Hi Paul! After spending a whole month in Thailand last November, I've noticed that I've become a person that I like more. I'm a more patient, more trusting, and more tolerant person. I was not like this before leaving for Thailand. Living in the States, you're always on the defensive due to tension caused by increasing crime, racism, fear of terrorism, religious intolerance, Karen-ism, divisive political party affiliations, abortion issues, feminism, mass shootings, illegal immigration issues, issues with sexual orientation, the disparity between the wealthy and poor...etc. The list goes on and on! Our news channels are highly biased, depending on which channel you watch, CNN or FOX NEWS! Speaking of mass shootings, last May during Memorial Day weekend, I was involved in a mass shooter scare at my local mall in Southern California! I was at a retail store inside the mall when I noticed everyone running in a panic out the mall exit. I was told by an employee that there was a report of a shooter inside the mall and we all had to hide in the back storeroom. While hiding and in fear for my life, I solidified my plan of moving to Thailand in a few years! Later, it turned out to be a false alarm but this was the NEW NORMAL in the US. Our divisive government will never pass any sensible gun laws to prevent gun violence in the US, and these incidents will just get worse with time. I know there was a shooter at Siam Paragon recently but an incident like this is rare in Thailand, whereas, shootings in the US are common occurrences. I am now desensitized to mass shootings in the US because they have become so common. Anyway, I agree with you 1000% and I am looking forward to my return in October 2024!
Thats why people like andrew tate is popular over there. Sadly they need him lol/
100%. Well said.
You are absolutely speaking my language
I am now visiting family in the US for the holidays and the stress is nuts
The news, fear, war, anger, conspiracy, crime , politics .. I’m over it!
Get me back to Thailand please haha
Hey Paul, if you and your girl friend ever want to visit Koh Lanta one day I would like to invite you to come stay with us at "the Anchor" on our courtesy as many days as you want. We are pets friendly except in bed room. This is not for commercial purpose, just for a gesture of friendship. Search for our name on google maps.
Pity the local Thai people though. With more and more foreigners who came in with a lot more money, they are being phased out of the housing market. 😔
I'm from NYC I was in Thailand December 2023 and visited Bangkok then places in the north and south. My mental health was so much better whilst I was in Thailand. My favorite place was chiang Mai. The food is amazing. I was able to eat fruits every single day etc.
Alot of that may be to also eating healthier foods. We don't realize it, but eating healthier really does make a difference mentally.
the same I from morocco and for me thailand the best place in asia and we can say in the world
I understand what you are saying about Thai women. I have been with a Thai woman for 5 years, we were married last year and have been married for 15 months. My wife, Mena, does take excellent care of me and I her. We built a house together in Eastern Thailand but we travel to beautiful beach town locations. Beach towns such as in Phuket, Koh Samui, Hua Hin, and Boracay a few hours away in the Philippines. Because we own our home and paid for it 100%, we only pay electricity, and water. So, we can save enough money to travel. I am a 100% disabled US Air Force Veteran, who retired from a long management history in healthcare. My wife is a University graduate who taught school before Covid shut her school down. She comes from a long line of farmers and her family’s farm and home is near to us. I love Thailand.
Moreover, I feel safety is important and I never felt that safe in the USA. You realize I am sure, the political climate in the USA has begun to separate people in so many ways and seems to have intensified in recent years. I always feel safe in Thailand. I find the healthcare in Thailand is second to none. Being a Buddhist myself, I find Thais kind, respectful, happy, and very giving.
5:15 The dad playing with his adorable toddler in your background….soooo sweet!❤👼💕
Broke down and cried with longing to be there when you were talking about how peaceful it is socially. That was beautiful how you opened up and told us what we already know and experience but might not be able to articulate. I have subscribed!
I’m moving to Thailand next year as well for me the usa it’s too much unrest.Everyone is always arguing with one another and it’s so hard to build and establish real friendships and relationships in usa 🇺🇸.Like most people don’t even acknowledge each other at all there’s little to no respect anymore but I don’t hate the country I’m born and raised up in it’s just that for me Thailand will be a more suitable option I’m looking forward to Thailand 🇹🇭 😅.
The Divided States was founded entirely by the kind of people that vote with their feet, looking for a better life, and so it will end.
Yes, I know that has to be my next move!!
