I quite relate to what he is saying about Nigerians supporting Nigerian businesses. From personal experience doing so is hard! In African shops prices are unnecessarily hiked up, good customer service is low or non existence, when you ask the staff questions they act as if you are disturbing them, opening hours are not consistent... i can go on! I do my best to buy African shops but if i have a bad experience it ll take time to return

Buy Black! Black business should also make more effort to attract black customers. Make your shops welcoming etc. Offer the type of shops and service the Indians cannot offer. Black consumers should make every effort to buy from black businesses and be prepared to even pay more for similar products because overheads and costs are more for black businesses if they are renting from Indians and lacking the networks Indians enjoy.

Yes, black lives matter but then our people should learn to price their goods reasonably because if u have various items and an asian shop has same items but my black brother's price is higher , the truth is that I will buy from the cheaper place.

The reason behind the hiked pricing sometimes is the politics that emanates from the source of the goods. It’s sometimes designed to oppress the black businesses who then get priced out.

@Ukabam Ebere I totally agree with you. African markets here in U.S. is very expensive. We go there just for items for a certain meal. My husband bought a lotion for $24.99. I was like what! On Amazon this same lotion is $5.49! And they are very unpleasant when you go into their stores. No greetings just a sour face.

Hi Phrankleen, I buy everywhere depending on the availability of what I want and my location. There is only one Ghana lady selling African food where I live but she now has competition from Asian and Polish shops. She is still in business and thriving. She lacks good PR but her under grad son is so good with people, helpful and respectful. She is a moody person and her reception depends on that. I personally can over look it but some don't and complain about her attitude. Her goods are not cheaper but if I am around her area, I still patronize her.
Secondly when we patronize our people a lot and they become popular, at times they hike their prices for example tatashi pepper will sell for 5 for a £ but at the Asian shop it's 8 for a £ and bigger in size, you just wonder. This particular shop is always busy and the envy of the Asian shops around it, so it depends. At times our people become greedy when business is thriving, they will fleece their loyal customers without bating an eye. Each time I go there I don't spend less than £120. So it all depends, but I do agree with supporting our people.

The Asian shops are opened 365 days same time every day. Always stocked and tend to be more reliable with their supplies. The major difference I ve noticed is that they treat it like a business- no Asian family member would turn up and take items from the stock without paying for it or start haggling over the price. Asians tend to be more patient in business. The african culture of taking from your stock and not paying and the higher costs of their items is what makes their businesses flounder.

Its so appalling how the indians and pakistani people dominated Afro business in UK. This ought not to be so. I feel so sad every time I am buying from their shops. I keep asking myself what our Africans were doing when these people took over african food and cosmetics business. Africans, Nigeria wake up please. I have never seen an african selling Indian, Pakistan or arabic foods. Even if we sell it they will not buy from us. In Woolich where I buy my African food I have not seen any Shop own by African, only these foreigners. Its a shame ! I know in their minds they will think that Africans are fools. Why did they not take over oyibo business or even Arab business ? Why must it be African? We should think very well because our prestige is at stake here, it not just all about cheapness or even customer service.

#GoGettersNetwork Great Video Phrankleen, No matter the nationality or culture of a Black person.. Majority of us have been conditioned to only compete with one another. This is why blacks find it comfortable shopping with other races, they don't believe they can compete on a national/global scale, so therefore the compete with their own kind! Also when you shop at the Mall/other races you don't see their growth, we don't want to see our brother & sister be financially independent when we are still locked into the 9-5 mindset! So subconsciously they want you to fail, b/c if you are successful that means their loyalty to the system has been fruitless. Our ppl brother hate to be wrong, they would rather you go out of business. I've seen it 1st hand as an Entrepreneur in the USA, doesnt matter the nationality of the black person.. To support black businesses is to empower our community economically.
Black business prices tend to be higher because of economic obstacles from racist society and network of non-black competitors.
Poor customer services is also not a reason not to support our own.
If we spend our money with non-black businesses and cause our black businesses to close, we leave ourselves vulnerable for all types of injustices in future and would be forced to buy from non-black businesses that could treat you worse than any black business ever did.

It can at most times be the customers that create the loss in advancement. We need to visit these shops and be as brief and basic as possible. Going to shop with pride, spending a huge amount and after a few times become upset that we weren't welcomed or attentioned with a VIP treatment including given a percentage discount or a free item. Let's go into the shops and not feel as if we're doing the business a favour. Let's stop the intimate chatter, there's no need to know the background etc of staff, doing this creates a feeling of debt on the business and so goes on to neglect other customers while serving you and or removing profit from your shopping. Try and have different family members do the shopping and leave out the routine days and times and asking for the freshest/best be kept aside for you.

Came across this video in 2023, and my own contribution is, Africans, especially Nigerians with African shops here in the UK hike there prices unnecessary, and when you see same thing in an Asian or Arab store, it is way cheaper. And i begin to wonder what the difference is? Same Area, same size of shop, so what made our own price high? greed has eaten us up. You buy from the Arab guy and maybe its remaining 30cents to complete what you bought, they will tell you, brother forget about it but try that with the Nigerian shop, they will give you 20 epistle why they cant leave that 30cent for you. Rather they ask you to go find it and come back or write your name down as someone owing them. We dont and never liked ourselves only few good people.

This sound so funny. He makes it sound as though the choice to go to a Pakistani store is based on personal beef. Customers (and hence money) will gravitate to where there's better value for the same commodity. Value encompasses, competitive prices, good service, professionalism, and reliability of a business to its customers.

