Hi Matt, Thanks for the content. I have 5 running shoes in my rotation. How often should I use a pair of shoes (esp. race shoes) to keep them from deteriorating? At least once a month or 2?
If you store your shoes in a climate controlled area (inside your house/apartment), your shoes will last for a very long time. If you leave them in extreme temperatures the midsole will break down faster. I ran a half marathon last weekend in a pair of old 4% that I hadn’t used in 3 years and they were fine!
Do you do anything special to protect the midsole foam of more expensive carbon plated shoes that you use less frequently? Is it enough to just store them in a dry, cool environment or does it help to use something like a vacuum sealed bag?
I only keep my Next%2s in the house (cool/dry). All my other running shoes are kept in the garage, which is like an oven here in the summer. I figure I use all but the Next% on a regular basis, so the garage environment won't do too much damage.

Good question. This would not be my first recommendation for you. Although it would work on road and easy trails, it’s probably a little heavy and you don’t need quite as much cushion. Id probably check the NB Rebel V2 or even the Saucony Endorphin Speed.
The wear on my Pegasus is exactly the same as yours..I worry about the heel area as it got flat like yours…. Not sure it last 600 miles😂, so I brought ASICS and mizuno wave riders as their heel rubbers are thicker.
Yeah, 600 miles may be a stretch on the Pegasus and even if they did last that long, the integrity of the midsole (that we can't see) will likely be breaking down by that point! Good call on the ASICS because they put AHAR rubber at the lateral rear heel and Mizuno's Wave Riders have a lot of rubber and seem like they'll withstand a lot of running!

It’s different for most shoes. If you Google it you may see that shoes should be changed out as low as 350 miles (560 km), but the Pegasus will last far longer. I’d say you can run in the Pegasus for at least 500 miles (800km).