Who has been in power in North America the last 4- 5 years ? All you need to know about tension, divisiveness , anti white racism even in government, it’s no wonder ppl are leaving chaos . %100 agree with Paul . Canada unfortunately is in the same boat as the US now .
How are you working out the Visa part to be able to stay long term?
If you are talking about US politics then you haven’t seen Thai politics
Thank you, Paul
That's the exact reasons I will be moving to Thailand next year. 🙏🇹🇭
thailand is my end goal. I'm working on making money online as a fitness trainer and when i reach my training goals i will move to thailand and live the life i ever dreamed of! I've traveled to thailand 3 times now and i love it every time and i feel more at home there than here in california...
Keep focus and stay disciplined, EVERYDAY! you will get there! I did and now jump forth and back between Vietnam and Thailand. With an online income, i can work wherever theres internet. And i live very comfortably with 3000-5000$/month
How do you plan on dealing with the visa requirements?
Wow!!! You speak very highly of Thailand. I do agree with the fact (pretty sure it's provable) that it is safer than the US overall. The food is also tasty without cutting your life short by a decade if you eat authentic Thai and avoid constantly eating coconut oil, stir-fries, and obvious chunks animal fat. Surprisingly, for a small country slightly smaller than Texas and France, Thailand's geography is more than adequately diverse. There's mountains up north, central plains and swamp land, plateau flatlands and mountains to the northeast, and prestine beaches 'til your hearts content to the south. Cultural differences are also very distinct between regions if you have keen eyes and ears. It is reflected in language tonations and speed of speech, different wordings, beliefs and behaviors, and foods. Probably one of the best part of Thailand is its central location in S.E. Asia. Traveling to surrounding S.E. Asian countries, and even China is cheap and easy (plane and soon bullet train). Honestly, when I was doing my college degree in Texas, I didn't expect Thailand (or S.E. Asia) to come this far in development. However, when my Vietnamese friend asked me whether I was going to take up a job in Texas after I finished my degree through an internship program like he did, I said no because I thought I'd be happier living long-term back home. I don't regret it, although I must admit alot of differences require quite a bit of adjustment, which sometimes is not too comfortable (especially if you've gotten use to the ways in the West already). Anyway, Thailand and I believe most of S.E. Asia is the gem of Asia in terms of value living and I have absolutely no regrets about my life here. So I totally understand where you're coming from. Keep the vids coming and glad you're enjoying life in Bangkok too 😁😁.
Some Farangs have developed a bad attitude about the Thai women they meet in the tourist areas.
They to seem to extrapolate onto all Thai women their negativity they have about freelancers and for-profit girlfriends
The above is a very distorted perspective as most Thai- Buddhists women are loving and caring to their man.
That’s not always easy to find in the USA.
The best of you is a good temper, Paul. Thank you from a Thai heart for this reflection VDO. I'm happy to support if you need help in Thailand as far as I can.
I've noticed also that you've tried to learn Thai, which is something many expats don't even bother to do. Kudos to you.
I’m definitely moving to Thailand as soon as I can. I’m 44 in January and note that I can move there with a retirement Visa when I get to 50, so I’m just planning the next six years to wind everything down and retire
you ain't got 6 years in the US , SHTF next year get out now
I hope you won't take this personally/ the wrong way but when I read comments, as I so often do under videos like this, of people confidently stating what they'll be doing in 4, 6, 8 or sometimes even 10 years time or more, I tend to roll my eyes.
Because I speak as someone's who at 51 has attended the funerals of 4 very close friends in the past 6 years, all of whom but one was in their 40's at the time.
Yes you could argue that they were, statistically speaking, very unlucky as am I as these people were truly close to me in daily life, not some random Facebook friends.
2 were to cancer ( both dead from diagnosis within 20 months as in both cases it was stage 4 when symptoms appeared) one from a massive grand mal seizure ( he was super fit, didn't drink or smoke) and one from a heart attack ( he wasn't, but regardless 48 is young)
Anyway the point of my depressing tale of woe here is actually not to be depressing at all but just to remind you ( as it definitely did me as I retired last year ) that life is now. Nothing is a given beyond today.
Even if you are still - hopefully - perfectly healthy in the year 2030 when you plan to make this move maybe your personal or financial position will be completely different. Maybe your then partner won't want to leave, maybe you'll have an elderly parent that's now very ill so it's not quite the right time.
