Note: After living in Thailand for 19 years I have learned to always carry a pack of “Handiwipes” in my “man-bag” which can be used instead of those useless tissue table napkins and for wiping my hands when needed. In general, the restrooms are better maintained in Thailand since there is a specific full time “maid” assigned to cleaning the restrooms ( shopping malls & bus stations for example). I remember the first time a lady cleaner was mopping the floor as I was at the men’s urinal - quite a shock! And let’s not forget the PTT petrol plazas along the highways throughout Thailand that provide modern, clean, spacious restrooms.
Spot on about ordering / eating food in a Thai restaurant. Everyone’s order will not arrive all at once. But the Thai “way” is to share your food; thus, there isn’t an emphasis on cooking the dishes all at once. Eating out at a local “ma & pa” restaurant or buying prepared food from a vendor is less of a bother and cheaper than cooking your own dinner at home so yes, having an oven ( which also heats up the room) isn’t essential in Thai kitchens. And since preparing Thai cuisine can consist of frying and creating a mess, most of the cooking will be done outside the house so the odors do not linger inside.

I know that there are many things easier to arrange in person in Thailand so I’d like to plan a recce. What’s the best way or places to meet expats for advice?

Most Americans think only about the adjustment to actually driving on the left. Crossing the street is perhaps a greater adjustment in a Thai city. We instinctually look to the left and step off the curb if it looks clear in that direction only to be in grave danger of a car coming from the right with you now right in front of it. In Thailand, look to the right first when crossing the street.

Hi Tony - love the channel. How is the smoky season this year? And, I know that one year I saw where you left Chiangmai for a bit during smoky season, is that something you do every year, or do you stick it out? Thanks so much!

Thing about national park entrance fee is. If you have work permit then you can get in with Thai rate instead of foreigner rate.

Can we dive into condo rentals a little more. There is so much more information about condo rentals that no one is talking about.
You can rent a condo anywhere from a month to more long term. What we don’t talk about are utilities! Yes we hear of government rate versus non government rate. What no one tells you is if you rent a condo for a month, a lot of times you will still get charged for water and electric separate from your rental agreement! And if your condo is not on a government rate you will have a very high electric bill. Now let’s take this one step farther. I just found out if you rent a condo through an agency they can also tack on their own “charge” to your electric and water. There are so many videos of how cheap it is to live, but no one is talking about the price of electric, and how it can cost almost 1/2 of your rent if you are not careful.
I say these things to educate people. Do your homework and if the cost of a condo for 3 weeks looks like it is going to be more expensive rent a hotel room. Let alone if you have signed a year contract be sure to ask to see the bill for the summer months.

I heard Thais pay income taxes for the country that is why they pay cheaper entrance fees while foreigners pay higher.

One thing that I noticed that was different in Thailand than in the United States was when you’re given a menu, the waitress stands there waiting for your order before you’ve had the chance to browse the menu. I had to tell them repeatedly to comeback in a few minutes.

When people get home from Thailand their first google search is always “butt sprayer” hahaha you will never be cleaner. Also to add to your pothole point, they kinda go by the attitude of “watch where you walk” which was lost here as soon as the first lawsuit for too hot coffee was successful

Is it difficult to find clothes size 40x30 pants 3xx T-shirt for men and Size 20 pants 2xx T-shirt for women? I know we are kind of Fat (very Fat in Thailand). We plan to move there this coming June.

I normally wear a large in the US and I wear a 3xl here, it’s the biggest I see. Decathlon tends to have bigger sizes as well as some of the stores in the malls.

Non-Thai citizens are not allowed to own land outright and that also means owning the house that sits on the land. You can own a condominium since you don’t own the land. There are creative ways to almost own land such as lifetime leases.

'When it comes to inadvertently offending other cultures, Americans usually take first prize....most Americans don't have a passport and believe the rest of the world thinks like them and wants to be like them'.....hear hear...great quote - Allan Pease. Why are many/most Americans so loud (not this presenter thought)??? It does not fit at all well with Thai culture - quieten down....as for dual pricing the difference is not very low to very high....maybe $2-$3 difference - big deal,. Thais earn a pittance even compared with US minimum wage and tipping is not the norm here as in the US....as a farang I fully support the system. Thanks for the video.

You talked about the bathrooms however you missed the most funny part. Women janitors or bathroom cleaning ladies prowling inside the men's toilets mopping and cleaning urinals and toilet bowls. Replenishing supplies. Sometimes they walk up behind your back as you are doing your thing in the urinals. I actually experienced it.

Carry a small packet of wet wipes for your butt. Just shake your hands after washing and they will be dry two minutes later. I use the bum gun -- you don't that wet and again you dry pretty quickly.
