I think you are mistaking it with Rocky V. That's the hated one, Rocky IV is literally the highest grossing movie of the saga, that and its very rare to hear someone not putting this one as the top number one of the Rocky series. Has not the most iconic, that place goes to Rocky II run, but probably the best training montage of all, has Rocky at his strongest level, a pretty interesting plot (might not be the most complex, but it really has that sparkle that makes everyone love it), and the OST (Hearts on Fire, No Easy Way Out, Burning Heart, all of these iconic). This is probably the most loved Rocky film by the fans and the casual public.
i disagree. i think the height of the cold war had been passed. it was when the berlin wall was being built. it was when cuba aimed nuclear weapons at america. it was during the space race. by the time of rocky 4 both sides only used nuclear weapons as a deterrent and made agreements to reduce nuclear stock piles. by the time of rocky 4 the only real fighting was between their best athletes against ours in the olympics. basically, the better athletes had to have the better society. thats why sports competitions were so important.

I thought during the time of this movie the death of Apollo Creed was interesting and Rocky seeking revenge. As the film progressed and until this day I'm like fuck! Why you had to die Apollo?!

Pride and self-respect. plus, at the beginning of the movie, this was the fight that was supposed to happen, but apollo wanted to test the water with Drago, but his ignorance and self-confidence got him killed in the fight against Drago.
Because after what happened to Apollo, the boxing commission in the US didn't ok this fight concerning Rocky and Drago. That's why he had it in Russia. Basically, it'd be for no money and for no belt. They weren't talking further responsibility for Rocky like they had taken heat over Apollo and that disastrous exhibition.
