Tears in Heaven is an emotional song. Eric Clapton wrote this song for his baby boy that died on young age because of a fatal accident.
When you know that story you feel the pain and the emotion of this song.

He and his sons mother were about to live under one roof and he was ready to be a responsible father. They came upstairs to the appartment. The nanny and the janitor were up there with Connor. Somehow a window was left open and his son fell to his death. Needless to add it affected Eric very very deeply. This is the cathartic memorium to him.

God bless you, James..... I'm so sorry about your uncle's death and how it has affected your life and I'm sorry that violence has even played a part in your life. This song makes me cry every time I listen to it. When Eric starts with, "Would you know my name...", I lose it. I lost my son back in the 70's and tears still flow today. If you want to cry or feel that you should, then do it. Release it..... We are here to walk with you as you go on your journey. Take care and be well. Peace.

Eric Claption has been in several legendary rock bands over the decades, as well as had success as a solo artist. I highly recommend his songs "Sunshine of Your Love" (1967 ... Eric sang lead on this song when he was in the band Cream), "Layla" (1970 ... He sang lead on this song when he was the front man for Derek and the Dominos. This original version is a rock song. He recorded a slower acoustic version under his solo name in 1992), "I Shot the Sherriff" (1970 ... under his solo name) and "Change the World" (1996 ... under his solo name). That's an amazing 30-year spread of hit songs right there! :-)

The love of my life and I were riding in the car to the beach. This song came on and he started singing it to me and I started crying. By this time my parents had both passed away. I told him the story of this song and we both had tears in our eyes because he knew the song because his father used to sing it to his mother too.

I was at home when my brother called me to the hospital. My mother had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and the end was soon to come. When I started my car, the radio was playing "Tears In Heaven" by EC. I almost lost it then. Nearly 23 years later I think of my mother every time I hear this song, written in memory of the tragic loss of Eric Clapton's son. I even choke up when I mention it's name. A great example of how cathartic music is and how it can comfort you in the most difficult of times.

This song won a Grammy Award for Song of The Year when it was released in 1992 …..Much appreciation for this reaction . It is very clear that this was not easy …..when Eric Clapton wrote this for his son I wonder if he knew how many people's lives his song for Conner would honestly touch.
For me I have not lost a lot of people in my life to death but the ones that are gone were most of the closest …..Dad , Mom, Grandma Alice , and Grandma Hazel . I am grateful for the few close friends I have , my Aunt Rosie , and my four siblings .

So sorry for what you went through. Eric had a similar loss when his son died at four years old. Early in his career Eric Clapton had some heavy issues with drug addiction (from which he recovered), hence 'I don't belong here in Heaven'. His son was so young, 'would you know my name'? Great songs are heartfelt. This is a great song.
Interesting factoid: Phil Collins played his own song about his friend Eric's loss 'Since I Lost You' to get his approval before Genesis put it on their album 'We Can't Dance'. Eric approved and then sang 'Tears' for Phil and asked if it should be a single. Collins said it was beautiful but wouldn't make a single. 'Shows what I know' Phil quipped.

Tears are not weakness my friend.
Greater men don't have the strength to talk, and shed a tear about the most painful moments in their lives.
you just did it in front of the whole world, that is bravery and courage that most people will never know in their whole lives.
and as for the loss of your uncle, just remember that every day you live and each breath you take, you honour him, and give a beautiful fuck you to his killer, telling him "you can't break me, because i'm still here, and as long as i am, you will never win."
you have great strength my friend, don't let any body tell you different.

Thanks for sharing such a beautiful video with everyone. You lost your uncle, eric lost is son at 4 years old. Mirrors of tragedy but the song carries the same meaning. The song fit you as beautifully as it fits him, and i'm happy to have stumbled into you sharing it.

This song is incredibly difficult to get through. I have a little 5 year old boy and to think that Clapton lost his 4 year old so tragically and wrote this song for him, it just shatters one's heart.

Family comes in all forms. Some people don't know how to deal with feelings let alone others. Find comfort from people who are emphatic. Love your realness!

I don't even know how Eric had the strength to sing about the tragic death of his son. Incredibly emotional song. I can never get this song without tearing up.

This song was born of pure grief and unimaginable loss (death of his young son). It is a true testament to the man that he was able to channel that into such an amazing song, I sincerely hope it gave some solace.
I honestly believe looking for beauty, and not dwelling on the ugly is the way forward.
Stay strong, stay say, and thank you for reminding me of the good things in life. Music, art friends and family.

Another beautiful song about Clapton's child, written by longtime friend Phil Collins, is Genesis - "Since I Lost You". I'll request that.

    "and hopefully not choke up"
Dude I get weepy just seeing the song title. I've been where you are though, and I'm genuinely glad to know you're in a better place ✌️
A lot of these I'd only ever heard the song but not seen video, and this is one I wish they'd have just shown Clapton playing, movie clips get too distracting.

I am truly sorry for what you went through as a child. I feel your pain. I had this song come in my dreams the day before my middle brother passed away. The next day I found out he had a heart attack and passed. We were very close. I also found out at the same time my eldest brother also passed a few months before that from the same thing but nobody told me. So I lost my only 2 siblings the same day. This was about 6 mos ago. I hadn't even thought about this song in decades. Kinda strange how things go. I listen to this song everyday and still see his face. I am the last one alive in my family. There is a reason for tears. Use them it is healing. I have family, his children my kids and grandkids but nobody but my husband to talk to about it. It is hard but he brought me so much joy so I must be strong. I'm in my mid 60's and we all were about 2 yrs apart. I'll never let go of his memory and I hope you know your uncle is watching over you. 🙏✌️❤️

After clapton s son died, he didn't tour for a while. When he wrote this song about his little boy, he eventually toured, and we saw that tour. It was very emotional when he sang ,but you could hear it helped him in his healing. I cried that tour. Mrs ward here. Very sorry for your loss of your uncle.

My Heart breaks every time I hear this song knowing who he wrote it for. And dude I recognise that it brings you pain from your own loss. I have always thought that this song connects us to those we have loved and lost. And that people you have lost speak to you through this song. Young man I am just as heartbroken for you. The way to get past /deal with the pain of losing someone is to talk about it. I am absolutely offering an ear Xx

James. When you spoke about how you felt like you had no-one to turn to I felt like you were speaking my own feelings. There are many of us who understand loss and pain. What you said allowed me to release a little bit of my own sorrow because you understood. God Bless you, James. You're a good man.

If you knew the history of the song was for his son Conor, who was 4 years old and fell from the balcony you'd be in tears already. I played this song to my sixth and seventh graders, and when I told the kids his son would be their age, there were a lot of tears shed that day from boys and girls alike.
