only live an ideal life when her dad is under arrest by the authority.
