Love the 'uncomfortable ' paradox and it needs much more exploration. I see a culture that is promoting avoidance as a coping strategy. Anything that you find distasteful or uncomfortable, avoid it. If you're uncomfortable interacting with someone, just ghost them, break off a relationship by txt. Its very pervasive and, once you see it, you cant unsee it

^ this... It's easier to cancel someone than to face the truth with them.

I don't know about the death one. I'm very aware of death, and I find that it often tends to make me more depressed and frustrated when faced with day-to-day bullshit at work, as I think about how I'm wasting my precious time on these things. I think Steve Jobs comes from a place of privilege. For me, I try to remind myself that I'm putting up with the bullshit at my job to make money to take care of my family, and that part is meaningful...

    Re Paradox of Choice...
I was an exchange student in Germany in 1988. We took a student trip to East Berlin... this was the year before the Berlin Wall was taken down. We went to a grocery store, and they only had ONE kind of shampoo, butter... anything. I remember after the wall came down, my friends in Germany said the people in East Berlin were stressed and unhappy. What? They're free now! Well apparently people were overwhelmed by having to chose from 40 different shampoos. Every part of their life was so much more complicated than before. I didn't know about Paradox of Choice then... I just thought these people didn't have good decision muscles built up.

Paradox of Choice definitely applies to products like Fitness Tracker Watches and tennis shoes. Too many choices. Freedom and Simplicity are complementary.