There's so many unknowns.
I understand of course that planning is necessary, as is having sufficient savings, but there's a fine line between practicality and procrastination even if people don't admit it to themselves.
Many, actually most let's be honest here, of the people that state their grand plan to quit their home and up sticks to SE Asia will never actually end up doing it. It's just a nice dream.
@@willsmith39 Thanks for reminding. It's so true we never know what will happen. I have 4 more months toward retirement. Praying every day 🙏
@@DreamofThailand19000 Cool mate - good luck to you and enjoy your retirement! 👍
@@willsmith39 Wow that was needlessly negative.
Your videos are getting better and better. Keep up the great work Paul. Damn, I miss the food in Thailand. 😢
Thank you!
I just got my passport recently and planning to visit bangkok in February. I'm excited to visit outside the united states for the first time. Eventaully I want to move somewhere in Asia coming from someone who was born and raised in the United States.
Love your positive energy and attitude, Paul 😊
I'm Thais living in NY and I can confirmed that you are 100% right 👍. Our culture is the most peaceful. Enjoy our wonderful country
You don't want all the western expats turning Thailand into western arrogance. Step back and think about it
It's everywhere in South East Asia the same, if they believe in Buddhism. Everywhere has really nice helpful people's.
I wish i could find remote work. I would legit be down to do almost anything so I could leave california. Ive wanted to move to Thailand for years now. Just turned 30 and I dont want my life to be wasted any more. Living here is crushing
you can teach english in Thailand and the pay is fine to put down your roots and then you can start any business, remote teaching students who want to learn english can be done as well...good luck
@@lavista4u he would need to have at least a Bachelors to teach English
@@jamestucker4800 No , you don't have to have a bachelor degree to teach English. Some language schools will hire you as long as you are a native speaker.
@@tirakarn Yeah, if you're happy being paid SIGNIFICANTLY less by poorer quality schools.
i don't know why or how, but your video is so wholesome bro! You're gonna blow up for sure if you keep it up tbh
Im new to your Channel I found you from watching the interview with Forrest Lee good interview by the way.
Your pretty much spot on about the states, sad what its become.
I like what your saying about the culture in Thailand good vibs, ive never been but plan to visit.
Much enjoyed the video.
I'm moving back to Cambodia for pretty much all the same reasons. I like your insights on the culture. I never saw anything in a Buddhist text about destroying non-believers or any saved vs unsaved kind of thing. It's like we're all in the same boat, so let's make the ride easier for all of us. The friendliness and lack of toxicity and political and social angst makes SE Asia so much nicer to live in than the west. I'm glad you're having a good life in Thailand!
Thailand certainly has political angst…
@@Ned88Man as does Myanmar. Every religion can be twisted, but ya as someone that isn't religious at all, Buddhism seems the easiest to get on board with.
The narrative you just espoused has nothing to do with reality. Buddhists definitely have a saved vs unsaved distinction, and in that paradigm, the vast majority of souls will never be able to escape the cycle of suffering, only the very few enlightened Buddhas are able to escape out of the cycle and enter into nirvana. Also, the only religion that says to destroy unbelievers is Islam, which is not a mainstream religion in the US; to make that assertion against Christianity is plainly false and amounts to slander.
Also, there are a lot of mean and dangerous people in SE Asia as well, and there is plenty of political angst, and even social angst with different ethnic groups fighting literal wars against one another. I get you're trying to paint a rosy picture for your potential future, but be realistic.
yes, this 100%@@dr.j5642
@@dr.j5642 When I say saved vs unsaved, I mean the Christian notion of either you're saved or you burn in hell. Continuing the cycle isn't quite the same thing. There are plenty of passages in the Bible about destroying unbelievers, especially in Deuteronomy.
The political angst I refer to is people constantly bickering over politics which doesn't happen because it's not really allowed. While it's an unfortunate situation, it still results in a less toxic political culture in public Khmer society than exists in America. As a foreigner, I know I have the privilege of being shielded from the bulk of political situations in Cambodia, however, the distinction remains.
Hello ❤ Thanks for sharing! Happy new year!
Love the food...really really do. I see myself living in Bangkok ASAP. You present culture, food, people, and amenities in such a clear and simple way. Love this channel.
