I started to wear glasses when I turned 49. Now 10yrs down the line I still wear the same frames much to the displeasure of my local opticians but have to get a tweak on left lens only. They always try to get me to upgrade my frames and say they don’t suit my face. Well I’ve been bald now for 20yrs and those original frames suited my face then. Nothing has changed I’m still bald and a few less teeth but now somehow the same people who sold me my original frames now say they don’t suit me. Anti dazzle coating for driving at night or computer work has been offered. I tell them I’m ok with just putting new normal lens in my old frames and you see the faces drop because I refuse Armani frames that cost a months family shop. Commission is the problem and while it exists we will always be a target for Upgrades 😂
You know what really aggravates me with these money-grabbing Opticians is when they rush thru the Eye Test, to the point i have to say can i try that lens again has I'm reading the board on the wall; some Opticians have even "tutted"at me because they had to go back a few lens from their box! 😮 And they ALWAYS make the glasses to strong! Takes me weeks to get use to them. ❤️
I'm 42 now, Ralfy. Just got my first verifocals having always had single vision. £240. Strange how we don't consider the idea of an 'upsell' when it comes to health, but I'm sure... sadly... that it goes on.
I’ve noticed this also. My old glasses are just as good but they always try the upsell. We must not forget that it’s our privilege to decide to buy which is why nationalised services are such a drain as we all pay via taxes but we don’t get the buying decision to assess value.
When I was young I was happy when I got a new toy or other stuff. My kids and their generation get disappointed or mad if they DON'T get what they want. Consume and get excited for the next product.
Luxottica produces 70% of the name brand (designer) eyewear in the world. That is one reason why frames and lenses are so expensive. They have a practical monopoly on that industry.
Like it! Thanks for sharing 👍
I was recently ver-sold a pair of designer glasses at the opticians, I bought in through naivety
