Today I’m gonna be sharing with you the story of Dr. Kennedy Okonkwo who is a Nigerian real estate billionaire who has built a successful Real Estate Development Business in Nigeria all from nothing. I came across him in 2018 when he was on the cover of Forbes Africa and since then I have been wondering when I will have the opportunity to sit down with this great mind. What does it mean??? I know there are a lot of eyes being rolled at my question. For them it might be stupid because they understand it which should make them feel good that they are knowledgeable enough to help us who are unlucky and are not as intelligent as them or didn't grow up around highly educated people, or be privileged enough to have had private high end education.

I fully agree. Some people would have left out the cousin part in other to make their story sound more inspirational and industrious. As having no plug and doing it all by yourself makes for a better rags to riches, self made millionaire story.

This thing Mr Kennedy said about a roof being over your head is highly underrated. I live in Europe and there has been a few times where I found it very difficult to get an appartement for one reason or another. My father who is in Nigeria will be so bothered and would turn it into a prayer point for me to get an appartement on time. My father would say the most important thing for a man is shelter. It is only when you have shelter you can begin to think properly on how to find food. My father would say even if you have so many problems, where to sleep at night should not be one of it because that is one of the worst situations for anybody to find themselves in.
I have had an experience of not having where to stay for the night because I missed the connecting train to where I was going. This was towards midnight and everywhere was freezing cold. I thought maybe I could stay at the train station until the morning to take the first train to my destination. Unfortunately, at 1am the security ordered all of us to go outside. It was freezing cold 🥶 outside. The next time the train station would be open was at 4am. I didn’t have any friends at this location so I was forced to stay outside the whole night until 4am. It was the longest 3 hours wait in my life. I couldn’t think of any other thing than getting warm. Food was not even the priority. The priority was finding warmth. I didn’t want to stay in a hotel because I didn’t budget for that. It was at that point, I understood better what my father was talking about.
many many years ago, one relatives from our family would wake up at 3-4 am to take train to go to high school, travel would take about 1h. So, from 5 am to 7:30 am when classes started, he would have to wait in train stations or outside of high school. Did this for 4 years. Winters are with -15 (c) outside. Then he would get the train at +16 ( +4 pm) and get home at 17-18 ( 5-6 pm).
Then he went to university, his parents had food and all, but nobody had a job to bring real money, so he could not get a place to stay, no money for a rent. When he was at university, he slept in train stations and at university when he found a place. Did this for 4 years as well. He had top grandes, so he got some money from the government, but those would cover his travel tickets, food and clothes. He finished university like this and got a job as teacher, but then left so that he works at a bank. I didn't even finished high school and I made more money than he made. Hard work pays off, but sometimes life is just unfair, see the unbalance? is not just about me and him, but in this situation could be many

My take is there is no one who cannot turn his life around. All you need is focus, humility and a hand willing to hold you up and give you the ropes.
I like how Dr. Okonkwo laid emphasis on education, destiny helpers, dire consequence of procrastination, and on believing in ourselves as Africans.
We are the ones to make our countries better places, we are those very people our countries are looking up to and we shouldn't fail them.

I thank God for these interview because i was chased in the house these week by my landlord and they through my things out. So when i had these i gave hope to myself that one day i will have a roof of my own.
I'm a Real Estate Developer. This Chap talks very fast because he has so much facts in his Head that he's trying to share. He knows what he's talking about. Real Estate has no end because Land is fixed but Population increases daily.
Beautiful how he outlined his whole story/process…. Rare to find people this open about their process. Many will just tell you it’s the grace of God.
That's Nigerian mentality. Whites usually break it down to the detail. You can buy a key to success book by a successful Nigerian celebrity and there will be no specifics only fluff. He is unique.
I have learnt a thousand lessons from this interview. It's so inspirational.

The secret to NED'S wealth is choosing the right people to be with him. From cousin to wife to employees. He knows how to get people, bring out the genius in them and use thier genius for his good and I hopefully reward those people too. Most libra are awesome with building a tribe.

T, I'm so glad you asked why Nigerian homes are way more expensive than in countries like SA. The man said the cost of financing, which I never really thought would be a big issue due to the cheaper labour and vast uncultivated landmass we have. However, financing at 20-24% repayments as he said is completely insane 😲, especially building at that scale. Great interview on a great man 👏.
Financing in Nigeria is very expensive and not just compared to SA. Even compared to East Africa, Angola etc. The Nigerian government is aware of it is not a big secret, but they haven't solved the issue.

I lived in Lagos all my life and lived in d south east for some years. The south east has a better living standard and quality of life, but the federal govt denies the east of good amenities and infrastructure.
