    Hi Lizzy what a great little project going to try this BUT could I put the lining on the outside leave a gap and turn inside out would that work as well

    • @LizzyCurtis
      @LizzyCurtis  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      BraveHeart yes it would work. My way means it’s fully reversible because both sides are top stitched. It gives a clean edge to it. But you could use a ladder stitch to close the gap, which would be almost invisible so making it reversible x

    What type of table is the one you just removed from the sewing machine?

    • @LizzyCurtis
      @LizzyCurtis  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jean Phillips it’s an extension table ... some machines have them as part of the machine, others you might have to buy one. If you search eBay for sewing machine extension tables there’s someone on there who makes them to order, UK.

    You said I could make two of these in an hour 🤣🤣 it takes me an hour to draw the pattern and cut them out! If only I could have the fabric pieces all cut to size, perfectly, I would be a really happy person. It’s a good job I’m not a hairdresser, everyone would finish up bald by the time I had finished 'straightening' up! Perhaps a video showing us an easy way to measure and cut properly? Soon, please!

    Hi Lizzy. Just made one of these tonight. Everything was going well until the topstitching at the end. I used denim from old jeans on one side, quilting cotton on the other and some sew-in fleece. When I stitched around the top, the bobbin thread went all loosey goosey and looks horrible. Why does the tension suddenly change like that? Help!

    • @LizzyCurtis
      @LizzyCurtis  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would imagine it’s the thickness of the denim, your machine may have struggled. You might have an adjustment facility on the foot pressure, that would help. Or hand stitch this one closed, but top stitch just over the 1/4” seam allowance so only 2 layers are stitched.

    I will be coming across very dumb but I generally are not a sewer. I have drawn out the pattern but now I can't figure out the measurement across on the fold.

    • @LizzyCurtis
      @LizzyCurtis  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well the whole width is 8.5”, and the cut away pieces at the bottom is 2.25”, so double that you get 4.5, leaving the fold edge to edge of 4”.... if you start with drawing the top line you’ll be fine x

    Make sure not to use directional fabric if you cut on the fold or one side will be upside down 😀

  • @Ronibearable
    @Ronibearable 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    1/2 inch seams are so much easier. Also, on the top, leave 1/2 space without the batting(wadding) and then fold down the fabric over the wadding and iron down FIRST, also, fold and iron the lining first, THEN put them together and match seams. It's so much easier to then fold and top stitch, and no bulk in the seam.