Yeah, it could be a mistake. Can you order another pair to check? You can always send back the pair that don’t fit well!
After about how many miles should I put into a shoe before changing to new ones?
It’s different for most shoes. If you Google it you may see that shoes should be changed out as low as 350 miles (560 km), but the Pegasus will last far longer. I’d say you can run in the Pegasus for at least 500 miles (800km).
will this last 500 miles?
Everyone is different because of how they run, but yes, at least for me this shoe will last 500 miles easily!
It seems like the Peg is Nike´s best buck for your money.
It’s definitely worth every penny!
Can a heavier runner actually run 400miles in these comfortably? I am thinking of picking up a pair of 38s for my long runs, which are usually around 6-8km
Yes! Thanks think 400 miles is a doable distance for anyone wearing the Peg 38s. They’re very resilient!
@@its_Matt_B_ that's so cool! I was kinda doubtful, considering all the foam in the mid sole. But hey, the expert has spoken! Gotta run to the nike store, I guess!
@@sukeshsubaharan4324 How much do you weigh? I weigh 185lbs/84kg and I’d expect 600 miles if I wanted to keep them that long (I rotate shoes out more often because I want to review others). I will definitely be putting 400 miles in them!
@@its_Matt_B_ I weigh about 103kg/230lbs(I reckon?). I ran in a pair of Zoom Flys for about 300 miles. But those have different mid sole technology, I believe.
Thank you for the prompt replies!
@@sukeshsubaharan4324 For comparison, back when I was wearing Zoom Flys as my regular running shoes, I would usually get about 400 miles before starting to notice them dying. I usually took them to 450-500 before retiring them.
Hey Matt!
I just ordered a pair of Peg 38s! I hear you mention they fit true to size, that's got me thinking. I am actually a size 12.5, the closest size I could get was a 13 (I am talking UK sizes here). The Nike size chart says it fits feet that are 32cm long, my feet are about 31, and these leave comfortable amount of room in 12.5 sized trainers. Will the new Pegs end up being too roomy?
Thanks!
It’s quite difficult to say because a shoe size is more than just length. Are you able to return the shoes if they don’t fit quite right?
@@its_Matt_B_ yes, I do have an option to return them. I have used other Nike UK 13 sizers, I am hoping these ones will fit as good those ones.
Thanks for the prompt reply, Matt!
@@sukeshsubaharan4324 Oh yes, if you’ve used other Nike 13s, they should all fit the same! Be sure to let me know how they feel when you get them!
@@its_Matt_B_ Hey Matt! Finally tried on my new Pegs, and boy are they good! Perfect fit, true to size for sure! Can't wait to run in 'em!
@@sukeshsubaharan4324 That's so good to hear! I'm glad you like them! 👊🏼
is this shoe better and softer to walk than the winflo 7 or 8?
The Winflow is a little softer than the Pegasus, but only a little. They're actually quite similar. The Winflow is a bit cheaper than the Pegasus.
@@its_Matt_B_ I read that the pegasus is more softer? Thye have responsive and lightweight air zoom units with added that they have more amount of cushioning and are thus softer and squishy than winflo 7
@@johanw.1673 I find the Winflow softer underfoot, especially while walking around. The Winflo 8 also has a forefoot zoom unit, but this doesn’t make much difference if you’re using it as a walking around type of shoe.
Ultimately, your use and budget are the determining factors. I don’t think you’ll really notice too much of a difference when waking. The Pegasus will be a little more durable, which is probably why it costs a little more.
@@its_Matt_B_ I have the winflo 7 and use them for only hiking but they are already worn out after 6 months. I've been looking for the winflo 8 for a while and the prices of the winflo 8 are increasing every day .the winflo 8 are now more expensive than pegasus 38 and I wonder why that is??? why the rise up the price so high for a winflo 8?? so i'm thinking about now buying the pegasus 38 because of the lower price . but I wonder if they are also suitable for only walking ?
@@johanw.1673 The Pegasus are a very adaptable shoe and they will work well for walking. They will also last you longer than the Winslow, so if you can get them for less, it’s a no-brainer! Good luck! Check back in and let me know how they work out for you! 👊🏽
I wanted the 37... didn’t... I’m sure I’d like the 38... haven’t... Bondi 7 for $30 more... I will again... lol... it’s like running in a great pair of work boots... but I know they’re great!
There’s nothing wrong with sticking with what works. If it ain’t broke…….
i bought the shoe ran for 5 minutes and my feet started hurting i prefer my ultraboosts
I’m happy to hear the Ultraboosts work so well for you! 👊🏼
Does it feel good when you run on track!
It's certainly not made for track running, but it actually feels quite good. The heel lockdown is good, so it doesn't slip as you're going around the curves.
Can you refund this if it doesn’t fit you online
Nike has a good return policy if you’re a member (it’s free to join).
@@its_Matt_B_ ok thx, I’m a size 6 in shoes so will a size 6 Pegasus 38 fit for me
@@Omar_Marquez I think they will. Nike fits true to size for me.
@@its_Matt_B_ ok thx
I weigh 225 pounds and i am between brooks ghost 13 and Nike Peg 38. I run around 3-4 miles 3 to 4 times per week. Any insights?
I think you'll find the Brooks Ghost very comfortable for what you're doing, and they'll last!
@@its_Matt_B_ Thanks a lot. I ordered them. New subscriber here from Greece!!
@@goul82 Thanks for being a part of the channel! Check back in and let me know how they feel after a few runs! 👊🏼
@@its_Matt_B_ Will do!
Hye. I have flat feet and low arch. So i want to get wide shoes. Is it this shoes suitable for me ? Because some people said it suitable for flatfeet. Pls notice me🥺
The Nike Pegasus 38 is available in 4E width, which is wider than the normal D width. If you're able to try the shoes on, I would suggest trying both widths and deciding which one to keep.
I'd be interested to hear what width works for you, so check back in when you get a pair!
Got them for 50 euros only in Germany today.
What?! Wow! You’re going to love them even more at that price! Good score! 👊🏽
Got it for 70$ in India thnx to Amazon prime day sale
Excellent! What a bargain! A price like that makes the shoes even better! 🥳
70 dollers now
🤣 What a deal! 🤑
@@its_Matt_B_ I'm looking for new sheos as my 1080v10 and done so was thinking maybe these 38 would be a good replacement 🤷
@@tomallen3946 yes, I think the 38s would be a good replacement for your 1080s. The Pegs ride is a little stiffer, but it’s still very comfortable.
Surprised you don't trip on yourself, you barely lift your feet when you run
Haha! Yes! I never noticed this until I started taking video. Obviously it's not as bad when I'm running fast, but my easy runs (which I do most of the time) are def. more of a low shuffle!
