  • Steam is back. For the first time since 2011, the East Broad Top Railroad would offer steam powered excursions along the historic narrow gauge route. To highlight the railroad's annual Winter Spectacular, 2-8-2 "Mikado" #16 would be returned to service operating excursions over 5 miles of trackage from Orbisonia Station to Colgate Grove. Along with new steel passenger cars and a wooden caboose, the train would traverse the scenic line through the forested hills with steam leading for the first time in nearly a decade. On this beautiful winter weekend the locomotive would power four passenger excursions that would draw railroad photographers and tourists alike from across the country. In plumes of steam and melodic sound, 16 would put on a spectacular show of steam and power after the rewarding rehibilitation of the historic line and equipment beginning in 2020. Please sit back, relax, and come along as the sights and sounds of a steam locomotive finally returns to the East Broad Top Railroad in "An Orbisonian Steam Revival" by Keystone Rail Productions!
    History of 16:
East Broad Top 16 is a 2-8-2 "Mikado" that was constructed by the Baldwin Locomotives in 1916. Delivered as the first of a batch of three larger 2-8-2s ordered by the EBT, the locomotive was equipped with superheaters, piston valves, and Southern valve gear. During her career in service, the locomotive could be found hauling heavy coal trains and long strings of freight cars over the EBT's trackage. In 1955 she was given an overhaul and would only operate a for a short period of time. In the next year, 1956, her fire would be dropped for the final time until 2020. After an inspection to asses the condition of the locomotive, it was determined to be a viable candidate for restoration. Later that year, work began to restore 16 and was given the name "Nick" to honor Nick Kovalchick, the man who saved the East Broad Top from an uncertain future. The locomotive would be fired up in 2022 and on February 1, 2023, 16 would operate under her own power for the first time and was officially returned to revenue service later that month.

Great video Vince! Now all the EBT has to do is to restore the other steamers to operational condition.(Though it may take some time.)

If you can make a donation. We have nothing else in this area like this. My wife and I had a ride in 1979 right after we were married. She passed last year. I made a donation of 20000 in her memory

So the first 3 coaches are obviously brand new reproductions and numbered #21-23, but what about the combine last in the consist? It had no number. Was it a special class like the #20? And why was it not numbered?
If the E.B.T. Foundation thinks it can run just a car like that and expect singular and unmatched attendance, then they will be wrong.
I live within 3-States away and could easily make a trip up to visit, and I want too, but if the foundation is selling 3rd class seats at a 1st class price, I won't bother.
And as another hammer blow to those now in charge of things, the old EBT Website was stagnant for a long time and devoid of any information, then you guy's came in and took over, but really never had a good or dedicated website or updated the old one.
Has this been changed? I don't waste my time anymore trying to find out about what you are doing, I get better updates from TH-cam videos.
While I think the "Foundation" has been a God Saviour for the E.B.T., I think you all have dropped the ball on the public relations end of things.
Even as a devout fan of the E.B.T. and fanatic, I still wonder what the F**k is happening and you can be assured that any customer of ridership will be having the same thoughts.
You really need to get yourself out in front of this thing with some advertising.
I could come to visit in a month, but don't know if you will be open in April or running any steam operations and since you have not planned, I cannot plan and that is a lost revenue for the E.B.T. & the State of Pennsylvania.
So you got #16 running, Great Job, She is like the Turkey Dinner, but all of your guests have already gone out to eat at a restaurant instead of waiting.................