Thank you’
What about all then lady boys in Thailand? Especially all those lady boys in Bangkok ?
@iPaulLee
Paul how about English? Can I speak English or do I need to know Tai. Can I use Google translate ?
I've seen a few expat YTers, and yours is a story I relate to and wish to emulate. Keep posting!
Thank you! Will do!
wonderful we will be there again at the end of January I am so excited
Good video thank you for being upfront and give your honest simple opinion.
Paul, great job! Very helpful information!
People are the common denominator. I have lived in Thailand and the people are Busy living their lives. As they should be. If you are kind and Polite it is almost certain you will never have any trouble. And if you do. It will probably be another person from the west being a jerk. Very safe.
Love this great work!! Inspiring I’m a have to re do mine now properly - why I left the UK!!
I fully agree with all points in your video. Personally, I think that you should also mention that learning a bit of Thai is a must in order not to live in a parallel world. Even as a swiss citizen, I feel much safer in Bangkok than in Zurich. Of course, besides the traffic and the pollution.
Greetings from Bang Rak.
I can definitely confirm every point and I have been living in Sukhumvit Area Phra Khanong for 5 years. I love this city and these people. The serenity of the people rubs off on me and there is always a temple to meditate nearby. I originally come from Hamburg in Germany.
Welches Visum hast du um dort 5 Jahre zu leben....ich möchte ungern Heiraten und Rentner bin ich auch noch nicht ...😂

Your video quality getting better by the week!
Thanks for noticing my efforts!
Hi Paul great video thankyou. I live in Melbourhe with my Thai wife and 7 yo son. Im retired and want to get away from these angry people here. Road rage etc is out of control. You made so much sense when you said how relaxed you are now. I totally understand. Cheers mate Brendon
I’m watching this from San Francisco Paul…..and my husband and I enjoy your channel! Your views of Thailand and its culture is very positive! Love your feedback on rent & food. We plan on moving to Thailand sometime next year and gosh, we wish we were your age😊 Thanks for posting this video 🙏🏼
Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm in SF and agree
Thumbs up 👍 Paul and a Happy New Year 🎊🎆🎈
Dude I love your videos, so inspiring bro 😎
Thanks bro 👍🏼
Your video is on point 100%. We are two mid 50s couple who have been slow travelling SE Asia since Covid and LOVE Bangkok. I am in Koh Samui right now and will be back in Bangkok end of Jan. We want to move temp for a year to Bangkok.
This guy Paul is blessed 👊🏾💯
Hey Paul, so inspiring watching your videos. Takes a lot of courage to pack up your stuff and leave the states to live overseas. One question. When you left USA and moved to Thailand, where did you stay before you found the condo that you wanted to live in? I’ve been seriously considering about moving to bkk ever since I’ve been binge watching your videos on yt. Thanks! 🎉
Me and most other expats here just rented on Airbnb in a few different places until eventually settling on a favorite neighborhood/condo
Congrats Paul . U have found a great peaceful balance in a Easy Going country. Moreso with a balanced supportive partner. Keep it up and enjoy peacefully. All the best .
Thank you for sharing. My brother moved to Thailand and married a beautiful Thai girl and they are happy. She doesn’t work, cook, clean, or doing anything around the house. The most important is they are happy.
Agreed!
She doesn’t do anything around the house? Your brother had a lazy wife unless you mean she doesn’t work but she does cook clean or do anything around the house
As a Thai, I am mostly sure that the majority of Thai women like to do somethings around the house unless she is really very lazy by nature or her man is rich.
Living in Thailand, It is super cheap for foreigners. Especially those from the 1st world country. As A Thai, I currently, live on less than $600 per month in Bangkok.
$600 sick. How much do u pay for rent? I guess if you have 6k baht rent, 2k baht for utilities/internet , 7k baht for food, you still have 5k baht left for transportation etc.
How is that possible???😮
@@BigJack273 Well, more than half of Thai citizens doing it. So...what do you think!
Really, what's your secret to living on $600 per month?
Paul Lee, saying so true 😀🇺🇸🇰🇷🇹🇭🇮🇩. Thanks for

Love this comparison video brotha! I’m from Southern California and everything you said was 100% accurate! You know I would love to see a comparison from Thailand and the Philipines from your experience. Not sure if you ever been to Philipines or if you’d ever go visit there but that would be an awesome video!