Sharing a link of what a "how to start..." video should look like with you might help with moving the black Nigerian food store community forward. Being diligent in all you do moves the black community forward, it doesn't have to be posted on SM. Try making better quality videos and you'll be doing the same.

Good you brought this up! But my guy,our brothers and sisters are pushing us right into the Asians arms with their ridiculous prices. STOP with over-pricing for real. I live in Glasgow/ Scotland right, every other month I visit family in England and that's when I get to do my hair too just to avoid paying the Salons in Glasgow. Crazy expensive it's crazy!

#GoGettersNetwork Here's the thing in our culture it's beyond price. I once spoke with a Jewish man about business, he said to me he can get cheaper insurance for his business, home & cars but he will pay the extra to keep the money in his community. We must stop instant gratification & play the long game. We can't expect a new black business to compete with the competition, some of these businesses Especially food/beverage have credit lines.. so they don't pay for the products until there sold. Most black businesses are buy upfront hoping to make a profit.

@@trevorisaacs7121 Nice point brother. I am willing to pay more to black businesses for same product or services. I would even tolerate more inconvenience in order to buy black? Why?
      1. Black businesses generally have higher overheads because of economic obstacles placed on them by racist authorities.
      2. They may appear rude and expensive because black consumers expect them to be as cheap as or cheaper than their non-black competition and if the refuse to discount it appears they are rude.
      3. We as black consumers should willingly pay higher prices our black businesses are asking because it is an investment in the future economic empowerment of black community.

@@proyouservicesltd3652 Absolutely 100% brother, you get it.. Our ppl think short-term while all other races are planning 50-100+ yrs, I understand many of us never been in business. We are told to get a job or go to university, going into business is risky & when we see our brothers & sisters taking the risk we must invest. Not only b/c were black but they will provide jobs in the future! Also our children will grow up to have a blueprint to start their own businesses!

    • @proyouservicesltd3652
      @proyouservicesltd3652 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@trevorisaacs7121 Thank you. Most black consumers are busy counting pennies they would save from buying from some White or Asian stores, they miss the bigger picture. Once our black businesses fail it would leave us more vulnerable to all types of injustices in the future.
We need to tolerate our businesses as imperfect as they may be, so they can survive, improve and grow. Bad service from a black business should not be justification for not buying black.

Yes, he's saying the truth but African retailers don't respect african customers. African retailers lack good customer service. For example, I purchased unsealed yam powder. After I took it home and identified mouse 🐁 droppings, I then decided to return the yam powder ti the shop but the owner refuses to refund me and said to me that 'CATCH FLIGHT AND GO BRING YOUR OWN'. I went into the shop and found more mouse droppings in various powders. Due to her attitude, how can I go back to her shop again? But Pakistanis, indians and Lebanese will take the food back with an apology and refund you. I repeat, Our people lack customer service orientation.

From this C19 I have stopped going to a lot of different shops i only go to the black butchers which is a family own, i am now seeing more and more black people buying meat from brazils and the meat is much better and the shops are clean, i don't buy from the Chinese at all and more and more people are following i have seen more Africa shops and i for one will support my own but I do feel that a lot of us are only buying from a few Asian shops and not even buying from all. Yet to find a good fish shop as the new fish shop near me has the worst smell ever. Please don't buy fish if they have to use a lot of ice. Fish should haven't to have all this ice.

I agree that we should. Support each other but t's the pricing and customer service, if they are bringing from the same place then why is it the African store is priced higher??? And the way you are treated, you don't always feel like going back, even in other businesses, have gone to a Ghanaian hair braiding shop here in US, the lady was very rude, very loud, just yanking the hair and if you flinched she reacted like that's a no no and the whole time she is doing my hair she was on phone talking so loudly right next to my ear and you would think am getting free service which I still wouldn't go back even if free, so yes BLM so does the way you treat your customers, just saying!!!

The problem we Africans have especially Nigerians is wanting to do it on their own. You hardly find any one having an issue idea and being open to collaborate with one or two others to do the business for a bigger and better outcome. Meanwhile most Asians don’t even think of starting anything on their own. They share the risk and profit and end up with a really large scale business. Shame on most of Nigerians that only want self progression and not interested in sharing information on how they made it or helping others to grow 😏

Well the problem with African grocery shop must workers are absolutely Rude. And take people for fools. Mostly Africans that are open minded and polite with them in return they take those particular africain for stupid and I know what am saying. Plus you price it absolutely too way much. Comon am looking to Open my own but in different style. When you shop to Asian shop they make sure EVERYONE HAVE ACCESSIBILITY. OK. Exsemple: ASIAN grocery will sell 4 plaintain for £1 each. African grocery will say £1.50 each 😅
Fish forget about it. Ha ha . Plus customer service wouaayyy mama forget it .. then if you are not Anglophone African heeeeeeeeeeeeee mama see them the way they look at u or talk to you. Please when u do business and you see on the same street someone do it as well try to make u price at least similar if not don't blame u own people not to shop with u. I always shop in African shop even if customer service is rubbish, I smile with them. Great them same as I will do to any shop but seriously my people. You guys need to smile a bit. And stop putting BIG price.. like my husband ask me why u shop in African shop u know them I reply no problem. At least I support them even if it a lots compare to the Asian. During covid Asian store put their price very up. Most all Asian did vidéo to say No one should go and buy food in Asian shop.. guest what when people did that and they see no customer they reduce the price.. so .. Good luck and good luck for me to am working on my shop😍
