In the two years since this video was done, a lot has happened with the East Broad Top in the most positive aspect. The place literally is being brought back to life. The railroad is truly on the march to extending the line to Saltillo (and as of this posting, it is looking like they may actually raise the funds for not only their current fundraising campaign, but to get the track material purchased heading for Pogue which is 1/3 of the way to Saltillo itself). The shops also are getting completely redone or have had their foundations stabilized, roof work being completed, etc. it is a marvel to watch this railroad be brought back to life and watching the General public get involved physically with the track gangs, or people like me and many others donating what we can to help out. If things keep going the way they are, in the next few years there will actually be trains running on trackage that has not seen a train since 1956.

“There are very few things in the world as dead as a steam locomotive without steam in it, and there are very few things as alive as a steam locomotive with steam in it” that… that might be the closest thing to describing the deal with the steam bug I have ever heard.

Very well done. The background track just gives a sense of respect and dignity to the history of the railroad. I also love the graphics for each section. Thanks for sharing.

I think UNESCO should consider EBT as a World Haitage Site.

Same with white pass, it ended common carrier service in 1983 but entered excursion service 5 years later in 1988

Excellent video and incredibly well done! And I can't agree with Mr. Moedinger more... His summing up of steam locomotives and how a cold, dead one compares to a hot, live one is spot on and I couldn't have said it better. The EBT is definitely on my bucket list to visit and I'm looking forward to the day I can take it all in... And I also can't agree more with his sentiment to make it go!

I was going to say the same in my comment, but you said it all. I freely admit Mr. Moedinger gave me a little lump in the 'ole throat...

the 2 most breath taking things of the EBT:
1: watching 16 wake up and breathe was tear jerking. it was like watching someone wake up from a near fatal coma
2: The EBT effectively locked the doors and walked away. meaning the shops were as they left it, and seeing that shop like it you got shoved back to the week they were closing up made quite a few people go "oh my god...." its amazing how well they fixed the broken areas of the shop and how it looks beautiful
Also he's absolutely right about them making noises when they sleep. DRGW #346 at the CRRM used to snore with her snifters. theyd vibrate out of nowhere. and 491 used to moo when she got up to pressure. and also cross compound air compressors will ask a question when they get up to full air pressure. instead of going "boom-pah boom pah" they go "Boooom???? poooof." steam engines have personalities. theyll play with you just to mess with you, theyll give you kisses, theyll talk back. not one locomotive is the same as another, even if theyre the same build model.

I admire those that are bringing it back to life. I wish I could be a part of it but that's just not in the cards. 😺