From what I heard and see, Philippines and Thailand are equally beautiful but Thailand is more peaceful with way less crimes. The advantage of Philippines are their friendly people and most speak English.
Enjoy watching, great video!
This is awesome to see man. Great vid. Are you a tech bro too lol?
Finally I'm in Bangkok. I arrived yesterday... Thanks to your videos it helped me a lot... I'm korean american too... Hope to see you in person... cheers
Air quality in Bangkok has been so brutal lately. I admire anyone that is willing to breathe that in for the rest of their life. I do love Thailand as well but could never live in Bangkok long term.
I like Pattaya and Hua Hin
Just returned from Thailand last week. The terrible air quality is the elephant in the living room. It sucked Loved Thailand. Clean air is not there.
@@robertprice836 go near water in Pattaya, Hua Hin.
lol. How true. Yes, Thailand is roughly 50% cheaper but he didn't say anything about wages. First, you can't work except for remote work and there is the timezone differences. I guess, if you are financially secured or have an online business then it's not a problem. Also, the food is cheaper because the quality is lower. Who wants to eat hot noodle soup in a plastic bowl? The leached chemicals can't be good for you. The cheapest ingredients are used like vegetable/seed oils.
I love your videos. I’m thinking of retiring in Thailand. I fell in love with Bangkok on my visit.
I moved to work remotely out of Colombia and I felt the same way! Subscribed just because of how well you expressed everything my man. This makes me want to visit Thailand so bad!
Thanks for sharing. Good to know info. New sub. I've been in the Philippines very long time, considering a move to Thailand.

Great information. And you are so right about the divisiveness here in America.

I really enjoyed your video and agree with everything you said when comparing "the West" - I'm from the UK and looking forward to living overseas in a calmer, warmer, cleaner, more affordable environment one day myself.

Your travel vlogs evoke a sense of nostalgia for places I've never been.
Thank you man! Means a lot
This is my first visit to this channel.
I really like the straightforward presentation.
I have been visiting Bangkok since before and after the pandemic.
18 months ago I met my Thai-Buddhist lady and for the first time in my adult life,
I feel really happy and at peace with myself and the world.
Buddhism philosophy has allowed me to be a better version of myself.
That’s not always the case with American Farang women.
It seems like in the USA, sex is part of American women’s reward-punishment syndrome.
I love Thailand and Thai people.
One thing I have learned about Thai women in general: if you take care of them, your Thai lady will take care of you.
I plan to retire this coming year in Bangkok and we are looking for a condo on Sukhumvit between terminal 21 and Soi 7.
We really like that type of condo which you and your lady share.
I was curious if any of the high rise condos include a health club and other amenities.
I plan to watch more of your videos in the future.
Thank you for the positive perspective of thailand 🙏🏽🇹🇭
Living in NY near the city right now, I'm in college at the moment and I've been thinking about where to go when I finish in 2 years(hopefully), and then your videos showed up and I think my mind is made up. Definitely gonna visit sometime and if it's as good as it seems it might be permanent
You speak Thai very well And I totally agree with all you said about Thai.
I'm right there behind you brother.
So nice❤l love thailand...a beautiful country with the best people
Can totally agree. Had the same feeling. Me and the misses sold our house, left our jobs and moved to Asia. Just traveling for now but first 2 months were in Thailand. Life is so much better out here. It completely changed me. I was always agitated and cranky back in Western Europe. My eyes opened. We weren't sure if we would stay long term. But after 2 months we made the descision to start working online and generate income and just stay here.
Paul, I love your views on things and your demeanour, like you, I also used to live in the US but now living in Asia and loving it.
Wow looks so Beautiful!! I’ve been thinking hard about moving out of California and moving to Southeast Asia! One day I will!

Hi Paul, im from the UK. Back in Feb 2022, i visited Thailand for the first time and it changed my life .
I'm retired and living full time with my Thai girlfriend.
As i said I'm from the UK and its very expensive to live there everything is going through the roof.
While in Thailand its very cheap to live.I planned everything before coming over and sticking to my plan so i can enjoy my life over here.
Thailand is a full package apart from the weather 😊😅😂😂😂😮😮⁹
Ah I miss having a pug dog. Agree with you about the motorbike point on being pretty dangerous, I've personally seen a lot of motorbike accidents here in bkk and I never use them anymore, not worth it
You should do a video on how you two met, maybe expand on the expectations and the do’s and dont’s of dating in Thailand
I've lived in three American states, and having been to three areas in Thailand, including Bangkok, I agree 100% with everything you said. ESPECIALLY about the food and the women, both of which are the best in the world. ❤
Many of us who live in the west (Canada & USA) we dream of moving abroad, away from all the BS, high cost of living, crime, mass shooting etc
I've been to Thailand for the first time lately, I agree with everything you said about Thai culture and women. I'm from Australia and we are not as bad as the U.S but we are heading that Way in some aspects.
Nothing bad in the US except poor sections of cities and towns
@Tony-lm5zs you prob don't travel enough in the states then from what you're saying
Great video! I’m hoping to make a visit out there this year to visit and see if it’s a place for me. I very much like the idea of a culture that respects each other which we are sadly lacking in the US. I also gravitate towards Buddhist ideals as apposed to western religions. And Thai food is the bomb. Thanks again, your video motivated me even more.
Great stuff and thank you for the upload. I live in NY with my wife who is Thai (her mother was born in Thailand), were visiting Seoul this April but were going to go to Thailand next year. Out of curiosity, was it an easy or difficult process to gain citizenship in Thailand (or are you on visa)? btw you guys have very cute dogs
Just found your channel. Great video! I've been to Bangkok and other places and Thailand and agree with everything in your video. One issue I run into - how do you stay long-term in Thailand with the recent visa run lockdowns since you're less than 50 yo? I want to retire early but I'm not old enough to qualify for their retirement visa, and I don't really want to be working teaching English (unless I can do it for 10 hours a week max).
I had the same question. Which visa does he have?
An English friend of mine used to travel to neighbouring countries like Laos, Cambodia, etc., every six months to get another six-month tourist visa stamped on his way back at the border. He did that for more than ten years.
Welcome to Thailand,I hope you're happy here 😀
Great video Paul. I moved to Cambodia from the US for the same reasons.
Totally agree! You can be a good person and still get in trouble!

95 F in December in Bangkok is a no go for me for not only Bangkok but most of southeast Asia--I like four distinct seasons although by late Winter and late Summer, I can't wait to jump into Spring and Fall. But to each their own. About women... I earn enough in America for my wife to sit home and cook, clean, laundry etc. It is not huge chores. In return, I take care of the often very tiring yard work and earn enough for us to live a comfortable middle-class life. There is less tension in the house now that she stopped working almost two years ago--she was always tired. She is very glad to be a house-wife and, while if she goes back to work it would be fine if she chooses to, it is fine right now as long as this arrangement goes on. When we go out and other women ask and she tells her situation they envy her. A woman and a man in their natural or preferred setting. Nothing wrong with that.
To be more accurate, I’d say for a 1 bedroom condo to rent in BKK will be $800-$1000 a month. Of course a 34sq meter studio condo would be 509 baht. A lot of factors to consider when renting a place. Be sure it’s walking distance to the BTS and the complex doesn’t rent out to short term renters on holiday ( Airbnb) . And my grocery bill is half of what it would be in the States . I worked in Thailand for 15 years, now retired four years in a quiet province city which is a lot cheaper and peaceful than Bangkok.
I agree with everything that you say. I live in La and love the weather with no humidity and hate the rest . I think that’s probably why I couldn’t live in Thailand . Parts of San Diego are safe , friendly, and clean but yes very expensive. Luckily I have rental properties but trust me Thailand is appealing. Enjoy btw It is humid there right ?
Hah yes. It's humid AF. Its like a sauna.
@@Big_E_247 Wow. It says February and November are less humid . Maybe one day I’ll try those months i was going down to playa del Carmen in Mexico every winter , even rented a yearly studio that just sat 8 months of the year but last season it was unbearable and I stopped going . I think it’s getting more humid all over . Anyway I enjoy your videos . Thanks
Living your best life for real 👍
Pretty cool hearing you use Thai when ordering food. Too many guys move there and dont make the effort to learn the language or culture.
Thank you for this great video. Love everything about Thailand but cannot take the heat. I would go there in a heartbeat if it weren't for that. ❤🍀🌹
